@Heavyarms55 Sounds like a pretty decent one! I have a coworker who built an insane rig, all for programming, video editing, and live streaming. I'm thinking of building my own down the line for some rendering and light gaming on the side. ...But that's a ways off yet.

@NintendoByNature Lol, I doubt I'm halfway through yet, partially because I've already redone a couple of sections just to get better scores...once I figured out what I needed to do. Love the writing so far, not sure what to think about the controls yet. Been playing in docked mode.

@Ninfan I had the wrong power supply. Japan is 100 but the US is 120. The old one was a Japanese supply.

@Tyranexx well it just wasn't worth the cost of shipping my 8 year old PC overseas again, so instead of getting some cheap rig that'll last 2 years tops I wanted another machine that'll last me 8+ years.

Arlo... I don’t watch him. He appears on my suggested lots. I already watch lots of gaming channels and I don’t need a muppet one.

Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.

@BabyYoshi12 Arlo's become pretty annoying in recent years honestly. His Twitter posts about being butthurt about how underwhelmed he is about recent Nintendo Directs got really tiring to see and I just unfollowed him as a result. He's not afraid to tell you how much he hates anime lmao

@Tyranexx Yeah - we didn't have the original Star Fox back when the SNES was a current-gen console, so it did feel a little weird when I first played it, with its super-old-school polygonal graphics and choppy framerate. (FYI, SF64 was the first one I played) But yeah, the game looked amazing at the time, and that was released a year before DKC! I do think SF1 is a pretty good game, but SF64 is even better. It pretty much improves on everything the original game did and then some.

yeah I watched one of his vids and he is so stinking annoying. He rants about everything, makes terrible jokes, and stretches his vids so long it becomes boring. Def one of the worst gaming channels out there.

I ran across Arlo at some point, but I couldn't really stand to watch much of that channel. Not that I dislike muppets by any means (as I normally love them), but I just found it all annoying. I don't watch a lot of YouTubers in general these days.

@Heavyarms55 I totally get that thinking; building something that will last, while expensive up front, is definitely cost-effective in the long run. I don't know how many times I've tried to dissuade people from buying those cheap doorbuster laptops that often show up around the holidays. I try to give advice based on what people want to do with a system, and more often than not they don't need anything too crazy. But I also want them to get a machine that won't crap out or severely slow down in only a year or two.

@MarioLover92 From what I've read/heard, SF 64 is also basically another take on the plot of the first game. Just better lol.

Pretty much all the SNES games I had access to back in the day were platformers; we didn't own the system - it belonged to relatives, but I was over there a lot as my aunt babysat me - and there weren't a ton of games. But many of them were decent: Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars (I played these first and didn't realize until years later that the rest of the Marios after the original Super Mario Bros. were originally on the NES; they really cleaned them up!), Toy Story, and the original Donkey Kong Country were frequent staples. Then there was one of those "meh" edutainment games. Not sure if you've heard of Captain Novolin? XD

I love arlo’s channel. He’s a funny character

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

Heavyarms55

@Tyranexx yeah exactly. I paid a lot for my previous machine too. But I used it hard-core for 8 years. That thing had to have 10k+ hours of use over the years.

@Tyranexx That's funny - believe it or not, Super Mario All-Stars was my first exposure to SMB1-3! The SNES was the only console we had in much of the early 90s, plus by the time I was born, the SNES wasn't even close to reaching its 1-year anniversary here in the states. Back then, we had stuff like Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, F-Zero, the Donkey Kong Country series, Yoshi's Island, and yes, even a few sports games (that I didn't get into, but my dad did since he was a big sports guy. lol) As for Captain Novolin, yes I've heard of it from Seanbaby and a handful of YouTube videos way back in the late 2000s. Looks like such a masterpiece, doesn't it? (Okay, I'm lying. XD) I did have a similar experience with you too, but with the Genesis instead. Loved playing the Sonic games for the first time.

So my old PC had two HDDs. Whenever I booted that thing up, between those and its fan, it was a loud boy. I just got used to it because it was a nice machine that lasted me a good solid 8 years of heavy use.

My new PC has a solid state and low sound fans and is basically silent after the little click of the power button, it's pretty cool!

@Heavyarms55 8+ years is definitely amaxing for a PC! I think the average is still 3-4 years. Especially since a lot of pre-built machines (depending on where they're from) increasingly have everything soldered to the board. Instead of simply swapping out a piece of something, more often than not people just have to swallow the cost of a new machine.

SSDs are amazing. It's so nice not putting up with the extra HDD noise, and they're faster too.

@MarioLover92 Ironically, I think my first exposure to the original Super Mario Bros. was the original NES cartridge; I had a different set of cousins with a NES, and my earliest gaming memory is playing the SMB/Duck Hunt cartridge. Thosr are the only ones I recall playing on that system; ports aside, I've played other NES games since, but mostly through the Virtual Console. I sometimes wish the relatives with the SNES had had more game variety, but what they had was decent as a whole.

...Other than Captain Novolin. XD I'm positive the only reason they even had that game was due to the fact that two of my cousins have type 1 diabetes, so my guess is it was a well-meant gift at some point to educate them about their condition. Man that game was weird lol.

I had some Sega Genesis exposure too via a different babysitter when my aunt wasn't available. There was more of a genre selection, but surprisingly no Sonic lol. I recall a Jurassic Park game (loved playing as a Velociraptor, don't recall the exact title), The Lion King, Aladdin, a port of Paperboy, and some sort of racing game which I think might've been OutRun, but I'm really not sure. Still need to research the soundtrack to see if it's for sure what I remember.

@Tyranexx yeah I copied over my music and pictures from my external drive to and it was like 3 maybe 4 times as fast as it was when I backed them up to the external. It's nice that I was able to save the majority of my approximately 15000 images that I use for desktop wallpapers.

Zuljaras

I need some expert advice on Sega console!

I ordered this console and the seller claim it is authentic!

Untitled

It should arrive Tuesday.

It seems very legit just looking at it but on the back I see that the "Patents" text is a little bit too long compared to some other Mega Drive 2s. I looked around on eBay and saw that some have the longer text and some have shorter (4 rows this one has 6 rows). It just includes more countries to contact.

So anyone here expert on Mega Drive 2?

I know that @ThanosReXXX loves Sega so I have hope!

Anyone else feel free to add your points.

MarioVillager92

@Tyranexx Yeah I do remember the NES version as well, my grandmother had it (it was the SMB/Duck Hunt combo cart as well) and a slew of other games in her house too. It is indeed surprising there was no Sonic when you played the Genesis - Sonic 1 and 2 were its best-sellers at the time! I do know many people got it for sports games (like NHL 94 - I heard many good things about that one and my dad had that for SNES, too), as well.

@Zuljaras Hmm. I do think your Mega Drive is real, it looks JUST like its second model in Europe, red buttons and all. Maybe it was sold from a different European country? Just a thought.
