Seriously jealous you got to see them live. First thing I did after hearing them was look up their tour schedule, but no luck. I just want to touch the bass balalaika.
I kinda fell into their lap tbh.
Our nearby city has a cool free city festival every year where they've got quite a few stages. When the bands i wanted to see were done i thought "What the heck, once you're here, you might as well check out who's still playing now. In no way did i expect to be blown away by - and happily smiling about - the performance that much.
I'm loving that Beck has been back in the news the past few days, and that more people are finding out about him. One of the best artists of the last 30 years for sure.
@rayworld45 - you are right. stereopathetic soul manure is pretty much a lame album, but there are a few good tracks on there. and Taser Gun is probably my fave!
@MasterBlaster - I couldn't agree more with you. I just always assumed everyone knew who Beck was and how talented he is.
Beck albums I own are:
One Foot in the Grave
Stereopathetic Soul Manure
Mellow Gold
Odelay
Mutations
Midnite Vultures
Sea Change
Guero
The Information
I still don't have Morning Phase, although I have bought the first song off that album as a separate download. Good stuff!!
Everything past Sea Change (which is in and out itself pretty bland) is lame IMO. The Information and Modern Guilt have a few good tracks, but besides Girl Guero is unforgivable.
If you like Mutations and One Foot though, I highly recommend looking through his early demo tapes. Good simple lofi folk.
And if you like Midnite Vultures, my personal favorite, go find the B Sides from that era. They're AMAZING.
This is a signature.
Link goes here now.
Screw you.
I didn't really enjoy Morning Phase. It was slick and well produced, but too much of a downer. Sea Change was a downer as well, but I enjoyed more of those songs, especially 'Ship in a Bottle', which was a bonus track on the Japanese disc.
I like Stereopathic, even the bizarro interludes, it's not bad at all. Surprised you guys dislike it!
Modern Guilt was waaayyy to hipster for me, but there were still a couple good songs on it. Bonfire Blondes, Vampire Voltage and Half and Half, b-sides for that album, were better than many of the songs that did make the final track list. I don't get that.
If you haven't heard 'Mexico' you should check it out! Hilarious song.

^I used that as a jumping point to go around and listen to a bunch of different Rolling Stones songs and in the end...I just don't really don't like them that much except when they...break out of their comfort zone, so to speak? When it's unusual for them, like Paint it Black or You can't always get what you want, I like it a lot more than the other soings I listened to. Most of it comes from the lead singer - he's a good singer, but I don't like how he sings a lot of his songs. It's hard to explain, but combined with the other part (a lot of the more popular songs have boring lyrics writing-wise) it just winds up irritating the hell out of me. That said, out of songs that are a bit more their usual style, I liked Gimme Shelter the most because it put a little more emphasis on Guitar and you got to hear a different singer share the limelight.
