I just caught Daybreakers (my rating: 3 out of 5) and Deathwatch (4 out of 5). I'd recommend Deathwatch. It's about a group of British Soldiers fighting in the trenches of WW1. They stumble upon three German's guarding a trench from an unknown group which they appear to be quite a bit more afraid of than they are of the British. Haunted/Supernatural hijinks ensue. It's a bit of a strange take on the whole "Good Samaritan" thing.

Oh and Aliens: Special Edition (no bonus footage in this one afaik) is instantly watchable too. I watched it for the 1569841313th time the other night.

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena before it is no longer available instantly. Awesome show and even if you haven't seen Blood and Sand its all good because this is actually a prequel to it! Go watch now! Warning there is nudity and lots of violence though.

THERE... ARE... 4 LIGHTS!

Oh, and here's some recommendations. Three incredibly under-appreciated classics.

Top Secret: Brilliant comedy. From the same director of Air Plane (I believe). A great Spy spoof that puts Austin Powers to shame.

Dial M for Murder: Stupid title, great movie. It's not Hitchcock's best, but it's still a very dark, suspensfull movie.

The Killing: Excellent film noir. If you're at all looking forward to Rockstar and Team Bondi's LA Noir you should check it out.

Ooh, haven't seen The Killing, but I loves me some noir! Adding to queue...

Dial M is actually one of my least favorite Hitchcock movies, but that's not much of an insult, considering how great his stuff is. Part of my problem with it is that it's not as rewatchable as most of his stuff. Still worth watching though, especially for free!

As far as films I discovered thanks to Instant Streaming, I recommend Moon to absolutely everyone. Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey in one of only two science fiction films that I would say deserve to be on my favorite movies ever list. (The other is Alien.)

Truly great. Don't look it up before you see it. Go in expecting nothing.

You'll be glad you did.

Top Secret...completely excellent DUMB comedy starring Val Kilmer. I love that move and have seen it so many times.

I know a little german...and there he is over there.

If anyone is up for a Nazi/Jew movie, "Defiance" with Daniel Craig is pretty good.

@Chicken
Yeah, Dial M starts out very strong but drags on towards the end. Not my favorite by any means, but I'm glad I watched it. And thank you for reminding me about about Moon! I've been meaning to watch that for awhile; I've heard Rockwell's performance in it is spectacular.

I also just realized that every season of Futurama is on Instant.
God help me.

@Kid_A Yeah, I've been working on watching every episode, but for now, I'm watching all four movies, then getting back into the series, 2 down, 2 more to go.

The movie, or the show? I haven't seen either, but I heard the movie was horrendous (from most people, and also some critics, both of whom I tend to disagree with) I and I heard it was good from some people I actually trust, who haven't seen the show.

The movie is awful, period. Not only does it kill everything about the show but it doesn't even tell a competent story. I honestly can't see how anyone could like it. The show, however, is fantastic. WATCH IT.

Just to tell you how bad the movie is they dont even call it Avatar: The Last Airbender right there I should have known it would be awful.

Actually, they probably didn't call it Avatar because of that OTHER movie called Avatar, with the blue smurfs. But I did manage to watch the movie finally, via Netflix, and I thought it was actually pretty good. It's not great, but it's not horrible. I don't understand why people were so upset over it. I haven't seen much of the cartoon, but I don't really care how faithful it is to the show. It's NOT the show. It's a movie, and as a movie, it was...decent.

I'll second this recommendation. Blood and Sand was friggin awesome and it's a shame about what happened to Andy Whitfield (Spartacus) and the subsequent canceling of the show. (Get better, Andy!) Gods of the Arena is almost as awesome and definately worth watching.

If anyone wants any more Mystery Science Theater recommendations (as far as Netflix Instant goes) here are some truly great ones. (Fair warning...I prefer the Mike era to Joel.) In approximate order of awesomeness:

  • Laserblast
  • Werewolf
  • The Beast of Yucca Flats
  • Pod People
  • Soul Taker

Those are some good ones (I'm a Mike fan as well). I'll add a few more of my favorites.
1. Eegah! (Possibly my all time favorite)
2. Final Justice
3. Teenagers from Outer Space
4. Phantom Planet
5. Devil Doll

And I'll throw in a Future War for good measure.

Oh man, yeah. I don't know how I forgot Devil Doll. That one was phenomenal!

Eegah was also pretty great, and Future War. Thanks for reminding me...I now I want to rewatch them.

You don't understand. The director pretty much straight up said that he did not give a damn about the show because it was a cartoon. He decided that he could do whatever the hell he wanted with the characters and story because they are fictional 2D characters that don't mean anything to anyone. He's wrong and a moron. You know what the best part is? He thinks the steaming pile of idiocy that he made was better than the show.

If you're going to make a movie based on something, you have to be a fan of the work itself and want to do justice to it. This guy couldn't care less and it disgusts me.

Does anybody know where I can find a complete list of Netflix offerings? I wanna know if its worth subscribing.

Just check the website. Films and TV shows are cycled in and out of the Instant Stream service so the only reliable way to know what's available at any given time is to check the official site.
