Firefly was amazing. I love the Wild West and I love it even more when it's combined with science fiction. Too bad it got cancelled. That was a really bad move, honestly.

I've honestly never watched a straight up western. XD Despite that, I absolutely love westerns with other genres mixed in almost all the time. Yeah, it makes me sad whenever I think about it being canceled so early...But, at least it got that fabulous movie to cap it off, most canceled shows never get that. The movie wrapped things up in a hugely satisfying way for me.

Speaking of westerns and movies, have you seen The Good, The Bad, The Weird? It's AMAZING. It's a western with a style and humor very similar to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, I think you'd like it. At the very least watch the opening train scene.

Firefly? I've never seen that. What's it about?

Picture a cool version of Star Trek mixed with a Western. Just watch it, it's only thirteen episodes and I've yet to meet anyone who didn't like it.

Firefly rules. Ruled. Whatever. Watch all of it right now, it's only one season. Go. Now.

Also, Cowboys & Aliens looks to be absolutely full of awesome.

Sweet, I hope you like it! =D It's on Netflix instant stream, too.

Super 8, to me, looks like this generations ET.

Ohhhhhh! ET eh? But in the trailer that aired durning the Super Bowl earlier this year from what I got to see in the short second glimpse of the subject it looked as if there was man in a suit similar to that of Superman but it was designed a lot more like Captain America's uniform. Is the alien more human looking than alien?

The set-up for Super 8 (from what i've read) is that some kids are making a homemade monster movie, they are out filming, and then ... something happens. Abrams is trying to keep a tight lid on details for the time being, obviously to build anticipation and such. The speculation/rumors are that they encounter an alien that crashes on earth and there's government-types involved ... very ET-ish. But regardless of the specific details, it's supposed to have an ET-style vibe/feel, in that it's a story that focuses primarily from the kids' point of view.

Thanks man! That sounds epic. I'm really looking forward to it then. I guess we still won't be see the next Star Trek from Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman until 2013.

EDIT Again: Holy crap, I never heard of the Barsoom series, I should grab a copy of the first book someday.

LOL MickeyMac...you lost me there a little bit. Are you talking about the law and order BBC show 'Walking on Mars'?

The show's backdoor pilot premiers tomorrow night on Cartoon Network. More info can be found at this site: http://www.wired.com/underwire/2011/07/thundercats-cartoon-ne...

Mickeymac, here is a link to info regarding the new Gundam 3DS game and a United Kingdom release date: http://www.3dsbuzz.com/gundam-3ds-uk-release-date-confusion/

You can see the trailer for the Gundam 3DS game here http://www.tuppencemagazine.co.uk/gundam_3ds.html

So it really is confirmed now? Man, too bad the 3DS is region locked, I'd totally get that. I loves Gundam, amd that actually looks like a fun game.

Speaking of Gundam, I recently start watching the original again. This show never get's old, and it's a good thing, too, since it's being remade sometime next year and I'll be rewatching it 3 Times over.

I'm also rewatching Gundam Wing in on CrunchyRoll. I always felt this show brought something very unique to the Gundam franchise that I could never quite put my finger on. The coolness also went way up watching it in Japanese, the voice actors do a much better job conveying the right emotions.

As for Shows I'm watching for the first time, there's After War Gundam X. It's supposedly got the lowest rating of any Gundam show and it's generally ignored by fans, which is a major shame since it's a fantastic show! It's hit all the right notes so far: The story is emotional and interesting - every little arc has been very well done; the characters have a lot of depth and personality with some really good dialogue; the action is intense without being too full of explosions. Oh, and the music and art are pretty good, too, though I'm not too fond of the Mecha designs. Really, it's a shame that it'll probably be the last Gundam show they'll choose to release in the US, with crap like Victory Gundam and Turn A Gundam being picked over it. That's if it ever get's localized, of course.

As for books, I'm reading A Princess of Mars, which relates to the John Carter movie. It's been a very interesting read so far, though how he gets to Mars will likely be different in the movie.

I realize this thread is predominantly about cartoons and movies, but if any of you are sci-fi readers, too, please chime in:

I'm in a sci-fi book club right now and could use some recommendations. So far we have read Dune, The Dying Earth, Guards! Guards!, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and are about to read Roadside Picnic (by the Strugatsky brothers). Fantasy is allowed, though we try to stick mostly to sci-fi. After the last two books, I'm tired of sci-fi comedy and would like to suggest something more serious and cerebral.

I've read a lot of sci-fi myself, but mostly in the form of long series, which I'd rather avoid. Picking a random Star Wars book would suit me, for example, but someone not into Star Wars would probably not get it.

On another topic: I would like to echo the sentiment that Firefly is awesome. I liked the movie Serenity, too.

So I understand Darth Maul did not really die at the end of Episode 1 and will return in The Clone Wars TV show. You can say about that film whatever you want, but Darth Maul was a kick-ass villain.

Darth Maul was cool, but wasn't he cut in half and knocked down some super long shaft whose bottom wasn't even visible from the top? Because I seem to remember him being cut in half and knocked down some super long shaft whose bottom wasn't even visible from the top.
