@Eel I think the lion was super fun to draw, the mane especially, and for the way I drew the fur on that, I kind of was inspired by that Pretztail drawing I shared months ago. I had a hard time drawing the weasel though, since the hands looked weird at first and I was freaking out over how they looked. I’ll also admit I think I could have done a better job making the squirrel on top look better. I should have colored it yellow or pink instead.
@Mana_Knight Thank you! I really like drawing him a lot, and I have been imagining drawing him in my new art style. I still want to draw him more soon after I get some original drawings finished. I am thinking of redrawing another scene or picture from the game…there are way more characters from that game I want to draw a lot.
@Zuljaras That’s really cool. I used to sometimes draw on toned paper in the past with some graphic and colored pencils, but I donated the sketchbook I had since I didn’t use it. I also saw you got Sakura Gelly Roll pens! I’ve liked using the white ones for my marker art in the past, but now I use the bright Moonlight pens they have. I find that Sakura’s gels pens are nice and bright.

@Zuljaras that’s a coincidence, cuz I also sometimes use Pigma Micron pens in my art too.
I did use markers a bunch in the past, but now I only use them in my art when I don’t have a good pen color or to serve as a base color for a large area since coloring big areas in pen is time consuming.
Usually I just use ballpoint pens I got at the dollar store to draw and color, and they are pretty good quality and you can get some nice artwork and results with them, but I have gotten duds sometimes. One time I bought a 5-color pen set and one pen was completely dead despite having ink in it, and while the rest of the pens worked, they sometimes have their tips get clogged even when I’m not using them and they have their caps on, so I always have to scribble until some ink gets on the paper.
Not sure if it’s just me being weird, but I’m sure the ballpoint pen art also smells good. 🧐
Speaking of gouache, the scrawlrbox I received yesterday came with some gouache paint tubes. It’s my first time using them so I basically ended up using it just like watercolor which I feel might be the wrong approach…
Anyway the prompt of the box was “Mythical Monsters”, so I ended up doodling a Mew.
Micron pens are great, but I learned the hard way that they are not intended to be used to ink backgrounds. Had to buy another pack of them because I kept using mine on backgrounds for my still-lifes due to liking the texture they make. Little did I know that I was supposed to either used the ink I bought- or the sharpies instead.

@Zuljaras I was inspired to use ballpoint pens from an artist I follow on Instagram. The way the person used pens and made colorful artwork was cool! The pens that they use are different from mine though. I saw that they kind of use Pilot pens, but I use inexpensive ones at Dollar Tree from two brands called Inc and Promarx. The Promarx pens are worser quality though, but I found that pens do a very good job with drawing small details and fur a lot.
@Eel I didn’t know you got a Scrawlrbox. I heard of those because a YouTuber I used to watch made a ton of videos on that and she sometimes got cool and wacky art supplies. I recall that they came with a small piece of candy too. Your art looks cool!

I really like them; they come with varied art supplies at a fair price, and although the deliveries are slow in my country (I usually receive them the month after they’re shipped), it’s been very reliable (and they are also very understanding when the rare package gets lost and send a new one).
And your approach is not wrong. Gouache is watercolor that can be opaque. You can dilute it as much as you want and draw.
The benefit of gouache is that you can work from dark to light and from light to dark. With watercolor if you want white you have to leave the paper unpainted because you can't layer light paint on top of dark one
I am swamped with projects for my drawing and design class- and the end of the semester is next week. Got three drawing class assignments I need to work on, and a design class one that I have no clue what I’m doing on. Can’t wait for the semester to end so I can work on fun projects again.

@Eel From what I saw in those many Scrawlbox videos, they seem to have a really good selection of art supplies and sometimes random ones. Plus, some people get super creative with how they use the materials they get in those boxes. The most common supplies I saw in those art mystery box videos were markers (either alcohol-based or water-based) and unique colored pencils. I always watched the Scrawlrbox videos with markers since I was super into using markers in my art back then.
I haven’t ever been subscribed to an art mystery box, but it seems fun. I usually do not do art challenges at all or try to limit the supplies I use to see what I can make under such rules.
@Eel I see! I will probably search up what art materials they have previously been selling in the surprise boxes. Markers did seem like a very popular item a few years ago.
