Topic: Anime & Manga (NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

Yeah...the off-topic discussion is driving me nuts, too, so I'll leave an on-topic comment below:

Recently finished Sol Bianca. It's a story about a group of female pirates and their periless (perilful?) adventures through space. Of course, it's only two episodes long, they both have absolutely nothing to do with eachother, and the second episode ends on a bloody cliffhanger for a third episode that never was, which is sad since it actually looked like the plit was going somewhere near the end. The story itself was, I felt, poorly excecuted, and I could pick it apart all day, but I hate nit-picking so I'll just leave it at that.

The characters were mildly interesting, and they seemed to play off eachother well enough, and one of them has a very mysterious origin that I wish was touched upon a bit more.

The best parts were the technology and the action sequences, which were lovely. They came up with some very interesting gadgets and used them to what I thought was a pretty good effect. Oh, and the animation and art design was pretty good. Though the music was pretty forgettable.

All in all, though, it was pretty average for a sci-fi adventure. Nothing really to write home about, nothing outside of a few cool gadgets that I havn't seen before, and a story that could've been compelling but ultimately wasn't. I just hope the 1999 remake, Sol Bianca: The Legacy, is better.

Has anyone seen High School of the Dead? What did you think of it,if you've seen it? I'm probably taking a risk just by mentioning that thing. I dropped the anime after 6 or 7 episodes. I just couldn't stand how perverted it got. Normally I don't have a problem with some fan service, but HOTD just made it plain annoying for me.

Yeah, I watched it up until episode 10. It's the single most perverted non-hentai I've ever seen (then again, I've yet to watch Queen's Blade)

It's awesome, though, and it really packs a punch. Some many times I was like, "OMG did you see that explosion?! Did you see them Motorcycle over that explosion?!?! OMG Did you see that lesbian chick power-kick her girlfriend down the stairs?!" And it just keeps getting better as it goes. I liked the Manga more, though. Not sure why, it was even more perverted.XD I love the character designs btw.

Actually Queen's Blade is worse if I'm remembering the right anime. I confused it for a hentai when I first saw some screenshots of it. XD
But yeah,I completely agree with you the action in HOTD was good and the character designs were great. I loved every character in there.
I've been meaning to go back and finish it,but I've been busy watching other animes.

That Highschool of the Dead sounds interesting, I'll try to watch it sometime.

I'm watching Fairy Tail, Letter Bee(tegami Bachi), about to start Negima!, re-watching Card Captor Sakura for the 100th time, Digimon:Xros Wars, and the new Shakugan no Shana OVA's.
I know this is an anime thread,but since I've been reading more then watching lately I'll just say I'm reading Future Diary, Bakuman(will check out the anime later), Ultimo, Soul Eater, and Shakugan No Shana.

I see someone else mentioned Fairy Tail not long ago, and I've heard of Letter Bee from our own TokyoRed, and I've heard good things about Negima from the anime forum I frequent. I loved Card Captor Sakura, though I've never watched it fully. How's the new Digimon, btw? Oh, and I've never heard of Shakugan no Shana. What's it about?

So far in my opinion the new Digimon is decent at best. It's definitely more fast paced then the older ones,but because of that you're sacrificing character development,which I consider a staple of Digimon. The action can get pretty intense though,so that's nice.

Shakugan no Shana's great! Basically the world has a balance. the balance of our world and the crimzon Denizons world. Both worlds live on some energy(I forgot the term they use for it.) and we share that energy with the other world. Everything lives off it,but some Crimson Denizons eat extra of it (by eating humans) to become more powerful. So there are "torches" to replace the eaten humans so the balance isn't upset. Special Humans make contracts with gods(I think they're gods) to become Flame Hazes,the keepers of the balance. Shana is a flame Haze who finds a special torch. She falls in love with it,but refuses to admit it. And it keeps going from there.
You'd probably get a clearer description on Wikipedia, sorry. XD

Woah, I remember Shakugan no Shana! I watched one episode of it a long time ago, I have no idea why I didn't continue watching...I think I will now though, it seems like something I'll really like!

And I started High School of the Dead since it's so short. So you guys say it gets MORE perverted...? Gah, I hope I can stomach it because I really like the show at the moment.

Thanks for that. Shana sounds very interesting coming from your description, though I'll probably pass on the new Digimon. You're right, Character development is a staple of previous Digimon series, and it's a big part of why I liked the show so much.

Also, my insticts were right, episode 7 of Fractale was a mess. I just hope episode 8 is better. The new One Piece was awesome as always, though.

Shana has a bit of everything for everybody. If you liked that first episode I'm sure you'll like the rest of the series. A new and final season is coming out soon btw.
And yes it will get more perverted. Don't let it stop you like it did me though. XD I hear the zombie killing gets really intense near the end from friends.

I never heard of that one before, but I just checked it out on Hulu, it looks very cool.

Anyways,has anyone heard they're reprinting the CCS manga in omnibus form? I can't get enough of the anime and bought the first volume of it. The second one is coming out August 9. The manga feels a lot more fast paced then the anime and there are more adult themes if anyone's interested in checking it out. I think I prefer the anime.( I couldn't find a manga topic,so I thought it'd be ok to post that here.)

I've been meaning to start High school of the dead (HOTD stands for House of the Dead btw) so I think I'll try it but keep your comments in mind.
