Politicians have unfortunately backed themselves into a corner where it will look like they're responsible for deaths if they lift restrictions too soon.

The reality is that pretty much every policy they ever support, does cause some deaths. It's just usually indirectly by the opportunity cost, so no-one really blames them for it. Whereas this situation is engineered to make it look like they'll be to blame. They'll all be very sensitive as to how easy it will be to paint them as responsible for it if anything bad happens.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Someone made a compilation of this hellish nightmare.

Look into how some of these companies treat their employees even right now if you really hate yourself!

So how ya'll doing with the outbreak? Seems like nothing has changed for the better. Even the US which seemed, for a few days anyway, to have at least slowed the spread, has seen another spike in numbers. Numbers seem to be rising everywhere. Number of sick, number of dead, number of unemployed...

@Heavyarms55 I heard somewhere that the virus could not be stopped just like that. Those measures right now is just to slow it and get only small number of people sick because otherwise the hospitals will not be able to keep up.

Eventually 70-80% of the population will get the virus.

It is a scary thought. But if they manage to find a vaccine it would be a game changer.

Some of the U.S. will opening soon, though only less effected States and Counties. When that happens, we will see if lockdowns were effective or just a waste of time. There is no doubt numbers of cases and death will continue to rise but it is a matter of at what rate. If the rate stays the same or better, slow down; shut downs were likely necessary. If the rate of spread increases at an alarming rate, we might as well not shutdown or reopen...you know, should of we not shut down and let this virus spread until worldwide population grows immune to it, or keep doors closed until a vaccine is developed and distributed? Of course, neither option is good for the global economy. If U.S does reopen, I would be against shutting down again and just push through. Shutting and opening alternatively would probably have the worst effect on the economy as oppose to keeping shut or open.

@Zuljaras Even the most optimistic people I've seen suggest we wont have a virus until, maybe, next year. Some think we might now see one until 2022 or later even.

On the matter of lockdowns, I think it's entirely possible they've been far too lenient. People are still going out to grocery stores and "essential" shopping and while I don't have an alternative solution, I have to question the idea of still having people congregate at stores. I feel like things are only poised to get worse. More people sick, more economic damage, more things falling apart. People have asked me about my plans for the future and I'm like, I don't even know what the world is going to be like in a month or even a couple weeks, how can one prepare for anything long term right now?

@Heavyarms55 No idea really. But still there are people who value more their right to go outside or to clubs than the safety of others.

My country is still with small impact. We have 1300 confirmed cases and arou d 40-50 death cases but I think that things will get worse the following months.

Judging from what I've seen on the few times I've been out lately it's like 80-90% of the population just doesn't care. Either that or they're like screw the order I'm gonna do what i want. I saw a bunch of people down by the river today fishing. Just hanging out going fishing like whatever i ain't fraid of no virus! This lockdown probably hasn't had much effect like they were hoping for. In the end it will turn out that it really didn't make any difference and people are going to do what they want.

As soon as they lift the order the death toll will likely triple and their will be protestors demanding they close everything back up. They've been saying it could be a seasonal thing and we'll have to shut down the whole world every year for god knows how long!

Admittedly there's this twitter thread I'm agreeing and can only work if there's enough places like park or something that people can walk through (doesn't work in Indo for example because barely any walking space)

@Zuljaras Those sorts of people are a problem. I understand the people who are struggling financially, that's a valid reason to be arguing that you can't just stay home - everyone has bills to pay.

But then you see these people complaining that they can't go to the hair salon or the movies and it just comes off as pure selfishness. "I'm not sick, so why do I care?"

But even worse than them I think, are the crazies. The tin foil hat conspiracies theorists. Last weekend I got quite angry with my mother and aunt because they both sent me this insane video that connects COVID-19 within this ridiculous story that ties the moon landing, JFK assassination, something called the "world federal association", Bill Gates plans for population control, bio-ID chips and the mark of the beast from the Apocalypse stories in the Book of Revelations in the Bible. It went on to claim COVID-19 is all part of a plot to give rise to the one world government and let the Anti-Christ take over for the end of days... And all that nonsense to just argue that we shouldn't cooperate with groups like the United Nations and World Health Organization...

@Heavyarms55 Seriously?!? Such conspiracy theories make me sick. This sounds like the Flat-Earters. I am all on board with people thinking for themselves but this is too far.

Also here some people think that the installation of 5G network is to mind-control people and vaccines is for implanting nano-chips to control your life.

And we share the same right with such people?

@Zuljaras I mean, some folks believe pineapple pizza is terrible, but I don't pay them attention.

@Anti-Matter You know we still haven't cured the common flu either, right?

@Anti-Matter Yeah. Influenza. The one that WHO estimates infects 3-5 million and kills up to 300,000 annually. The one that only 42-50% of Americans get vaccinated against per year.

@HobbitGamer, those Flu numbers can't be right (300,000 deaths of 3 million infected would be a 10% mortality rate, which is much higher than Covid-19's).

I think usual Flu numbers per year (just in the US) is something like 20-30 million infected & 10,000 - 20,000 deaths.

These people aren't acting selfishly; they all want to go back to the way things were. We're all tired of sitting around locked up in our damn houses. I want to go to a hair salon, I need a hair cut(might have to find a hairdresser that's working in secret.)

@RR529 sorry, I meant 3-5 million hospitalizations. Got it from WHO 2017 numbers.
