Watched Kung Fu Panda 2 last night on Peacock, and Netflix has Kung Fu Panda 3. Looks like I'm going through the series again, even though I'm not able to see the new movie while it's in theaters. It's been awhile since I've watched these movies.
Will probably watch Kung Fu Panda 3 during the week, just to have a break from watching a movie tonight.
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
Wasn't able to see the ceremony live, but glad to see Oppenheimer clean up. Probably the best thing I saw in the theatre last year, and it's cool to say that I've seen a best picture winner during it's theatrical run.
Also super glad to see Godzilla Minus One pick up the VFX award. I was hoping either it or the Creator would take it home given that they managed to craft stunning worlds with a fraction of the budget blockbusters tend to carry, so that's pretty awesome.
Definitely need to get around to seeing the Boy & the Heron as well. I honestly thought Across the Spider-Verse was one of the best films I watched last year so I was rooting for it, but I won't begrudge a Ghibli win.

@RR529 The problem with the Oscars is people lose sight of what they are really about. There is so much bickering about the movie they liked didn't win the bestest Oscars so it's all corporate movies when what really matters is who wore the best frock and clearly it was this lovely pink number!
Some recent movies. Kung Fu Panda 3 on Netflix to finish out the trilogy. I don't think I'm going to make it to Kung Fu Panda 4 in theaters, but it felt good revisiting the first three movies. Watched 9 to 5 on Peacock last night, don't think I ever seen this one aside from one scene, it was good. Mom wanted to watch it. Tonight, Trolls Band Together on Peacock, enjoyed watching last year's favorite again.
@CaleBoi25 Been awhile since I've watched Mitchell's vs. The Machines, great movie!

Dune: Part Two (Cinema) - Took a bit to really get going (it definitely expects more from you than something like Star Wars or Avatar), but once it hit it's stide and started paying off it was excellent. By far the best thing I've seen in theaters so far this year, and I think it's going to be a high bar to clear.
Spring Break (Tubi) - 80's comedy about college kids partying in Fort Lauderdale, Florida during spring break. Not particularly notable, but fun if you like these kinds of 80's comedies.
Stand by Me (Blu-Ray) - Another thrift pick up. Pretty much the quintessential coming of age film, at least for boys, IMO. No matter how many times I watch it the train scene always makes me so anxious, and the great Superman vs Mighty Mouse debate reminds me of the similar debates me & my friends had at that age (although there was a lot more DBZ involved for us, lol).

This Friday Iβm going to see βLucaβ and βThe Boy and the Heronβ (English), then Tuesday Iβll see βLucaβ and βGhostbusters: Frozen Empireβ.
Lots of interesting stuff coming out this spring. For the rest of this month I might try to see Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, but will probably give priority to Godzilla X Kong, especially since our theatre is showing it in 3D.
If I don't get to Ghostbusters this month I may try it in April, but Civil War also releases that month & it looks really interesting.
In May I'll probably see Garfield (probably the only cartoon I'll see in theaters this year), and I think the new Planet of the Apes comes out then too.
@Rambler, admittedly I've never read the book(s) or saw the 80's film adaptation. Just saw the 2021 film on Netflix last autumn & really enjoyed it. I've definitely heard of the book, though I don't think I've seen it discussed nearly as much as something like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter.

@Rambler I've seen the David Lynch Dune and part 1 of the newer one. And while I think the story was easier to follow in the new film, and it has some nice visuals, I think I still prefer Lynch's film. It just has a quirky, surreal strangeness, that makes for a more interesting watch. A perfect example of this is the contrast between the different interpretations of Baron Harkkonen. He's just so over the top ridiculous in the Lynch version, and comparatively dull in Dune 2021. Also Dune '84 has that awesome Toto soundtrack going for it.
@Rambler Glad to hear Dune part 2 is an improvement! I will post back here with my thoughts whenever I get around to seeing it.
I do need to get around to reading the books as well. I had an old friend who would talk endlessly about them, he was a bit obsessed with Paul Atreides, his name being Paul and all haha.
I have an H.R. Giger art book, that includes a bunch of the concept art he did for the Jodorowsky version, some really incredible stuff. I can only imagine what the finished film would've been like.
Besides watching House on Haunted Hill remake on Tubi along with Cheech and Chong's Corsican Brothers movie, Im also binging through the last few episodes of Babylon 5 Season 2. the beginning of the Shadows
