Beat Cathedral (100%) today after beating it two days ago with only 96% - got the last items and beat the quite difficult but fun boss again. I am actually quite good at fighting him, now.

Loved it - even though I try to 100% a game I am not always able to do so and I am fine with it. But here I kinda felt compelled to load my last save game (so I didn't do a second run ) and find the rest. But I have to admit that I used an online guide to find the last 10 books because I really didn't want to check all the 692 rooms the world map is huge - I would say it is at least the size of Alwa's Awakening and Alwa's Legacy combined. But the map is really helpful and I never got lost. I disagree with most of the reviews that the game does a bad job to tell you where to go next. The controls are very responsive. Exploring every room is very rewarding and it is just fun to play. I actually had to force myself to go to sleep - I always want to check out just one more room. So I can highly recommend it even though my first impression wasn't that great. But after playing for a half plus hour I really loved it. One of my favorite metroidesque games.

Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale

A very charming yet brief (We're talking about 4 hours to get through almost everything) 3DS eShop game, part of Level-5's Guild02 series. It's sort of a lighthearted slice of life/coming-of-age light adventure game set in a rural part of Tokyo in the early 1970s. Every Friday, monsters appear in a field outside the town and fight it out!

The game puts players in the shoes of Sohta, a young boy of 10 who recently moved to the village with his parents to run a dry cleaning shop. Sent out on an errand on a Friday, he meets some of his classmates, who teach him how to play Monster Cards. Cards are gathered by collecting little balls of light in the game's environment called glims; collecting seven of the same type results in the player getting a new Monster Card. Playing the card game itself is very simple as it revolves around a rock/paper/scissors system. Visually, the 3D effect is used very well; this looks great for a 3DS game.

This game is easy to recommend for those who enjoy Studio Ghibli films, lighthearted adventure games in a Japanese setting, and/or those who just want a relaxing game to play before bedtime.

The World Ends With You: Final Remix

TWEWY: FR on the Switch is...an interesting game. Plot-wise, I really enjoyed following Neku and his friends as they played through Shibuya's Reaper's Game. There are some really powerful messages here which, IMO, would make me encourage any RPG fan to play at least some form of this game if they haven't already. Visually, the game looks great on both my TV screen and on the Switch's display. The music, both the original and remixed soundtracks, is really catchy for the most part and (usually) fits the scenes and/or characters it applies to. "Calling" is likely my favorite track!

In terms of gameplay...It's clear that the game originated on a different system. The controls are certainly passable, but handheld/touch screen is the way to go; there is no pro controller support, and using the joy-cons is...doable and can be adapted to. But the latter control scheme can really affect one's wrists. No spoilers here, but I also had a lot of trouble with one of the bosses due to a lack of clear instructions on the game's part; I actually found a Reddit thread with the same clueless people/complaints, so at least I wasn't alone. XD To the game's credit, there are (almost) no random encounters as long as one keeps their wits about them. I'm also not the biggest fan of the Brand system, but it is a unique system.

It's easy to recommend The World Ends With You: Final Remix to those who have never played the game and know what they're in for. As well as those who want the game on their Switch, like different RPGs, or just want the most "recent" version of the original game. As for everyone else....I've heard the DS version is still the way to go, though the control scheme in the original doesn't jive with everyone either. There's also the Solo Remix mobile port as an option as well.

Thanks! Helps that I've got the game on my wish list now. I'm definitely getting this soon, it's now in the queue! Shame about the lack of Pro controller support because I haven't used Joy-Cons unless the battery's dead or if I'm on handheld. Eh, nothing that'll kill me. Great review!

Aladdin on the Super Nintendo.
I just wanted to beat something in between the big Time Wasters.

What a nice Game.
Looks also really good on a CRT.

@TheJGG Thanks! My reviews used to be more long-winded, but...time. XD

The reason there's no pro controller support is related to the fact that they borrowed off the mechanics of the Solo Remix mobile port; pretty much everything is controlled by touch. The joy-con pointer controls are sort of a hybrid compromise. They're usable; I didn't really mind them during more relaxed play sessions, but they can really wear on your wrist during more frantic moments (boss fights or chain battles). You'll also have to recalibrate the pointer almost constantly if that's the route you pick.

@Tyranexx Oh boy... it's so weird to think that it doesn't support Pro Controller... and with the Pro Controller I've played games that use motion controls and it just sucks. Super Mario Galaxy is one, I can't keep track of the pointer and play at the same time. Breath of the Wild's motion controls are okay, if on handheld, or Wii U.

@TheJGG It isn't the first game I've had to use joycons on, but thankfully those moments are few. I don't mind them in handheld mode. But once I picked up a pro controller, I didn't want to go back. I erroneously thought it would be similar to using the joycon grip.

@Tyranexx I got the Pro Controller myself a bit later than I would have wanted, at the time the place I lived in had awful prices for imported… anything. A box of cereal from the US cost ten dollars, a physical copy of Breath of the Wild was a hundred, and no Pro Controllers in sight. It took a holiday to South Africa to finally get one. And my poor Joy-Cons… I only use them when I play on handheld… During my first week in that country, almost four years ago, I was conned into buying an Xbox magasine…. for $20. Never made that mistake ever again!

They need some love though. So TWEWYand Skyward Sword are very much appreciated. Time to drift some controllers…

@TheJGG Oof. Awful prices indeed. I don't blame you for waiting. In my case, I'm not one to get a ton of accessories until I deem they're worth the investment and within my budget. Love my pro controller, never going back. We'll see how long before the drifting shows up. XD

@Tyranexx Haven't gotten a single episode of drift in the three years I've had my own Pro Controller! And even on Joy-Cons it's not been game-breaking so far, and it hasn't even happened for weeks now. I've always been lucky with stuff like that, like with the Switch update that nerfed the eShop. Half of me is convinced that if I bought Cyberpunk 2077 I'd get no crashes! But I'll wait for a PS5 version, I'm not taking chances...

Trying to complete all the Metroid games before the new one comes and have currently beaten Zero Mission, Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime Hunters. Going to start Metroid Prime 2 Echoes this weekend hopefully.

Finished Metal Slug 5 on Switch a few days back, severely underrated stuff. Highly polished level design, cuts all the fluff from Slug 3 and 4 and only keeps the gameplay features, (being able to get big, only 4 of the slugs) some really cool bosses, an absolutely sick soundtrack, I think it deserves to be remembered for more than "the one with cool music and the slide". Fantastic game, appreciate the focus on pure gameplay (compared to say, 3 which cared more about being grand and wacky and all that). 6 Credit Clear, will definitely be practicing more. Then on to Metal Slug 6!

@TheJGG The only joycon "drift" I've dealt with so far was accidentally getting one of the two control stick caught on a blanket; easily fixed!

Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Heart of the Forest - This is a visual novel set in White Wolf's World of Darkness. It follows Maia, an American student, who is drawn to Białowieża Forest and the nearby village of the same name through both recurring dreams and ancestral ties to the area.

The player's choices do matter, and this makes for a very compelling narrative for the most part; different decisions can send the story in different directions, adding to replayability. I played through twice; the first on an intentionally pacifist route, the second a balance between both the pacifist and eco-terrorist extremes. I do, however, think the review here was pretty accurate; towards the last half or 2/3 of the game, everything feels a little more rushed. All told, one jaunt through the narrative takes about 3-4 hours depending on choices made and one's reading speed. For the most part, the narrative is woven together seamlessly, but there is the occasional blurb of text that seems a bit out of left field regarding the situation. To be fair, it IS hard to make a seamless narrative when there are so many choices.

This game is recommended for those who like White Wolf's World of Darkness universe, classic monsters, or a short visual novel to while away an evening or two with. Adrenaline junkies or those who fear words would do better elsewhere. It's not really one for the kids due to violence and language.

Recently beaten Bioforge, a classic DOS game developed by Origin Systems. Thanks to GOG, I've been playing on old PC games I missed out on as a Mac kid, and I really like this game.

The character you play as is part human, part cyborg, waking up on a base filled with enemies to fight, robots to avoid, and puzzles to solve all with the goal of escaping it. It reminds me of the classic Resident Evil games, from the presentation, right down to the chunky tank controls. Though, it's more of a sci-fi game than a horror one. There's plenty of logs that uncover the story, the happenings at the base, and the true intentions of it. I enjoyed my time with this one.

I beat Mother 3 for a 2nd time. Only took me nearly 13 years to replay it. :V

It is pretty much as good as I remember it being...well mostly. Mother 3 blew me away to such a degree when I first played it, that technically there was no chance that a 2nd playthrough would live up to it. But OUTSIDE OF THAT, its still a masterpiece. It's funny that Nintendo is so known for not being focused on story, and yet have made possibly my two favorite games from a story perspective (this and Majora's Mask).

It's also funny that we now live in a world where Famicom Detective Club beat Mother 3 to getting localized, now that I think about it.

I don't play that much at the moment, but a game I recently bought, played and finished was Alwa's legacy. Lovely game, though a bit easier then the first one (I haven't beaten the first one yet).
