That is SO ADORABLE!!! I didn't know Metroids could be that cute! Is there more to the picture? Was wondering what the hatchling was so happy about! Great avatar, full of cuteness and win!
Edit: Never mind, I found the comic. Hatchling just loves it's mommy! Samus is a big meanie!!! If she doesn't want that darling little thing, I'll adopt it!
@Kid_Crono - It's a grown up Metroid in basic form, from Super Metroid judging by the sprite itself. ;]
@BetelgeuseWC77 - Well, yeah, Samus apparently had some higher feelings for that little thing, which is shown well in Metroid: Other M (and no, I am not going to bash that game, it does not deserve it). Also - the grown-up Hatchling saved her life at the end of Super Metroid, sacrificing it's own life, so it's quite amazing how a human (well, Samus is mostly human) can bond with a levitating, energy-sucking medusa from space. And because I love the entire series (maybe with the exception of Hunters, which sucks) I chose this avatar.

It was so sad when that happened to the hatchling. Equivalent of when they kill a dog or cat in a movie for emotional impact (or the "dipped" shoe in Roger Rabbit). I prefer to think the hatchling is still alive on some planet, happily floating around sucking the life out of the occasional zoomer, skreeeeeee! Love Metroid too, though not as much the Prime entries (I'm not big on FPS'). Want to see side-scrolling Metroid again some day!
