Topic: NO CREDIT CARD !!!

As of September 2019, credit cards cannot be used to add funds on systems in the Nintendo

3DS family or Wii U consoles.

I assume you will still be able to add debit and credit card funds using a switch as a middle man

I buy Eshop cards off Raise and/or Ebay. I save an average of 15% to 20% everytime i decide to buy. I would recommend doing this to everybody.

They informed you can add money through Nintendo's website via credit card or PayPal and use it on 3DS. And both 3DS and Wii U have a browser if you don't have any other ways to access the website. In other words, nothing really changed.

Can anyone think of a reason why on earth they would do this? (Also, probably worth pointing out this only applies to Europe as far as we know)

Edit: Apparently there's some new law in Europe that will require online purchases to use 2FA, so I guess Nintendo can't implement that on 3DS and Wii U easily. People are also saying debit cards will be unaffected, but I'm not sure whether that's true. Either way, this shouldn't affect anywhere outside Europe and it's probably not a sign of the 3DS and Wii U eShops' impeding doom.

Perhaps doing this will let them save some money on some background security features or something?

Either it's easier for them, it makes/saves them more money, or it's a law thing. Really can only be one of those imo. Not the end of the world

I hate paypal, I tried it and the account I made bugged out and I can't do anything with it anymore. Says that it requires very personal information for me to use anymore....yeah, no thanks.

@Joeynator3000 Really? Been using it for well over 10 years and never had one single problem, so it kinda sounds like you just ran into a bit of bad luck.

And what kind of very personal information? Other than your name, bank account and email address, and perhaps your address and phone number, I couldn't think of anything else that they might need from you.

And those things are pretty bog standard for any financial service. Heck, except for my bank account number, I've used pretty much most of the other data for my LinkedIn account as well, so I never have any issues with giving up that kind of information, as long as the platform that I give it to, is trustworthy enough.

Stuff like photo id and SSD....THAT stuff. Not only that but I'm not allowed to do anything with that account until I send them that...can't even delete the account.

I don't know what I did that caused this, but I'm not bothering with it anymore.

@Joeynator3000 Hm, that's weird. Doesn't sound like PayPal at all. If I may give some friendly advise: if you haven't done so already, why not contact PayPal's service desk and/or send them an email trying to find out what the heck went wrong, and why you have to send in that kind of information. I certainly never had to, so far as I know, that certainly isn't mandatory, unless they changed the terms and conditions.

But then again: that should mean that I would now also have to add that additional info to my account, and seeing as I never had to, that kind of makes it obvious to me that something else entirely is happening on your end.

It's a shame that you've had such a bad experience with them, though. Their service is second to none, and it's so handy in so many ways. Ever since I said goodbye to my credit cards, I've been completely satisfied with having PayPal as a replacement for that.

And one additional bonus is that you don't have to worry about having a credit card-sized debt on your PayPal account, because you'll only ever be able to fall behind for one single purchase or amount, which has to be replenished within the space of a couple of weeks.

Eh, I'm honestly not gonna worry about it, I feel like I don't really need it. Also, I don't have a credit card, just a debit, lol

@Joeynator3000 I was speaking in general terms. I understand that not everybody has credit cards, or is looking for a replacement for them, but fair enough.

@ThanosReXXX Dont use paypal, it stinks, it demands too much data about you. Just top-up your Switch account and voila.

@premko1 It's not nearly as bad as you seem to think it is. I've been using it for more than 10 years (and to my complete satisfaction as well, I might add), never had a problem. And it doesn't require any more data than a credit card/debit card or bank account would, so basically it's just your bog standard secured financial service.

PayPal is great, it has a added buyer protection on top of your own debit card. Also the customer service is great and contacting them is easy.

@ThanosReXXX i`m almost 40, so I dont trust companies that have my credit card data.
