The GameCube's disc reader stopped working about a month prior to the Wii's launch, and my DS's (original model) volume decides when it wants to work, and it sometimes ghosts what the bottom screen is displaying onto the top screen.

That said, the DS's problems might have something to do with the time it was dropped down a flight of 25+ stairs. Honestly I was surprised it even worked at all after that. (and to this day the culprit has not been allowed to touch any of my possessions)

Also, my Saturn doesn't save, but it was like that when I got it. I'm also thinking that might be fixable.

The Wii....twice. Guess it was kinda my fault, for some stupid reason I thought the noise from the disc drive was normal. lol
Anyways was playing Brawl when the noise got loud for a few seconds then came to a stop. After that it wouldn't play any games, the drive went dead. (couldn't even FEEL it running)
Second time, I dunno...lens went bad or something I guess, lol

My Dreamcast's lens stopped reading discs about a year after I got it. I keep telling myself that one day I'm going to buy myself another working one, but I never get around to doing it.

Most of the DS variations that I've owned have ended up with at least one bad shoulder button, and all of them eventually saw their hinges KO'd.

PS2 after only a few years of rare play gets really blurry and loud with even a little bit of a touch. I don't even like most games for it that aren't multiplat, so it doesn't bug me much.

Over the summer, I spent over 20 combined hours of figuring out how to fix an NES for the local Youth Center (I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the problem was, until I finally discovered it was the lockout chip the whole time, after going through many failed attempts to fix more common problems that I figured was the root cause.) Needless to say, it broke after about 30 minutes of play at the Youth Center... I was pretty pissed about it. This NES was, as I said, particularly annoying. I had no previous experience with cartridge playing systems at all before that, except for the GBA, and I never had to open it up to get inside. I'm pretty good with technology, so I figured it out anyways, but those things are so unreliable. I guess I can't expect the world from a console over 20 years old though...

It should be. Did you ever replace the Lithium battery in the system?

The only system that ever crapped out on me was my Gamecube. It just stopped reading games. This was a couple months before the Wii launched so I was faced with the question of whether I should wait for the Wii or get a new Gamecube. I decided to just get a new gamecube, in retrospect, I think that was a good idea.

Meanwhile, I still have my old graybox Playstation that I got pro-owned well over 10 years ago and it's still doing well. Go figure.

.... or something like that.

Well... Nothing really. I have an N64, GCN, 2 Wiis, a GBA, GBA SP, a Micro, DS, DS Lite, DSi, and 3DS. I also had a PSP for a while and then sold it. It worked fine though. The one thing I will say, the touch screen on my DS Lite for a while wouldn't work and I don't blame it because it went through a lot; but it has worked fine after its little episode.

My Game cube wont read disks
Game boy SP right trigger won't work anymore
Wii won't read disks
DS right button won't work and screen really loose and the screen is always blueish
And I really take care of my systems they just stop working from being used for a VERY long time.

My first Wii fried its own graphics chip from the heat generated by Standby. My DS Lite and DSi had their triggers go. Yes, I know you can blow into them, but after a while it started to get ineffective and I stopped. I figured if it didn't help, it could only hurt.

My NES would never load games properly. I'd get a flashing screen and would have to blow into the cartridge to remove any dust particles. The only other system that had that problem was my original Game Boy.

My N64 was a tank. Had that thing for over 10 years. The only thing that didn't work well was the controller's analog stick.

The used GameCube I had for about a month wouldn't read games very well, so I returned it to GameStop

My GBA SP worked flawlessly.

I had a DS Lite for a couple months, and the shoulder buttons got loose, so I returned it to GameStop.

My 3DS has a slightly loose L button, and the top screen got some scratches from closing the system. It's not a big problem, but I'm going to send it in to Nintendo for a replacement.

My Wii had to be repaired twice, due to Super Smash Bros. Brawl constantly freezing. Luckily I got the system fixed for free both times. I guess Nintendo still upholds their free repair deal if Brawl is the culprit.

My PS3 has some freezing issues with certain games I downloaded, but hopefully it's just a random fluke and nothing more serious (corrupted hard drive?). The disc drive is also a bit noisy, but all disc-based game systems have that problem.

I've been pretty lucky with my consoles and handhelds. The only one to truly break down is my Wii. After about 6 months it started randomly freezing. It was only every so often at first, but then it got to the point that I couldn't play for 5 minutes without it freezing. Nintendo would never tell me what was wrong with it either. They just replaced it without a word.

Also my SNES is in bad shape, but after about 20 years and not taking good care of it as a kid, its not surprising. lol so the console didn't fail me in this instance.

My GBA SP... but I did drop that down a stone staircase, so I suppose really I failed my GBA rather than my GBA failed me. And my DS Phat, the hinge broke off. Still technically works, but the top screen now succumbs to gravity's cruel will, which does make things rather hard to play unless I hang off the ceiling like a bat. Asides that, everything in working order.

My Wii Balance Board is in 2 pieces. I once smashed it against concrete with all the fury I could muster. No my fault, though, it's Nintendo's They shouldn't have made that game in Wii Fit where you sit still so frustratingly difficult.

My DS sawed the hinges and still kept it.
My PSP UMD Laser got worn out but one of my friends are fixing that by a firmware update.
My old PC shuts off by itself. We cleaned the inside a few times but still gets dusty.

Xbox 360 every time. I don't bother trying to diagnose them anymore. I sell the parts on ebay(hard disk drive, controller, power brick, cables), and buy a second-hand replacement, pays for itself.

Get the new Slim model. They supposedly fixed all the problems (mainly the Red Ring issue).

Or just don't even bother with the 360 anymore. Rebuying parts, sending it to Microsoft multiple times, all that is too much hassle. That's why I got a PS3, they're much more reliable.

You're letting a friend fix a PSP? Just send it in to Sony. That's what their customer service is for. When my Wii broke (twice) I sent it in to Nintendo, and they fixed it for free. The technicians working for these game companies are trained and qualified to repair these game devices. I wouldn't trust a random friend to do it.
