Sega has announced 2024 the year of Shadow. I guess it makes sense with the upcoming Generations remaster & 3rd Movie, but I thought that they did what Nintendon't. Year of Luigi would like a word.

Mega post since I apparently have a LOT to respond to in this and other threads. Most were posted while I was asleep. I feel loved lol.

@jedgamesguy Hey, no problem! Good luck with that growing Mario game pile! Mine is tempered down more, but that's ignoring a couple titles I don't have yet. XD

I'd be down for MK8D voice chat again in the future. Unless it's very hot, I'll likely leave my living room windows closed this time. I'm sure we can set a new time before long. Though my availability might be less now that my D&D group is trying to come out of a long hiatus.

@Anti-Matter Yep, when all else fails, there's always online eclipse footage to watch. The forecast wasn't nearly as promising a week ago - it showed it would be cloudy and rainy - but yesterday turned out to be a VERY nice day to view it here. There is a total solar eclipse that passes near you on July 22nd, 2028. The path of totality is in the ocean, but Surabaya is within the 90% range of it! So you should be able to see that one, weather permitting. You'll have to go on a boat or travel to Australia to view totality though.

I've not tried DDR since it's very hard to find those machines in my area. I could probably learn those games if I tried hard enough. My problem with rhythm games is that I can easily time button presses with the musical beat, if my multiple attempts with games like Cadence of Hyrule (and I REALLY wanted to like this one) and HarmoKnight are any indication, I just don't think they're for me. Probably the closest equivalent I somewhat clicked with is the Guitar Hero series.

I've heard the Tales series is pretty decent and have a couple of games backlogged - Tales of Vesperia on Switch and Tales of the Abyss on 3DS - but haven't played them yet. I'd like to get Symphonia and some of the others on PC at some point. As for the Atelier games, they aren't really my thing between the premise and mechanics involved. I did research a couple of the Switch ones and decided to pass on them for now. I'm not really into a ton of fan service in games, no matter the gender.

@Sunsy First and foremost, happy birthday! I hope it's a great one!

I bet the earthquake felt weird; I know the first time I went through one was unnerving, though I was far enough away from the epicenter that there was no damage nearby. There was some near the epicenter, and I think one injury. This was back in 2008 and I think was a 4.6 max. There was a significant aftershock later that day though.

I think I would have liked Amiibo Festival at least for some group fun if I had other people to play with. It's a definite waste with just me. Same reason why I don't buy the Mario Party games.

Thanks; I got through those evenings...barely. I don't normally have issues with my Switch pro controller other than when I forget to charge it. I think I charge it every other week maybe, but that depends how heavily I play my Switch. I usually average two hours most weekdays, and that's if I don't decide to game on a different platform that night. I can get a lot more in on weekends, but this depends on what I have going on.

@MarioVillager92 Interesting....Part of it might have been how Discord filters sound; I don't have any issues with people hearing me on that headset since I use it for work, but we usually conference through Microsoft Teams. Might need to fiddle with my Discord sound settings too; it's been ages since I've used it for voice chat.

I can relate HARD on those mental health struggles, particularly low self esteem. Your junior high and high school years sound like mine in some ways, though jr. high was worse for me. I had very good grades, but I struggled socially sometimes. I'm trying to work on the self-love thing too. Some days are a lot easier than others. We just gotta keep at it.

The PSP is/was another great RPG machine. It passed me by back in the day, namely because of the price and that I wasn't too into the franchises on it then. I also wasn't really into RPGs outside of Pokemon and the MMBN games back then. I do concede RPGs can be quite long, which is why I'm selective about the ones I do grab.

As long as I don't mow or spend a ton of time outside, I usually don't have major spring allergy issues. I did manage to get outside a lot last weekend, though a last blast of winter this past week made it difficult after that. Supposed to be more seasonal starting today though.

Thanks, I'm quite enjoying my Ys VIII revisit. On Chapter 3 as of early this morning. Ys is a fun series, more about the gameplay than story sometimes. But that depends on the game too since there is a good overarching lore. Glad you're having a lot of fun with the first Splatoon, even if I don't miss using the Wii U Gamepad for some games. I use a pro controller for that system unless I can't get around it lol. Dragon Quest XI S is definitely a RPG I'd like to get to before long. The genre is a significant chunk of my backlog...and gaming preferences. As for the Zelda series, I need to revisit some of the games soon since it's been awhile. I played both TotK and the original Link's Awakening last year.

I like working in a haunted house a few weekends a year. It's a nice change of pace. The main thing is I have WAY less free time that time of year as a result.

Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)

@Tyranexx
The only Atelier game that caught my attention was Atelier Marie Remake as the character design in Chibi Nendoroid style, less fan service waifu looking, the male supportive characters looks appealing, approved age rating for me (E10+ / PEGI 12 / CERO B), but I still haven't get the game yet as I wait until I buy PS5 machine first then I will continue building my PS5 games.

When I'm not in the mood to play games with heavy storyline, I will pick Go Vacation or LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER for wandering around the 3D world, enjoy the scenery and do some random stuffs.

About JRPG games, on my purchase book I have added some wishlist titles I have never played before like Fairy Tail PS4 for the alternative choice of turn based JRPG with some male fan service swimsuit such as Natsu, Gray Fulbuster, the other six pack dudes rather than playing other Atelier games with focus on female fan service (not a fan of bikini and big boobs characters).
Also, I will add Dragon Quest XI, Dragon Quest Heroes 2, Trials of Mana, All Kingdom Hearts games, Valthirian Arc 2, Ni no Kuni 1 + 2, Trinity Trigger, etc for my PS5 machine. Btw, if you already get into Dragon Quest Builders 2, you will enjoy Portal Knights as well for similar gameplay as Dragon Quest Builders games.

I'm not sure about Legend of Legacy as the game have 3DS version + the Remaster version and I heard the game itself really hard to beat.
Not gonna lie, the Chibi character design looked cute and very similar to FF 3 NDS character design but the game difficulty spike that really concerned me.

So I got Princess Peach Showtime for my birthday! So far, I love the game. Posted my thoughts in the thread, also an oddity with the copy I got as a birthday gift having it being a "Middle East/Southeast Asia" copy of the game. To make things odder, it had a US copy of the game in the box. Didn't think much about it as Switch is region free.

I know I'm repeating it here, but an interesting discovery nonetheless.

@Sunsy Happy birthday! I hope you're having a wonderful day. Those are some cool presents you've gotten! It was indeed fun racing with you, and that's super cool you got to play that Mario Kart arcade game. That's a shame you got a cold, but I'm glad you're better now.

Thank you, it was related to my low self-esteem, but it's gotten a bit better. Though right now, my left thumb and left index finger have been feeling tired after playing quite a bit of Splatoon 1 last week. It might be because of how big the Wii U GamePad is, and it's been a while since I used it before that last week... I might have to rest more as a result.

Oh gotcha, I see. That's cool though. Lol, "Sunsy" does keep things small! So some Sonic games just have 8 characters for player names, huh? I don't recall... besides Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and Team Sonic Racing (I have both on Steam), I've not played any Sonic games online.

Just curious, I can't remember if I asked you already, but did you play the first Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast? I've heard of it back in the day, but never played it. Didn't play the GameCube version either... wasn't sure if I'd be into PSO as a kid, so I just stuck with Sonic in terms of Sega's offerings. Actually, a long time ago I had a Sega Genesis themed plug and play console from Radica, and I was able to play Sega's other games from there, such as Golden Axe and Kid Chameleon.

Ah, gotcha, yeah that does sound like busywork. Sounds like grinding to level up in RPGs, which I don't really like doing, lol. Especially if there's a boss fight that's hard because my party is underleveled.

Thank you! I did get Princess Peach Showtime too. It was a good day, watched Trolls Band Together, and WrestleMania (holy cow, what a main event!), and ordered some pizza. Was a very good birthday. Also, mom gave me a Strawberry Shortcake shirt, which is cool since I've been watching the cartoon for years. Surprisingly, we found a men's Strawberry Shortcake shirt. Indeed, I may play it again, my friend wants to take me to the arcade again for my birthday.

Glad to hear it got a bit better. Hope your fingers get better. Personally, I never had an issue with the Wii U game pad. Though I do remember using for other games the classic controller with Wii remote a lot when the option was there. I mainly used the gamepad for games that required it. Like Splatoon, or the two Sonic games.

Yeah, just the DS ones, Sonic Colors and Sonic Rush Adventure. It only used eight letters for the games' usernames. The names were used for online play and leaderboards.

Yup, I have played Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast, had version 2. Though played single player mode by myself. I didn't have SegaNet for my Dreamcast back then. That sounds like a nice plug and play system. I have one of the AtGames Sega handhelds. Sound is really bad, but still some cool points for being a portable Sega Genesis.

Yeah, a battle pass is a lot of work. At least you're not getting stuff out of lootboxes and know what you get when you pay. I think RPG grinding is better as there's no limit to it, while a battle pass is more like "complete this before the season expires."

Before that, Happy birthday to you.
Since you had played Splatoon 1 on Wii U, I want to know what we can do on the Splatoon main Street during Offline condition?
I knew we cannot even purchase the clothes and weapons if the machine didn't get connected to internet..
I think Nintendo should design Splatoon games with Offline base for basic gameplay like purchasing the clothes and weapons.
Why weren't we allowed to purchase the clothes / weapons just because our machine was not connected to internet?
They can make their Splatoon more like Ratchet & Clank style for who like the Offline contents and provide the Online features for who like to play with other players.
I heard the Octo expansion from Splatoon 2 and the DLC for Splatoon 3 made the games become worthier for Offline play, more like Ratchet & Clank style. Am I right?

Btw, I keep hearing from every Splatoon games, the way you get money by participating in Online Turf War. Is there any way to get the money with at least our machine (Switch) get connected to Online (subscribe $20 for NSO first) and not participating in Turf War?
I was thinking Local Multiplayer since I have two pairs of Joy Cons so I can have Multiplayer play by take control both of Joy Cons pair like being played by 2 different peoples.
Can I get some money by playing in Local Multiplayer?

Thank you!

Offline, you can play the single player story mode and the 1 vs. 1 local multiplayer.

I haven't even tried the clothing stores offline yet, so I wouldn't have an answer to why you can't buy clothes without online access. Though you do need to play online to earn the coins to buy in the shops. The gear often affects your squid's abilities.

Yeah, the Switch sequels have DLC that adds more single player content, though I haven't played Octo-Expansion.

It did, I was just sitting there talking with mom, planning to do grocery shopping, and then shaking happened out of nowhere. I'm surprised nothing fell, which makes it more weird.

Fair enough, I don't get to play Super Mario Party with anyone, so I usually just play the mini-games. Amiibo Festival was a bit more relaxing IIRC. The lack of mini-games makes it more of a "tap the amiibo on your turn" kind of game if I remember.

You're welcome. I think for me, it's a mix of playing games and using YouTube in the evenings to watch videos. I always have a habit of plugging it in, but sometimes I forget. More recently, I've been getting the battery low mostly because I forget to charge it in recent weeks.

I've been spending the last 20 minutes just browsing Google Maps at my hometown that I grew up in from 1988-2009. Alas, the video stores we used to go to are all gone thanks to Netflix and streaming services, but the Best Buy that I got my Wii a week after launch is still there.

@Sunsy
Speaking about Amiibo Festival, actually you can make them in real board game from paper.
I have ever made a board game for my students with idea from Amiibo Festival in term of the floors you landed on.
And since I made the board game for Math lesson purpose, I added the (?) floor which they have to answer my Math question whenever they landed on and if their answer is correct, they will get extra 3 Happy points / 3000 Gil.
The Questions from me is actually the replacement of Mini games which I added on it for Math lesson purpose.

I don't understand why the Nintendo fans were so upset with Amiibo Festival which from my different perspective, the gameplay concept is actually interesting when you translate them into real board game.
Based on Amiibo Festival idea, I added some new floors like Switch position, Two Dices, etc.
The board game design looks similar as Monopoly style which the players can decide the gameplay duration to determine the winner.

Back to Amiibo Festival, since I have more than 4 Amiibo figurines, I always play in Board mode style with 4 different Amiibo figurines and I set them for 4 Players so every players turn are my turn, nobody attacking each other since your Happy point will be accumulated after the game finished and since I take control all of them, the best way to level up quickly by co-operate each other like apply the Positive card as possible to avoid negative points of Happiness.
I usually play Amiibo Festival when I want some easy game without thinking too much, just roll the dice and see what happen, but try to be nice each other.

@Anti-Matter Cool idea for a math game.

I think most fans hated it because it wasn't a true Animal Crossing game, rather a board game. Will admit, the few times I did play it, I didn't hate it. I just took it as an Animal Crossing spin-off. Nothing more, nothing less.

The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!

Eel

It was mostly just not very eventful, and the island survivor mode everyone liked was later added to New Leaf as a mini game. So the one reason to play it was not even exclusive to it anymore.

Totally worth it for the free amiibo though, specially since it was dirt cheap at some point.

I haven't tried the Island Survivor mode from Amiibo Festival as I still like to play the board game mode.
Imagine if Nintendo keep pushing Animal Crossing for Wii U in year 2015 instead of Amiibo Festival, I think it will be semi sequel of ACNL with HD graphic, kinda like from Wild World to City Folk, not ACNH.
Even on Amiibo Festival all the villagers have sleevess outfits and exactly same sound bite from ACNL.

@Sunsy I've actually tried going to the shops while being offline, the game won't let you unless you're online. The clothes that you'd buy are exclusively used for online multiplayer. The same goes for any weapons bought in Sheldon's weapon shop. Hence why the shops can't be accessed without an internet connection.

I still have your notification saved, so I'll get to your reply later on. Just wanted to bring out my answer regarding Splatoon's in-game shops.

@Anti-Matter For some reason I thought you already had a PS5, but I might be thinking of the PS4? In any case, that's a decent wishlist of RPGs you're considering. I already have Dragon Quest XI S and have considered the Trials of Mana remake more than once. Still on the fence about that one. I'd like to try the Kingdom Hearts series too, but sadly those are quite gimped on the Switch since they're streaming only; this makes sense for Kingdom Hearts 3, but I think Square Enix lazed out on the rest. I'd say Dragon Quest Heroes II is more of a Musou/Dynasty Warriors game, but I've heard the RPG elements are strong. It sounds like this and the first game are both on the Switch, but only in Japan.

On Portal Knights: this is a good recommendation. I might try it at some point. I like what I'm finding online about it so far.

I'm...not sure if I can recommend The Legend of Legacy. I looked into that game for 3DS. While I don't get the impression it's BAD, it seems to be mediocre as far as JRPGs go. The Alliance Alive is supposed to be better if I recall.

@Sunsy Glad you had a great birthday! As for Princess Peach: Showtime, sounds like you got a "World Edition" of the game. These are legit, NTSC/North American copies earmarked for some other regions in the world. I have a couple of these types on 3DS. As you say, the Switch isn't region locked. The 3DS is, but World Edition games will work on NA/NTSC systems.

Sounds like the earthquake happened in the day. I am glad nothing fell. That first big tremor in 2008 happened in the early morning hours - I think around 4 AM - and woke up me and my siblings. My parents slept right through it lol. The big aftershock that many felt was at roughly 10:30 later that morning.

For my actual Switch, I leave it docked most of the time and don't take it anywhere often. So the actual unit is normally fine. I'm usually pretty on top of charging my pro controller though. I strictly use my Switch for games, though I'm considering installing Crunchyroll. My phone is usually my YouTube machine lol.

Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)

I still don't have PS5 machine yet, but I will try to get in June 2024 after I checked my financial situation. 😅
I have to sacrifice my NSO get expired, bought older games like PS2 / PS3 / Wii / Wii U with cheaper price to save some money in order to buy PS5 machine. But later I will renew my NSO subscription after I got PS5 machine.

For Kingdom Hearts games, I will get all of them on PS4 version since they have proper physical release and they all have 60 fps, looks even better on PS5 and moreover Kingdom Hearts games is more PlayStation centric than Nintendo centric considering their origin is from PS2.
Disney doesn't make their new games anymore so the only way to enjoy Disney games on PS5 by getting all Kingdom Hearts PS4 games + Disney Infinity 2.0 & 3.0 PS4 + Disney Dreamlight Valley PS5, the perfect combo for 3D exploration games.

Speaking about Dragon Quest Heroes games, I prefer the male protagonist from 1st game than 2nd game as the male protagonist from 2nd game doesn't have very appealing looking for my taste. He looks very similar as Bede from Pokemon Sword / Shield with purple curly hair (Bede hair is white) but the other playable characters in 2nd game looked better than the main protagonist looking. 😅
I have the first game Dragon Quest Heroes 1 on PS4, but currently I deleted the save data from my PS4 machine to give more spaces for other PS4 games with very small installation size and I will play Dragon Quest Heroes 1 again on PS5 machine.

Disney is really in big trouble as you heard Disney+ is not as good as Netflix, the delay of live action Snow White due to tension between Disney and the actress, Disneyland shut down some of their attractions, the price of stuffs at Disneyland get increased, etc.
Even WISH last time wasn't really impressive in my opinion.
It's sad to see the beloved brand for family going downhill with a lot of stuffs going on.

@Truegamer79 Have you tried asking about a gamecube hdmi converter on the Time Extension site forum? I don't know if that will get seen by more people that can recommend something? I think that nintendolife and TimeExtension have both had articles for a GC hdmi converter. Or you can use the contact page on Time Extension to ask what converters the staff use - maybe mention your price range you're aiming for.

@Anti-Matter I think the tv streaming bubble has been breaking, and that's been a trend across the market, including Netflix. I think tv streaming apps were probably keeping their prices artificially low in comarison to the cost of all the content they've been creating, on top of economic inflation.

As far as Disney parks go, I don't see it as permanent trouble for them. Since the park visitor numbers were down last summer, I think the economy is the main factor, which is a worldwide issue. When there are business slow-down trends at Disney Parks, that's usually the best time for them to shut down certain attractions for construction, refurbishment, upgrades, or creating new attractions. A big chunk of Epcot (Disney World Florida) was under construction for the past couple years (maybe still is).

Edit: Ever since I went to Disney World Florida (the bigger of the the two Disney parks in the US) back in 2017, I've wanted to go back ever since. I also went as a kid, too, when I was maybe 12-13 years old.

@CaleBoi25 I'm in a bit of game slump too. I was about 50% through Tears of the Kindom last summer, when I put it on hold, saving it for winter or the next lull in game releases. I resumed playing TOTK about 2-3 weeks ago, and it's really been hitting the spot. Although, I'm near the end now, and don't have anything new to play lined up for after. After TOTK, I'll probaly still be playing Salmon Run (or play some battles to earn faster xp for ranking up the catalog) - I really want to get the emote at level 63 and the Seafoam gear at level 90. I've also been playing ranked Rocket League again.

I think something's bound to get announced & released between now at June, although it will probably be a remake/port. I'm crossing my fingers for Zelda Wind Waker HD. Nintendo is also still sitting on Mario Galaxy 2.
