@ThanosReXXX No way! That’s really awesome, it must be a great place! I honestly did not see that particular coincidence coming, but hey, it ties in really nicely! Do you speak the language? I’ve heard it, and it sounds incredibly difficult. I knew several people who used to take Dutch classes in school. I asked them why they did so despite being Dutch, and they said it required a lot of practice. Mr Worldwide indeed! And as for the direct nature of the Dutch, I said it just now but I get along well with them mostly, because I’m also a very straight arrow, no nonsense type personality, obviously with a similar sense of humour too. Only thing stopping me from being Dutch is that I’ve never been, I don’t speak the language and I don’t have a Dutch passport. But really, that must be quite a life!

And I posted this just after your post on the community rules... and frankly I never read them when joining! Common sense dictated not to post like that though. Almost like an end user license agreement, but with much more common sense and intuition involved.

Edit 2. Just read through them, really clear and precise, allows for positive healthy discussion and debate, with lots of respect. Great!

@theJGG Well, I could give you the answer straight away, but I'll give you a small hint and you'll figure it out: you now already know that I moved out when I was around 9, and nowadays, I'm looking at half a century, so yeah... kinda handy to be able to get along with the locals in a more inconspicuous manner.

Most of them speak English quite well, though, so it wouldn't really be a problem, but I do always like to fit in wherever I am or go. I also speak German and French, albeit not entirely fluent, and besides that I can also manage relatively well in Spain or Denmark, although I'd call that "holiday level" speech. Entire conversations could possibly result in me drawing a blank....

Just out of curiosity, though: where does your fascination/interest in the Dutch come from?

Yeah, there's definitely a lot more toxicity on social media than anywhere else. If most sites had (even half of) the civilness/politeness that Nintendo Life has, the internet would definitely be a better place.
I know that Facebook and Twitter have been cracking down on fake news recently, but I feel like they could be doing more.
I know that Tyranexx isn't a guy, but thanks for letting me know anyways. Whenever I say something like "you guys", "guys", "dude", etc., I mean it as a general statement, just wanted to let you know.

I don't usually listen to hip-hop, although I did like it. I like songs that tend to have more of a beat to them.

@theJGG Concerning those community rules: yep, they're actually pretty lenient, and in my view also take just a couple of minutes to read, to potentially save you from a world of trouble. And if I'm not mistaken, you're actually presented with them when you first join, so you have every opportunity to browse through them.

In the past, people posting/advertising their own videos would immediately receive a warning, so better to hear it from a fellow member than from an admin, I'd say.

@SM3DASislit Yeah, my bad, but I already posted it, and decided to leave it, instead of edit it out. I kinda already figured you used "guys" in a more colloquial manner. Much like how I always address my co-workers as ""people" instead of as "ladies & gentlemen". I sometimes do, when I'm feeling particularly nice and forgiving, but in general, there's few gentlemen at the office, and not many women over there are particularly lady-like... (more like tomboys or trailer you-know-whats)

@ThanosReXXX I’ve lived in nine countries, all over the world. I lived in Paris for a while then I spent three years in Eastern Africa, and I’ve met a handful of Dutch people, both male and female, along the way. Apart from my given reasons, I still have no clue why I get along with them so well. I formed some nice friendships out of those too.

And second (but less as big a reason as the first) being a Formula One fan you tend to notice the Dutch crowd a lot. Whether it’s the sea of orange in the grandstands to the orange microphones of the Dutch sports channel, they’re there! I’m not a Max Verstappen fan at all, I dislike his almost arrogant attitude, combined with an almost insatiable temper. Asked SM3DASislit but he/she ain’t a fan... but I don’t know if you are so I’ll ask anyways, do you watch or follow F1?

But glad to know that you actually live there! And speaking all the local languages too? You’ve pretty much mastered Europe! I learnt French whilst living in France when I was younger. I picked up the language, and within two years I could go to shops, order food, order bus tickets, and do almost anything. Spanish... not so much. For one year I learnt both at the same time, and it was a complete disaster, I was switching the two, getting confused... never doing that again!

@SM3DASislit I’m sorry, I didn’t get the joke! But hey, at least I learnt one thing today that didn’t come from watching a daily episode of The Chase! With each episode I feel that I could go in and challenge for the win. Some questions are left field and completely silly, but others are tough!

@SM3DASislit Thanks for the feedback. The blur effect is partly intentional, as I knew beforehand it would be blurry quality to begin with so I based the concept around it. This one won't come out in English, no. We did do a couple of English songs but Dutch suit us better.

@theJGG From what you've told me so far, it would seem to me that you've found like minds, because you appreciate their candor, being relatively straight-forward yourself as well. I've always found living and talking to people over here very liberating. And then I chose to live in Amsterdam as well, which is pretty much one of the three cities in the Netherlands where THE most direct Dutch people live...

And no, I don't like or follow F1 racing. I also dislike Verstappen. His behavior is actually a 1:1 copy of his father's, with the main difference being that he's actually very successful, where his father was not.
But having said that, part of the perceived "arrogance" is also part what makes the Dutch what they are, which besides being VERY direct, is also about not being afraid to speak up or advertise their skills/expertise. In general, you learn over here that it's okay to speak your mind, and to be proud of what you're able to do or what you know. Within the confines of common, local decency, obviously, so be proud, but don't brag or go over the top with it.

To illustrate that frame of mind, there's an infamous Dutch saying which, loosely translated, goes like this: "just act normal, that's already crazy enough".

@SM3DASislit The money saved from sales is indeed a silver lining to my approach. I do get occasional FOMO, but for the most part that's something I've tempered down a bit.

Also, no offense taken on uses such as "You guys", "Dude", etc. It's something I'm used to in some of my own circles.

@Heavyarms55 I'm actually pretty good about keeping any expletives on the DL when out in public, but when I'm alone...hoo boy lol. I'm trying to get better about not doing that, but they kinda sneak out. I'm usually not even that angry.

I've had phone slowdown in those conditions too. My phone's an older unlocked Moto X4 I bought off Amazon over two years ago. Cheaper than most expensive as heck, top-of-the-line flagships. It's served me well, but the battery life is starting to dwindle and the RAM isn't quite up to task anymore. I learned I can't submit stops with it as PoGo transfers directly to the camera and not the camera roll. The former takes up a lot of resources on my phone, to the point where I can't run anything else too beefy (like most games) at the same time.

@BruceCM I know they can be bought easily enough, and there are plenty of open source resources. Still, I'd like to see how far I can get making my own models and textures.

@Tyranexx Speaking of Pokestop scanning... am I the only one who hates that feature? I feel like an absolute creep doing that. I wish I could completely disable it so it never pops up, but I messed with settings and they still pop up. :/

I am pretty good at keeping my vulgarity in check around kids because I worked as a teacher before COVID and unwanted trans-Pacific moves. But I can get really vulgar if no children are around. XD

I tend to have the "flagship phone" from like 2-4 years before the current big new phone. I'd still be using Galaxy S8 that I bought in Japan if Verizon had actually be willing to let me put in a new sim card. (everything I've read online says it should have worked fine but Verizon said it was no good.) But I don't mind them otherwise, much better than Sprint in this neighborhood in terms of reception. My mom used to have Sprint here and basically couldn't use her phone for calls because the signal faded in and out that much. I have the S10 now, and I think that's the newest phone, relative to its release, that I've ever had. I got a discount on it because the S20 was just released. (Also, Apple went from 8 to 10, MS went from 8 to 10, and Samsung went from 10 to 20. Why number things?)

@ThanosReXXX I realise that Max and Jos' so called 'arrogance' is more likely a result of their being Dutch than a legitimate flaw in their DNA. And having said that it might come across strange to like the Dutch' straightforward nature, only to double back and dislike Max for his bluntness. At times it's almost like some invisible force is stopping him from speaking his mind, even if that means insulting someone or threatening them. He once said in a press conference "I can't comment on that (an incident on track), except that he was being a [explicit]." In another one a few years back he threatened to headbutt a journalist because he was "annoyed" by constant questions. Yes, he has calmed down a bit, but as is usually the case, and to quote Luke Skywalker,

@Tyranexx Yeah I did notice that she has slightly lower HP than the other characters. Basically I've been using her elemental spells a lot and I was able to take down level 30 enemies just fine. My characters are like level 37 or 38. Haven't challenged that boss to a rematch yet though.

@WaveWitch I don't know, honestly. Sega seems to be content with continually rereleasing their Genesis games. Would be cool if they would make Sega CD and 32X games as bonus features for a future compilation though, as well as a collection of Saturn and Dreamcast games.

@MarioLover92 Never managed to make Dunban work as an evasion tank but this applies to him and Melia; it doesn't matter if you have low HP if you're never targeted! Whenever I play as Melia attracting enemy aggro is very difficult, even if she causes the most damage of the party. In the mid to late game you'll acquire some gear that has a massive HP Up IV gem on, and I always equip it to Sharla or Melia.

I kinda build Shulk as a conventional tank, because my attacks attract aggro easily. I read the tips in DE and realised I'd been playing the game wrong for four years!

@theJGG Haha, yeah, I do remember those instances. Even if I don't follow F1 like a madman, these kinds of incidents do tend to pop up in popular news shows as well, so we usually do get the gist of them. What it sounds to me like is a typical Dutch guy straining his brain (and struggling) under the duress of media training. He KNOWS how to behave in front of a camera, but like you said, if it's the nature of the beast, then some of it is bound to seep through regardless...

Okay. I was originally unsure if I was going to put it in because I wasn't if you would get it, as Mean Girls is more of a cult-classic (IMO), but I decided to do it anyways. At least you're still learning stuff each day though. Oh yeah, The Chase. It was mentioned in an article on Nintendo Life recently because someone on the show said Wario instead of Bowser as the answer to the Nintendo question.

I’m not sure, TBH. I know that SEGA said that they still want to bring their retro titles to (at least) Switch, so hopefully, we’ll see something soon. It would be cool if they did SEGA Saturn and Dreamcast collections as well.
In case you didn’t know, the SEGA AGES line ended a month (or two) ago.

@SM3DASislit It’s the British one. I saw that footage from the American one and it just isn’t the same without Bradley Walsh. Charismatic, intelligent, gentleman-ly and a complete savage. One episode I watched yesterday in on re run ended with the Chaser winning the game by scoring the final point with a quarter of a second on the clock. £13K gone just like that!
