Hey all! Was there ever a video game scene where you felt emotional? Emotional can mean, frustrated, sad, happy, or fear. I'm not very emotional, but the end of Superliminal got me. I was going through a rough time and that motivation was just what I needed. How about you?
Emotional like when you become fiery rage because the game cheats so you throw the controller as hard as you can at the wall whilst screaming the most vulgar words you can think of?
I play a lot of VNs and get pretty invested in them so they get me here and there. Most recently Little Busters! which I'm getting towards the end of at the moment and the one that got to me the most was definitely Clannad.
My dad died in March, and then in May, the day my dean informed me that I had passed my Ph.D. exams, I was playing Figment to celebrate. I found a memory in which my character's mom said, "Congratulations on your degree! Your father would have been so proud of you!" I completely lost it.

@Xyphon22
That sounds like a very powerful moment. My condolences.
The first Life is Strange and the Prequel got me going & The Last of Us part 2 was the game that most involved me in the characters emotions and got me really invested in them. I actually felt the stress of the characters and was emotionally exhastued at times but really enjoyed it
The Champion’s Ballad DLC finale for Zelda:Breath of the Wild. Easily the saddest any game has made me feel. I think Iwata’s death had a lot to do with where they decided to take the story.
Metal Gear Solid
basically changed my life Metal Gear Solid 4
Old Snake at the Graveyard. There was one trailer that ended on Snake putting a gun in his mouth, camera going up to the sky and you hear a shot. I was close to screaming at the monitor, cause I thought my hero killed himself. Metal Gear Solid V
especially mission 43 and the ending but also the extra Paz missions
Ok I'm not gonna just complain about the thread like every thread that has the word "overrated" in it, but it does bother me that it seems like emotional HAS to mean "made you sad". Beating all of Rayman Origins with a friend in one day was a pretty emotional day at the end, trying and failing at its toughest levels constantly before finally getting through them was a fantastic feeling. And while I love Celeste's sadder elements, its really the triumph and struggle of levels 6 and 7 that made it so powerful. Or the feelings of horror and disgust I feel for a lot of what happens in Columbia in Bioshock Infinite.
But that being said, Fragile Dreams and Mother 3 are usually what I go towards for really effective sadness in a game. Though for Mother 3 its more heartbreaking and immediate and for Fragile Dreams its a bit of that but more a hopeless, slow, depressing type of sad. Though weirdly, the one game that made me cry was Lost Odyssey, which I would not describe as a sad game.
I still remember the first game i ever got emotional over. I guess since it's so old it wont matter if i spoil it but that game was Ninja Gaiden 2 on Nes. The ending part where Irene basically dies in Ryu's arms but then she's brought back to life by the dragon sword. As a kid playing that game it got to me. I was legit choked up by it. The cinematics in those games though rather quaint these days were pretty special in the 80's!
