I'm not a fan of Zendaya's portrayal of Chani. She's suppose to be Paul's biggest champion, not a xenophobic "you're my people but not our people, Paul" roadblock. Aside from that everything else here feels more accurate to the book than Lynch's Dune. And Villenueve's cinematic flair and set design make everything pop.
If you enjoy science fiction, it's a must-watch.

My top three from this year (Caveat that I still haven't seen some other recent releases like Nosferatu or Sonic 3):
1. Conclave. Ralph Fiennes, already one of the greatest actors of all time, kills it in this mystery thriller about the secretive conclave to choose a new pope. Visually very beautiful, the themes and the writing were fantastic, and the acting was world class. Big recommend.
2. Anora. This one squeaked in for me at the last minute, but I really liked it. Amazing performance from Mikey Miles, lots of Russian and European actors who I wasn't familiar with but who also give wonderful performances. A really funny and earnest look at what life is like for certain types of people, and kind of an anti-romance at the end of the day. Strong sexual content in this one, which is no problem for me but I know is bothersome for some.
3. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Totally different from its predecessor but nevertheless fleshes out the world in interesting and essential ways. Slower paced, but still plenty of full-tilt action sequences. Chris Hemsworth was mesmerizing with his prosthetic nose and the nasally accent he's doing. Certain scenes were so engaging that I felt like I was levitating out of my seat.
Honorable mentions to Dune Part II, Deadpool and Wolverine, The Wild Robot, Challengers, Megalopolis, Alien: Romulus, Love Lies Bleeding, and probably a few others I'm forgetting.
“Why do you speak of certain reversals—machinery connected wrong, for instance, as being ‘ass backwards’? I can’t understand that. Ass usually is backwards, right? You ought to be saying ‘ass forwards,’ if backwards is what you mean."
I didn't watch to many new movies in 2024 as none of them really interested me. I will say though the one I did watch was The Iron Claw. Basically it's the story of the Von Erich family of wrestling fame. It was done very well I thought yes I know they omitted one brother but over all it was enjoyable and interesting.

I didn’t watch that many new movies this year. The only one I remember that I really enjoyed was Inside Out 2 sooo… I guess I’ll go with that. If I were to watch Sonic 3 or Deadpool and Wolverine, one of those would probably top it.

My favorite 2024 movie I watched last year, and the favorite new one I watched period, was Transformers One.
It was the Transformers film that the fans needed. A film that completely respect the franchise and uses the brand so well, with really good performances and animation. If nothing else, it's worth watching for the final act ALONE. Pure cinema.
Other than that, I watched The Wild Robot, which was a very pretty film, with a pretty good story. Really liked the realistic take on nature in the first half. The pacing kinda through me off tho, and the climax felt forced and weird. I might need to re-watch it to have a full opinion on it.
Also, I did a nice re-watch of Wall-e, which is still my favorite animated movie, and maybe my favorite movie ever, and I watched a bunch of parts of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish I didn't see the first time I saw that film. I'm still kinda iffy on the Shrek franchise, but I've have to admit, that film's amazing.
Anora is probably 'objectively' the best I've seen... but I have a real soft spot for Heretic! Hugh Grant has proven himself to be an excellent charactor actor in recent years - he has shone in everything from Paddington, to The Gentlemen.... and is great in Heretic.
The Substance was also a great horror movie, albeit it didn't quite stick the landing for me
