Yeah, I will say that the Yoshi series, while consisting of a bunch of good to great games, are a bit too stuck to the foundation that the first game built, just with more babies or yarn or crafts or whatever New Island was trying to do. A game that actually tries to shake up the formula a little bit more, maybe even leaning further into 2.5D platforming like Crafted and Story could be a nice change of pace.

Not sure whether unpopular but I wish the BCP on the 3DS side of track selection focused on courses with underwater segments taking into consideration that World doesn't have underwater driving:
Cheep Cheep Cape instead of Toad Circuit
Wario's Galleon instead of Alpine Pass
Bowser's Castle instead of Rainbow Road
The World remake of Wario's Galleon is different enough from the MK7 original that it would still feel fresh in World even if the original came to MK8 Deluxe.
@VoidofLight
That is one of the few actual unpopular opinions I have seen on this thread. I like Crafted’s OST a fair amount more than most people but to say the original’s iconic tunes or Wooly World’s relaxing vibes are awful is crazy. Fair on everything else though (bar a few good songs in Story)
@Grumblevolcano
That might be the first time I’ve ever seen Cheep Cheep Lagoon/Cape (had to look up my regional variant, that’s how forgettable it is) picked in favor of anything before, but given the wet fart that Toad’s Circuit was in the BCP, I can’t say I disagree.

Pokémon Gen 9 is my favorite Pokémon Gen, and it's not even recency bias. I can explain why, If anyone wants to hear about it.
I prefer gen 8 purely because of Arceus. I guess the new Legends game will be gen 9 so we'll see.
For S/V, great plot and fun exploration and movement abilities and great new Pokemon but the sandwiches were not exciting, the towns were bland, the clothing options were kinda ugly, the school part was a bit scuffed, the performance was pretty darn bad on Switch 1, and the lack of sane level scaling was hilarious but also not great game design.
For me, overall, I liked the game because the good aspects were very good, but I would put it middle of the pack overall.
@FishyS, Gen 8 was also awesome! I loved Pokémon Shield and HOME (which I still use for Violet) and I like what I've seen of Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl and Arceus! Still undecided on whether I'm getting those games someday, since I'm already going to be busy with others, including the upcoming Z-A! I'm just a massive Pokémon fan in general.
My top 5 favorite games:
1: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1
2: Pokémon Violet
3: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4: The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening (2019)
5: Animal Crossing New Horizons

I really dislike Eevee. Everyone I know loves the Eeveelutions and Eevee- but I just think all the designs aside from Sylveon are bland.
I like Charizard and really like the forms it got.
I hate Mega Evolution because it feels like it takes away from pokemon getting actual evolutions or permanent forms in return for temporary forms that only exist to be flashy and nothing else.
I think Sinnoh is the most bland region in the series- with very little variation in terms of areas. It feels like all of the region is just forest with the occasional mountain and swamp.
PLA is a decent game, but I much prefer Scarlet and Violet in gameplay to it.

@VoidofLight you break my heart with the eevee hate 💔 charizard i feel like is a popular opinion tho! also love the new pfp!

Pikmin 2 is the best Pikmin game. It’s definitely not gonna be everyone’s favorite, but to me, I love the insane challenge the game provides, as well as the amount of freedom. The game pretty much lets you loose shortly after starting, just telling you to collect 10000 Pokos. There’s so many moments that are some of my favorite moments in any game, like finding Waterwraith, getting bulbmin, credits roll and you get to be President in a new, even harder area, etc.
It's still so frustrating that Pikmin 4 felt like it refused to end. I had the exact same issue with Skyward Sword, take out 5 hours of content out of my (nearly) 100% run out of literally any of the less interesting content and its an immediately better game. But the game felt like it just refused to end. Like take out a couple of dandori levels and most of the final level, even though none of it was worse, I would've enjoyed the game more. And because I had decided to do a...well maybe 100% but close to 100% run and only in the last 1/4 of the game was it a problem, it didn't feel right to just rush to the end. Fix that and one or two other things, almost certainly my favorite Pikmin game.
People understate the problems of too much of a good thing. Most single player games were not meant for 40 hour playthroughs, especially when ignoring RPGs.
Still the most frustrating one was Arkham Knight. The answer to "What if Arkham City had twice as much content?" is that it would be a worse video game, which was so unnecessary since the Arkham games already have a side mode if you want your game to refuse to end, instead it was required to run every potentially interesting sidequest into the ground so you get the true ending. I didn't want that, leave me out of it!
This is why I don't 100% games. I tried with Spiderman PS4, and I didn't 100% it fully. I just got tired of playing it and tired of trying to get everything. Especially when someone I knew at the time was forcing me into doing it. The guy also was a backseat gamer the entire time- and told me what suit I could and couldn't wear.

@kkslider5552000 I've just finished a replay of Pikmin 4...and tbh I couldn't disagree more.
What I love about Pikmin 4 is its abundance and diversity of content. And it's all great.
I do understand criticisms about a game being too long - but I reserve that for games that space out the good content with mediocre content. That is simply not that case with Pikmin 4 IMO. With Pikmin 4 you can readily stop at any point - e.g. when you get the first ending after rescuing Olimar. There is no need to 100% things, but it massively adds to the game if you choose to do so.
@Buizel
I agree with you. Pikmin 4 is one of those games, which make me feel rewarded for 100%ing it. Just good content all around. Even the item descriptions were fun to read.
Even so, I can understand, that it might be too much content for many players.
I feel like not many games make it fun to 100%. Games where the main game is fun and the post game simply isn't that exciting are common and games where getting to 98% is fun but then they put in something rediculous and tedious for the last 2% are common. Having it be fun and worthwhile all the way to 100% is a rarity.
Being fixated on "fully completing" a game to the extent that it makes you dislike the game is self-defeating and frankly somewhat pathological behavior.
That's not to say I haven't done things I wasn't thrilled with to "complete" a video game before (hello, blue coins in Mario Sunshine!), but if continuing to play a game is making you enjoy it less, END THE GAME.
Some games are designed to be fully experienced. Some games toss in a ton of padding to flesh out the experience for people who want more, or to fill up a big world (Breath of the Wild and its countless koroks come to mind). Not everything is meant to be played in the same way.
There's a point where doing everything in a game just becomes a reflection of the player's own neurotic approach to the hobby.

That's not the problem. The problem when a game hits that exact point way too late, and I have a feeling of "might as well at this point". If I'm meh on the side content halfway through, yeah, makes sense to do that, but when I'm like 80% there when I realize that, might as well. Pikmin 4 was exactly that. Not helped that certain aspects of its side content were actually enjoyable to fully do (the Olimar side mode).
Best example that this is not an easy answer is the open world Zeldas. BOTW I didn't fully appreciate until AFTER I had stopped playing it. Whereas TOTK I had put 200 hours in, beat the game, but thought I'd enjoy getting the rest of the shrines but spent the next 50 hours doing that and filling the remaining underground map, only to not even be done with the shrines For 200 hours, TOTK I liked almost as much the previous game, but those last 50 hours and realizing I still hadn't finished finding shrines made me question my fondness for the game.
Or Xenoblade 2, whose sidequest issues went from funny to boring and obnoxious as I tried to do more after beating the game. I had reasons to believe I'd get past the worst of it only to find more frustration undermining every improvement they attempted to make.
And in general the problem is also less that I stopped having fun but that I had notably less fun than I would have wanted based on the high points of those games in particular. And also that I had played the game much the same way I played past games in these series, so it was reasonable to think that even through SOME meh parts that things would pick up even for games with too much content. Yeah, obviously, choice I made, but that doesn't change my issues exactly. Even with Pikmin 4, maybe my time could be better now in a replay when I try not to 100% so much of the game, but I'd rather just replay the older games that are shorter instead.
Funniest thing about this is btw that I'm a Luigi's Mansion 2 enjoyer, which I think many people here would use as exhibit A of this problem (if certainly not just because of its increased length compared to the previous game).
And don't get me wrong, with Pikmin 4 is still like an 8/10 at absolute worse, but its a shame that I feel like it could've been my favorite game in the series and then it wasn't.
My take on 100% completion is that I won't go for it if it's too difficult or time-consuming (which it usually is most of the time). To this day, I've 100% completed just one game (or mode I you want to be picky about it): the World of Light story mode in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Though I've also completed the Paldea and Teal Mask Pokédexes in Pokémon Violet, if that counts.

@ShieldHero woah, 100% world of light is impressive! since the object of a game is to have fun, usually doing everything is not rly my thing either, so i agree with you. i think experiencing many different games first is good before 100%ing. although im gonna try to 100% MKW like i did w 8 deluxe haha 😸

I do think in general that 100% games is often kinda bad. Too often, even in awesome, reasonably paced games, it feels like there's almost always SOMETHING that'll ruin it. One aspect that's so much more obnoxious than the rest. (I have done the Nintendo Gallery in Minish Cap twice and will have to do it a third time if I want to avoid the glitch that prevents 100% completion ;___; )
Like 2 years ago before TOTK, along with doing the DLC for AoC for a quasi-Zelda marathon I guess, I tried to 100% both OOT and the Link's Awakening remake. For OOT I found out first hand that you can lock yourself out of an insignificant upgrade if you do a completely unrelated sidequest, and I realized this after doing nearly everything else, including all the skulltulas and the very annoying giant poe hunt. I did 100% Link's Awakening remake, which was far from the worst example of 100%, but that dungeon creator mode did last longer than it needed to, and it still kinda feels like the extra content only exists to justify selling a Gameboy remake for 60 bucks. (which I guess looking at BD/SP or DKC:HD, could be worse)
I hope it doesn't sound like I automatically hate large games, as a Hyrule Warriors enjoyer that's inherently untrue. But because I have Hyrule Warriors and Xenoblade and BOTW etc, I don't need all my favorite 15-20 hour games from the 2000s to decide they have to be 40 hours now because reasons. They were awesome at 15-20 hours, and would still be awesome at 15-20 hours actually. stares at Prime 4
