@theJGG I am not sure where you are from but yes we only had masks mandatory in shops in the July, in bars/cafes (unless sitting down) it was September and no we do not have to wear masks in the street. Where I live which is in the City of Bath it does not get super busy, we are a big tourist town and after all we have no tourists however I have seen some of the pics of London, Brighton, Manchester etc which is mad!
BTW I love Les MIs and Phantom they are two of my favourite musicals along with Cats
@XxSupernova8xX what's the point In controlling air travel or closing borders when there's still illegal immigrants crossing the Channel into the UK unchecked.
Especially after they have been trekking right through Europe, picking up all the different Covid strains to bring across to us.

@XxSupernova8xX it's hardly a separate issue when we've been locked up for over 12 months with risk of fines if we go too far from home and these people are allowed to travel freely across the continent without restriction.
They have gone through multiple safe countries to get to the UK, they are purely economic migrants at this point and risk spreading a disease that's costing hundreds of thousands of people their lives.
I've had Covid - was hospitalised twice with it and been left with long term lung damage, so apologies if I don't have the greatest sympathy for criminals putting everyone at risk.
@Mr-Fuggles777 the suspected UK patient zero is a rich boy from Sussex who caught it a ski lodge and then hid it even when Coivd started blowing up in the news. You have got to find a different reason to hate on those immigrants now ;p

I believe now everyone has to have neg. test and quarantine before entering the UK which should have been done ages ago. I normally travel 4-5 times a year and have not left the country since last Feb.
@jump hardly hating on them, it just seems pointless restricting movement when they can still travel across borders freely.
It needs to be full lock down or no lockdown, these half measures aren't exactly working are they.
The virus is already mutating so the vaccine is likely going to prove ineffective, people have already caught it twice proving it is stronger than the anti bodies before the mutations.

Thank you for the sentiment, I caught it from work. I was furloughed from my management position and went back into front line care instead of sitting at home doing nothing - ive worked in the industry for over 15 years so it made sense to help out seeming as they were struggling so much.

The mutated strains have been around for at least 6 months. The UK are just spotting them as there’s more gene work done in their testing as opposed to other countries. It’s only in the last month or so the mutated strain has been emphasised as it’s when Boris has to cancel Xmas, explain his poor planning etc so he needed to deflect to cover himself.
Yeah the half measures aren’t working. They should just get rid of the lockdowns and have Eat Out To Help Out applied to everything from laser tag to Primark ;p
Laser tag is okay but it wouldn’t make my top ten things I miss during lockdown list. I’ve not included violent protest as they have been happening anyway ;p

I was in Bristol for six weeks, before moving to the Middle East, and it was a very popular student town. Sometimes as I'm walking down the river I'll see a ton of students socialising, going on skateboards and generally being... irresponsible I suppose. Here, schools have just been shut down after three months of low-risk physical interaction, and going back to a virtual school is not very appealing to me! Indoor dining is also gone, but @ogo79 that burger place I mentioned in Chit-Chat is only outside so I'm going today!

When restaurants, and schools closed in Bahrain in January we were getting around 200 cases a day. In late March they reopened again and we're now getting 1300 cases a day despite the vaccine.
Almost all of these cases are from non-vaccinated people as well.
@WoomyNNYes Well yeah but it's nothing to do with new variants since not all countries are being vaccinated at the same rate with even richer countries struggling and being vaccinated doesn't mean you're now automatically immune to it or not spreading it.
In Saudi Arabia it's been announced that if you aren't vaccinated you can't travel to mosques to pray. Considering how devout most Saudis are it's a major step from the government.
I guess according to our Governor today if we stay at where we are with confirmed cases or go lower then California will fully open up again June 15th.

@jump That too. The world does need to be vaccinated. My point is, the speed at which variants can travel the globe is ridiculous, and seems so preventable. If a more deadly variant comes to UK from South America, and your current vaccines aren't effective, you're going to wonder "why aren't they restricting travel more?".
A week or two after the UK variant was discovered, it was found in the US, and that variant is on track to be the dominat variant, if it isn't already. The South African variant was discovered here in January-ish? I can't recall the other far-off variants that got here pretty quickly, but there's more. The freedom viruses have to cross the globe just seems to preventable.
Interestingly, it seems humidity plays a role in covid transmission rates. Higher humidity = less transmssion, because covid droplets are heavier and fall out of the air quicker.
