Topic: What's Your Hobbies?

Posts 1 to 20 of 49

Lately, I've been reviewing all of my hobbies. I currently have not time to focus on anything else than kid, work, and the Wii U. I'm a huge e-book reader but I don't seem to have the time to read any books at all! Or even study another passion of mine Mathematics. I've been thinking that maybe I should quit studying Maths for now to focus more on traditional book reading and the Wii U (gaming).

What's your hobbies fellas? And how do you find time to enjoy them?

I know not many people enjoy this, but planespotting. We go up to my local airport every so often.

1. Drawing. Both Hand drawing and using CorelDRAW + Corel Photo Paint. Mostly draw Chibi characters since i LOVE Chibi proportions (So Cute) & i'm working as Drawing teacher for Primary school. But the thing i like to draw Most is... Boxing / Kickboxing. I draw A LOT OF my Fictional Chibi Boxers / Kickboxers. Chibi Six Pack guys are almost in my bedroom, on my handhelds, on my 3DS Cartridge case, on my Calendar, etc.

2. Playing video games. Console, Handhelds & Arcade.Every Sunday (My ritual) i go to Super Mall Surabaya to play Dance Dance Revolution X2 Arcade + Dance Dance Revolution MAX 2 Arcade. After finished playing DDR, I usually visit my local game shop named Game Inn (Check the shop from Instagram) to buy games or just hang out & play my handhelds there.

3. Watching Youtube. Lately, i like to watch America's Next Top Model series from Youtube. I also like to watch Retro games walkthrough or browsing nice musics to listen.

@Anti-Matter I have the same interests as you! Obviously we draw very differently, I don't play dance games or watch America's Next Top Model, but I do enjoy those three topics!

Sometimes I like to think I can draw.

Other times I fool myself into believing I am good at making desserts.

Every now and then I buy a book I probably won't read. And video games I will likely only play for a short while.

Then I will watch YouTube videos about those activities instead of doing them myself.

I am a comic book collector (mostly DC but also Dark Horses' Buffy, IDW' Sonic and all Megaman comics.

Then, of course, I play video games ( Switch, Nes and Snes Mini). I always sell the older systems to buy the new one. Not that I have to but I usually don't play games twice except for Nes games (still have may old NES and it's games)

I am also learning to play the ukulele and take a music lesson every week. I love to play it but don't have too much time to practice but I can play a couple of songs and like to play for my kids.

Yeah and I have a wife and two kids so time is rare for all the hobbies above. Usually I play games after everyone is in bed or sometimes I take the Switch to bed and play there. I also get up early (during work days at 5 am even though I have to leave for work at 7 am but that leaves me one hour to play before kids are up.

And when I have some time left I love to read crime stories and play with my cat.

I don't really have much in the way of hobbies aside from gaming right now. Got 2 kids and a job etc.

I have an ageing dog that needs walking each day, so while he's sniffing around the neighbourhood I'm usually on my phone reading here, or browsing ebay to feed my ever growing backlog. So it's pretty much my dog's fault that I've gotten so into gaming these last few years. That and having a smartphone. Don't know what I'd be doing if I didn't have the dog or the phone, but my game collection would likely be about 300 games smaller, and you could take most of that figure off my ebay feedback score too.

  • Video games, though 99% of that is dedicated to Nintendo systems. I've found I only have time to juggle two main platforms, which are currently my Wii U and 3DS. Technically a third if we count my current Pokemon Shuffle addiction on mobile.
  • Reading. I mostly read sci-fi and fantasy, though occasionally I delve into historical fiction and nonfiction, religious books, and rarely a thriller. I do like manga and comics but just haven't picked up any issues of either in a long while.
  • I'm a career programmer, but I occasionally mess around with code in my spare time. I've kind of neglected this lately since my summer has been so crazy.
  • Exercise, mainly for health reasons.

Oh that's interesting, because like with trains, I don't get the appeal at all. Well, I do think trains and planes are interesting technical achievements and I do like to see different ones at the airport or the train station. I just don't get what makes them so exciting to so many people.
I also do like the atmosphere at (modern, at least) airports for I find it quite surreal. But part of that appeal I think comes from not being there very often.
Maybe you can explain what interests you about planes?

@Yosheel
I can identify with that description.
At least the buy-things-you-don't-use-part and I do watch quite a lot of Youtube stuff (especially gaming things) in the time I could be happily playing games in.

My hobbies:
I like to photograph, but at the moment I hardly use it for anything else but documenting my work place (two graveyards).
I like to craft things, though I often don't like the results. At the moment though (since November 2017) I am very much interested in linoleum printing. This makes it the longest lasting hobby since years.
I like to go to the theatre or in museums, additionally I think flea markets are kind of museums too.
I like playing video games. Surprise. I almost exclusively play on Nintendo consoles since 2012. Since then I am obsessed to an odd degree and don't know myself why that happened. Probably something about nostalgia and childhooddreams and money to make them come true.
I love illustration, though I myself cannot draw very well. I kind of collect childrens' books and graphic novels for I like the format and art style and story telling. I also short films because they are often experimental, creative and therefor usually more interesting than longer films. There is a great festival in Dresden for watching those. This love for creative ideas and design also is one major driving factor why I love video games and especially indies and sometimes end up buying too many games.
I also like going on trips or travelling, but seriously: who doesn't?

Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.

Wow that's some great answers here! You've made all so much excited! I do hope we keep conversing about the subject.

@Tiefseemiez Since you're collecting children books, I suggest to buy the entire collection of the Grufallo board books. I collect them for my 1-year-old son and trust me he loves them. Extremely good quality of pictures and very nice riddle-rhythmic text. Also I do like as well to visit museums, a dream of mine is to visit in the future the Museum of Natural History in Washington and George Washington's museum house in New England.

Gaming obviously

Reading - don't read any fiction at all, mainly biographies, mindset, sales books things like that.

Sports/exercise - I have 2 boys so i try to keep them as active as possible instead of just vegging out in front of a screen like most of their peers.

Cars - I've always been a car nut since I was a kid so I work on my cars a lot, do simple fixes and maintenance for friends on the side. We go to a lot of car shows in my area as well

@TheCurator Aside from gaming? I enjoy reading. I used to prefer physical books, and still kinda do, but they tend to be heavy and space consuming, so for the last few years I've taken to kindle.

Though I hardly have the skills or dedication to do it well, I enjoy building model kits as well. Paticularly Gunpla and Zoids. I've also had to cut back on that because of limited space to display them.

I'm also a pretty big anime nerd. I follow a lot of weekly anime on Crunchyroll, typically "saving" up a weeks worth of anime to spend a Sunday afternoon watching.

@Heavyarms55 Hey, thanks for contributing as well. I'm all into e-books personally. And congrats on your building efforts. I did make puzzles before but I've stopped for years now. Lately, I've been considering to start reading e-manga. I don't know why but I feel I should start the manga thing along my regular e-book reading.

@ogo79 Wow. Strong input. If you ever make it to a gallery please send me a personalized invitation. I love boogie gallery shows.

I was going to say music but most of my work revolves around music in one way or another so I'm not sure I can still consider it a hobby or what.
I collect CDs. Yeah, I know vinyl is the 'hip' thing to have if you collect music, but I don't care and I have no emotional attachment to vinyl. Each year I try to focus on one or two music genres, styles or country of origin. This always turns a bit into an ethnomusicological thing, as I try to research as much as I can about the culture and the environment those records came out of. This year I've been really into Brazilian music and next year I'll explore German krautrock.
I try and go to the theatre as much as I can, as I'm lucky enough to have a theatre in my neighbourhood, which I realise is a luxury. I never watch films and I very rarely go to the cinema though. I never really got the appeal nor the magic of films anyway - cartoons and documentaries I enjoy a lot, but I don't think I watched a full length film in the last decade without secretly wishing I was dead.
I like woodworking a lot, especially painting wood, and most of the wooden furniture in my house I painted it myself. It's very relaxing and it requires absolutely no artistry nor advanced thinking - that's why I find it so enjoyable. I also collect books about birds, especially those with hand drawn illustrations.

My hobby regret is fishing. My grandfather was a fisherman but when I became old enough to be taught he got sick, so I never learnt how to fish. I conceptually love fishing, but I've never really tried. It has been on my "to do" list for ages.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
