I detest FPS games but I love bioshock games. Goes to show a story goes a long way. I don't consider Mirror's edge an FPS but I love both games. Portal was interesting but I wouldn't revisit it. Dishonored is nice enough for me to play through...my opinion hasn't settled on the series yet (as of right now I like the story but hate playing it....haven't even gotten to 2 or the Outsider yet).

Sorry I went and died for nearly a week, I've been really sick and I've had to catch up on the school work I missed while I was out. I've it pretty much done now, and I'm not feeling that bad either.

Sob story aside, new poll today, sorry bout all that.

Yeh, I couldn't truly say there's a genre I dislike. But there's some I tend to avoid just because I can't play everything and have to prioritise.

I steer clear of RTS and online-only games because they tend to gobble up time, and turn-based stuff too because they're so slow going, though I have been building a little collection e.g. Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest, to try out someday.

I can't tell you how much I hated the ghost houses in SMW.

Chocolate Island 2 is one of the dumbest Mario levels ever.

It sure is nice how 'today' becomes 'ungodly early the day after next' sometimes.

And now what everyone's been waiting longer than I should've made them has been waiting for, a new poll!

http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=59dab369e4b01ac6b8181768

I'd normally post what the options are here, but I'm on mobile so it's rather fiddly, (and I may or may not have a 4 page essay to do at 1am) but you can see the options by clicking in, so hopefully that's no biggie.

I'll close this one fairly fast, (Faster than it took to make it anyways) so vote while you can!

Soul Calibur 2
i really don't like fighting games partially because i really suck at them. and while i also probably suck at soul calibur 2, the announcer alone makes this game super fun to play. it's just so cool to pull off some brutal fighting moves and listening to the satisying sounds of the characters and such

Sorted, poll is closed, here's the results:
1st - 2D Sonic Games (6 Votes - 33%)
2nd/3rd - Mainline D.K Games/Pinball Games/Gaming-based Pinball Tables (4 Votes Each - 22%)
4th - Fighting Game Series (3 Votes - 17%)
5th - Racing Games Other Than Mario Kart (1 Vote - 6%)
That's that then, 2D Sonic Games is our new topic! I'll get something up when I can, but I'm a smidge tied up at the moment, so fire away.

Also quick reminder that believe it or not, Sonic 4 is technically considered a game, so that'll be a fun topic to tear apart.

3. Sonic the Hedgehog/3 - Only played these on a PS2 collection, and never bothered to finish either. Can't really put one over the other.

2. Sonic & Knuckles - The second one I've played. Played it a lot when I was a kid at my cousins' house, but even all these years later, have never beat it.

1. Sonic 2 - The first I've played and thus the one I hold the most nostalgia for. I remember playing it at my cousins' house almost every weekend, and finally beat it years later in one of those collections for PS2 (the only one I've actually beat, lol).

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

1. Sonic 3 and Knuckles - Duh
2. Sonic 2 - Also, duh
3. Sonic Rush Adventure - I feel like this is a really fun, underappreciated Sonic game. Probably because it's the one where I actually really enjoyed the non-Sonic gameplay they added to it. I genuinely think the various ocean traveling gameplay mechanics were pretty cool tbh, it weirdly was way better than Phantom Hourglass' attempt at this. And the 2D Sonic was good, in some ways better than the first Rush.
4. Sonic Advance 2 - I absolutely loved this game back in the day. It was a really fun time, though I don't have much memories other than it feeling much faster and more fun than the first one.
5. Sonic Rush - I always liked the boost mechanics, they were a smart decision once people realized classic Sonic wasn't actually the fastest thing alive. Another solid Sonic game, occasional annoyances aside. Also, one of the best soundtracks in the series, and that's saying a lot.
6. Sonic 1 - I mean, it's classic Sonic but the 2nd stage and 4th stages are too slow and annoying. So, most people's opinion of it. shrugs
7. Sonic Advance - I liked this game growing up, but not as much as others seem to.
8. Sonic 4 Episode 1 - This was probably a clearly flawed game but at the time, I was actually able to adjust to the physic issues and everything to make it a fun little speedrun game, which is arguably what you want from a Sonic title. I'm biased towards it though, since I bought it day 1, which caused me to actually be in the top 10 online leaderboards for a few stages for a short while.
9. Sonic Advance 3 - This might've been higher but I remember so little about it outside of kinda of enjoying it, but I do remember some frustration and a certain review I saw with footage is enough to make me think I would partially regret going back to it.
10. Sonic 4 Episode 2 - This is the only game here I never finished. Mostly I remember not liking it too much and giving up because I REALLY didn't like the combination moves.

The only Sonic game that I've ever played (and actually did beat) was my brother's copy of Sonic Advance 3. Admittedly I wasn't too impressed with it. It wasn't a bad game, just that I didn't find it very memorable. I more beat it just to say that I had done so.

I probably need to try the classic Sonic games at some point since others seem to praise the series highly. For reasons that I can't explain, I've just never been that interested with the series. Maybe I started with the wrong (albeit "free") game?

Haven‘t touched a 2D Somic game outside of Mania, Rivals 1 and 2 as well as Rush and Rush Adventure, all of whom I haven‘t even finished yet, which, except for Mania, won‘t ever change. I thoroughly enjoyed what I‘ve played of Mania thus far but I‘ve just got too many games on my Switch to focus on them all, especially if an evergreen title like Splatoon has got its claws wrapped around you.

Only played Sonic 1 and 2 on 3DS, but Sonic 2 is definitely superior due to better level design.

I'm not lazy it just took me a week to think of my ranking trust me

8. Sonic 4: Episode 1 - Gotta be brutally honest here, this is an absolute garbage tier game for me. As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing good about this game. The gameplay is basic at best and terribly gimmicky at worst, it controls awfully, looks awful, sounds awful, is shockingly uncreative and incredibly short. Sonic '06 at least gives me the odd giggle, this just makes me sad.

7. Sonic 4: Episode 2 - Everything wrong with Episode 1 applies here bar the creativity, the levels aren't second-rate copies of previous zones for the most part, and look a bit more appealing. The combo moves are a neat idea, but awfully executed.

6. Sonic 1 - While it certainly hasn't aged as badly as most 'first games', it's a bit rough around the edges. The gameplay is solid but the lack of Spin Dash is killer, and outside of Green Hill and Star Light, the Zones aren't amazing. Still a great game I come back to a lot.

5. Sonic Rush - Really fun while it lasts, but over a quick, the boost was fun but maybe a bit too fast, and the bosses were pretty rough. Music is stellar though, and the Special Stages were fantastic.

4. Sonic 2 - Sonic 2 kinda falls in the same boat as Sonic 1 for me, but with some key improvements. Of course, the Spin Dash is a fantastic addition, and the game's levels are more consistent and faster as a whole. The Special Stages aren't great, but an improvement nonetheless.

3. Sonic 3 - Just to be fair, I'll split this and Sonic and Knuckles. There's honestly not much wrong with this game at all, it's a massive improvement over previous games, and amazing on it's own. I would still give the edge to S&K though.

2. Sonic & Knuckles - I'd rank this above Sonic 3 just because I enjoy the levels more, I like the music more, and Knuckles adds so much more to this game than Tails does in 3.

1. Sonic Mania - <3

I have played CD and Knuckles' Chaotix, but I never finished either. CD is fantastic but certainly the hardest to pick up and play, while CK is just a mess. Also, new poll in a couple hours, sorry I died again, haven't been in the best state lately.

There we go, new poll. Back to 4 options for today.

http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=59ebe455e4b036a938d508ee

Options this time are:

  • Mainline Donkey Kong Games
  • Pinball Games/Gaming Based Pinball Tables
  • Best Updates/DLC in Gaming
  • Games You Liked After a Second Chance

Hopefully that suits, I'll have this one closed fastish, but that could mean anything at this point. I'm starting to say 'soon' in the way Valve does it.

  • Sonic 1: The only downside of this game is that there is no legit way (except one cheat) to choose the stage you want to play and to save (except for modern editions with save game features). Those problems are quite annoying but everything else is superb. Graphics are iconic with a subtle yet wonderful oniric touch, music is great and stages settings are very intriguing and appealing. Gameplay is simple but addictive and a lot of fun
  • Sonic 1: yes, this game is that great
  • Sonic 1: Yes I mean THAT great
  • Sonic Mania: very similar to Sonic 1, greatly improves the original formula but also loses the perfect balance of the first game. I love everything about this game except Chemical Plant and Oil Ocean Zone. I have to say that it made me at least enjoy Chemical Plant act 2, quite impressive since I've always hated Chemical Plant. It is a great game, but not better than the first one.
  • Sonic 1 and Sonic Mania: Ok, this is the last time I do that I promise
  • Empty space
  • Empty space
  • Sonic CD: This game could have been fantastic but it is a little too complex and not "straightforward" enough compared to other Sonic games. It is a different take on Sonic but the worst thing is that while many Zones are great some of the later ones feel cheap and underdeveloped. It is still a very good game but it is disappointing sometimes.
  • Sonic 3 & Knuckles: This is a very good game, but the special stages are boring and graphics goes from "Absolutely GREAT" (Hydro city zone, Marble garden zone) to barely acceptable (Angel island zone). Music is good but somehow less good than other episodes. A very solid entry but not as exciting as other ones

I don't like other 2D Sonic games, Sonic 2 imho is garbage.

I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee

@Tyranexx I know, I wanted something spooky for Halloween and for some reason that of all things popped into my head.

@LuckyLand Dude no way Empty Space 1 and 2 are some of my favourite games ever.

@CreamyDream It's funny you should say that about Sonic 2. I feel the EXACT same way with your #1, Sonic 3 and Knuckles. I find it a drag getting through that game, and there aren't really many levels that I look forward to playing through. I find every zone in Sonic 2 distinct and unique, whereas I feel Sonic 3 relies too heavily on platforming cliches - Water level, Ice level, Fire level, Casino level, Spooky level...
