Topic: The Goodbye/Vacation Thread

I found out this morning that Anti-Matter has been banned, and I’m unwilling to be a part of a community that exiles decent people while some miserable, basement folk run amok. The way some people treated him for being unique is appalling. This was kind of the last straw for me, as the community has become increasingly gross, and the site itself has never recovered from Thomas Whitehead’s departure.

I realize this means very, very little to the vast majority, but I’ve had some nice interactions here, and if you want to stay in touch; my IG is linked in my bio. It’s my only social media. I’ve been reading Chris Scullion’s site recently, and maybe I’ll become active there. Maybe not.

Try to remember that we play games, and they should be fun. Don’t ruin them for yourself by dissecting them and taking them so serious. Take care.

@bimmy-lee Good job for sticking up for something you believe in. @Anti-Matter has never in any way bothered me. Yes he is unique but his love for Nintendo isn't. We need more like him and less like the others you are referring to.

Wait, why has he been banned? Where does it state so? I can still enter his profile.

I see now, it's probably that stupid downvote system put into place recently. People have been downvoting his comments and too many downvotes probably means ban. That downvote system was a bad idea from the start, easily misused.

That would be stupid to ban someone just because a few people don't agree with what they said.

Permanently banned? I mean, I disagreed with him on some stuff and agreed with him on other stuff but he never did my head in like some regular posting folk. Shame.

@Grumblevolcano The only thing I know is that the new down vote feature hadn't anything to do with it.

If the new down vote feature could ban someone, it would be abused to no end by trolls, or even worse, bots, so Anti-Matter wasn't banned for that reason.

I’m back. Joking, I’m not, but I saw a couple mentions in my email. For the sake of clarification, he contacted me on IG this morning to let me know he wouldn’t be around. Not sure if it’s temporary, or permanent, not sure if he knows, but he wrote an email to appeal. I know it hurt him. It wasn’t the downvote system that got him. Thanks Spoony. Right there with you Subpopz. I don’t want to be dramatic, so later friends. Maybe see you in another corner of the Mushroom Kingdom some time.

@bimmy-lee Wait, what? I can understand the sentiment, but still. My modus operandi in cases like these is just to take some time off, I did so for a month last year, but I'm not going to quit a site, just because some other total stranger that I don't know got banned or temporarily banned, which is probably the case.

I do agree with you that he is one of the persons that least deserves to be banned, and I can appreciate his creativity and skills in drawing, but I think his problem is in part due to his autism, and his apparent inability to contain his emotions and/or private thoughts, and inability to respect views of others.

If you saw him completely fly off the handle in the Pokemon movie thread (because he apparently hates Ryan Reynolds), that annoyed me as well, and I'm one of the most social persons you'll ever meet.

It comes across as SO aggressive and single-minded, and he should learn that people have different opinions and should not be bashed for that. He even pushed the ignore button on several people, just because they didn't agree with him, and that's just too childish and not how and/or why the ignore button was intended to be used.

So, regardless of whether or not he deserved a warning/ban in general, I'm honestly not really all too surprised that his ever-growing extreme behavior had to have some consequences at some point.
For him, there's just no middle ground, ever.

Anyway, sorry to hear you're quitting the site, I'll fondly remember the good game & beer talks, though...

I'm glad you informed us about Anti-Matter, I'd have never known, and I was having a pleasant conversation with him in the World of Final Fantasy thread yesterday. I kind of agree with you. @ThanosReXXX isn't wrong about A-M's extreme posts at times, and I can see him being a disruption of the site in some ways, and yet, he's about the last person I could see deserving a ban. Strongly opinionated, and having a unique opinion, sure, but he's no Slig... and a genuine Nintendo fan (too genuine for his own good at times.) I can think of a number of people who have been more purposefully disruptive than his overly passionate posts. Even if I won't miss hearing about DDR and The Sims every day I won't be leaving because of it, but I can't say I'm comfortable with the idea of a regular getting banned like that unless he did something particularly offensive.

Still sad when one of the old gang leaves. I mean, we certainly don't come to this site for the top notch breaking news!

Nothing big to say here except i guess hopefully that Anti-Matter can learn from this experience moving forward. We're not always born to be perfect human beings and we probably never will. But being awesome especially when others help ourselves and each other to be awesome is good enough for us.
