I love the fact that everyone so far has commented that they have gaming as a hobby.

Hobbies are different to pastimes.

Gaming is my pastime, but Animation is my hobby.

I don't get much time after work and pastimes to spend on my hobby, unfortunately.

I'd say that gaming used to be a hobby for me but now it's more of a pastime. I play fewer games compared to when I was younger (mainly due to a lack of time and money), but what I play now is usually a high quality game that I care about. When I was younger I would play anything, even the cheapest, weirdest game I could find, which has left me with a bizarre selection of PSN games on my PS3 and 3DS . But now it's just something I do for a couple of hours in the evening or before I go to sleep, but it's still one of the best parts of my day. Unfortunately I find myself reading websites like this or watching YouTube more than I really need to so I'm planning to turn that into more gaming time... hopefully!

As for other interests I really like cooking! I know it's a chore for most but in my house it's an important thing...even if there's only two of us

3D modelling and animation is what I would consider a "hobby". I started ripping models from games on my Grandmother's computer when she fell asleep and it kind of progressed from that to where I am today. I like that I can combine two things which I'm passionate about - art and video games- and make something which is even better than what I can draw, because I spent plenty of my childhood frustrated that I couldn't put what I had in my head onto paper. I don't consider myself "talented" in my artistic skills so I've worked hard to try and let my skills match my ideas.
My life was a complete mess between the ages of ten and twelve (lost a family member, got disowned by most of the rest, other fun things ), but afterwards I promised myself since then that I was going to work on my creative skills because it's what makes me truly happy, so everyday I make a 3D model, sketch or animation, even if it's terrible. I've never shown people what I make, mostly because I don't save a lot of it, but I think working on it one day at a time will surely help me improve, so that's what I dedicate myself to outside of the things I have to do for work/family/friends.

@Anti-Matter I don't think relationships would necessarily take away your gaming time, unless you have an extremely time consuming job or a couple of kids. Who knows, maybe a girlfriend/boyfriend would help you with your Animal Crossing accounts and then you might have more free time?

Yeah, I suppose in my case you could call gaming and reading my pastimes. Programming is more of a hobby (though one I've been neglecting lately). Exercise and cooking.... More like lifestyle changes, maybe? I primarily started paying more attention to them both to try and be healthier.

@Anti-Matter I think you've said that before in other forums. Kudos for being single then. I support and respect all people's preferences.

@Kimyonaakuma First I'm so sorry for what have happened to you in the past. As weird as it sounds I can related to you in one way or the other since I'm adopted and my American birth mum died on the day she gave birth to me in the hospital. As for my birth father I've no idea who he is or where he is right now. Regarding gaming as a pastime now, I can see your point and I kind of agree to it. But for me gaming is a hobby and a passion and a pastime as well. As well as reading. Also, I like cooking too, especially Asian food like chicken noodles. And I've subscribed to the newsletter of Jamie Oliver's website for recipes.

I didn't mention it before, but I'm into gardening somehow. Mostly, just planting bushes and taking care of green grass, nothing too special or complicated but I like seeing the small soil place outside my living room window neat, clean and organized.

I try to hike often. Best and cheapest hobby for broke people like myself.

I recently started birdwatching.

I use to be a heavy runner (I'd do five to ten miles a day...that's years ago, now I'm fat lol, but I do still try to jog here and there).

Always been a fan of martial arts, I've done karate, a bit of wrestling, did a bit of grappling in military, rn I'm doing MMA/boxing to cut some weight. It's so fun though it sucks right now because I'm all schlubby and awkward lol.

I'm trying to get into coding, drones and circuitry...honestly though it's kinda slow process learning.

I also try to write and do historical research. Just here and there. In the future I want to do a history based podcast (maybe).

I read a little, I'm obsessed with these topics: food science/history, genetics, evolutionary science.

I also want to do gardening and hydroponics (no not for that lol) but I live in an apartment so, I'm kinda limited.

Videogames of course, aside from that I like drawing, computer graphics and design in general, in the past I wrote a few things but then I understood that it's not something I really want to do and can't be satisfying for me so I'm not doing it anymore.

@Anti-Matter That's fine, "you do you" and all that It was just because you said you had free time because you were single, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't disappear if you decide to enter a relationship (it probably just shrinks ).

@TheCurator Thanks and I'm sorry you have bad things happen in your past too! It sounds much worse than what I have experienced...
And I have never known who my Father was or where he is so I guess we're similar in some ways. I know it's probably quite a weird thing to say but I'm kind of grateful for my past even if it wasn't always great. I don't think I would be who I am right now if all of it didn't happen and I feel a lot more confident in who I am because of it. A lot of people that I went to school with had issues at home or with their family after me and now they just act miserable and say they are a victim like that excuse will get them through their life. I guess because my problems happened earlier I was able to fully recover without exams or work getting in the way? Who knows, but at least it's over

I'm trying to get back into gaming, I'm still really passionate about it but I don't enjoy a lot of the online communities that comes with it. People are really negative a lot of the time and I don't see why people are so serious and angry about something that's supposed to be fun. I think I just need to avoid those places and just focus on playing more games.

I mainly cook Asian food but I like to make whatever tastes good, it doesn't need to complicated to be enjoyable, which is good because I'm not very skilled!
I forgot to mention that I also write occasionally, I don't do it as much as I used to but I still enjoy it. I have this terrible comedy script that I come back to every couple of weeks, I'm planning on selling it if my life falls apart

@Kimyonaakuma What kind of Asian food broham?

Suggestion: why don't you make a Youtube channel where you cook Asian food + but with comedy? I'd subscribe to that.

Then you can video yourself eating like mukbang. Three genres in one channel. Bam!

That's not everything. Bought another half pound of gold, 8 pounds of silver and 1 ounce of platinum since those photos were taken.

For the longest time, gaming was my one and only hobby. Then about half a year ago I looked at all the video games on my shelf and all the collector editions and all the amiibo and all the statues and all the little knickknacks, and realized I had burned at least $10,000 that I would never get back just due to the value rapidly depreciating, even just by being opened the value of everything I've purchased dropped in half right on the spot.

And I started getting sick to my stomach over how much money I had wasted on this hobby. And don't get me wrong- I really enjoyed playing video games, but I was spending way too much money on them.

So I immediately cut down the number of my pre-orders by half, and sunk a good chunk of money into gold and silver, and have been stacking it ever since. It still gives me that satisfaction of spending money, even though I'm not really "spending" anything. Gold and silver IS money. Everything else is debt, including bank note dollar bills. I would encourage anyone interested in the topic to watch some videos on the history of gold and silver as money and how the current debt-based fiat not-backed-by-anything paper money came into existence in the 1970's.

Banks originated by holding your gold and silver to protect against theft, for a fee. In return they would basically give you a paper IOU. It became more convenient to simply exchange the paper IOUs for purchases, since everyone knew they were as good as gold. Then in 1933 they banned gold for normal citizens, and backed the paper currency by it. Institutions could still exchange their IOU paper money for gold though. Then in the 70's, immediately after changing all the silver coinage to base metals, Nixon abolished the Breton Woods system and, against the Constitution (which mandates US money must only be gold or silver- and for good reason- the Continental army printed the colonies into hyperinflation to finance the Revolutionary War- it's where we got the saying "ain't worth a Continental" from, and the founding fathers knew all too well the dangers of using paper currency rather than gold/silver or currency backed by gold/silver) put us on a paper fiat currency system not backed by anything except "The full faith and credit of the United States government". All other countries in the world are now on a paper fiat currency system. For the first time in world history, every nation on earth is using a fiat paper money currency not backed by gold.

The problem with this is, every single paper fiat currency throughout history has returned to its inherent value of zero, or is currently in the process of approaching that target, via inflation. In theory, paper fiat money can work, the problem is in the real world, governments aren't responsible enough to restrict supply and never print more. And the more they print, the more they devalue the existing dollars. This is called inflation. Gold has worked as a currency for 5,000 years because you can't print more of it- you have to mine it and that requires labor, the cost of which gives the gold its value. That's why banks and government hate it so much. It requires fiscal responsibility. With paper money they can print more in deflationary periods to stimulate the economy. Which in truth does provide a level of flexibility, but it comes at the cost of the devaluing the currency and taxing citizens' wealth, currently at 2-3% a year.

In 1913, $1 was worth $1. In 2018, $1 is now worth just 3 cents of a 1913 dollar. 97% of its value has been eroded through inflation. Even just since the time I was born in the mid-80s, money is worth almost 1/3 of what is was when I was a kid.

Gold and silver are monetary by nature, and over long periods of time, adjust for inflation of paper fiat currency. Because they are now classified as commodity assets in the free market and traded via futures contracts, their prices are volatile and do have swings high and low. So short term they're kind of a crapshoot, as far as investment is concerned. But long term they retain their value against inflation. In the early 1900s, an ounce of gold was worth $35. In the 1990's, that same ounce of gold was worth $350. Today, that same ounce of gold is worth $1,225. When I retire in 40 years, the price will also be much higher. It doesn't correct for inflation very often (usually once every few decades) but when it does, it sees major moves relatively quickly. And that is why I think it's a great hobby to have. Satisfy the urge to spend, indulge in a hobby that I genuinely enjoy, and not actually "spend" any money currency in the process (dollars are not money- they're currency... gold is money)- it's one giant savings account, and one that actually hedges against inflation at that.

Glad for you. You surely will have just as much fun owning gold/silver/platinum as you had playing video games.
Seriously: How is owning gold a hobby?

P.S.: Don't get robbed by the way. Posting stuff like that on the internet probably isn't the safest thing to do.

Not owning gold... stacking gold. Like collecting coins. Only a focus on gold and silver bullion rather than numismatics. Although I do take an interest in pre-33 gold coins and old silver dollars.

And I'm not worried about robbery. It's an anonymous post on the internet about stuff that no one knows the location of or vault its stored- its safely held off site (hence the need for old pics)- people post their entire stacks in the PM reddit community all the time. Anyone thinking they can list waltz in and find a pile of gold with a bow on it waiting for them is remarkably stupid lol

@JaxonH although I agree everything about having gold a better investment would be buying houses

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

@1UP_MARIO
Perhaps, but I don't have that much money to invest. And imo, we're in housing bubble #2 anyways. After it pops though, itll be housing on the super cheap.

Only thing I dont like about housing/property is the neverending taxes. Dont pay the taxes and you find out real quick who really owns that house 😉
