At this point, you may aswell have some sort of pop-up for when you first join the forums that is a FAQ which includes “How do I upload images?” (with the answer of BBcode/ (url)(img)(img)(url) thing) so people don’t constantly ask for a button that’ll never be there

It may also be good to have codes for Bold, Italics, etc.

I think it would be nice to have the option of posting a poll in the forums. It could work in two ways:
1. When creating the forum, the user selects “Poll” from the menu, types in the options, and posts. The poll would then be visible from the top of every page in the forum. This would be useful for forums attempting to gauge the interest in (for example) an online game that a user would like to play with friends.
2. When creating a post, the user selects “Poll” from a menu, types in the options, and posts the poll as a comment. The poll is only visible on that comment, so it can be “lost” more easily, but it is simple for those in (for example) the Splatoon 3 thread, when one wants to get an idea of who is on which Splatfest team, without getting 15 @mentions.

A possible bug I've noticed lately is seeing articles which don't appear to have been published on the front page yet or ever. This may be normal behavior but I thought I would report it just in case.

I've seen two very different types of examples:

1. https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/30-upcoming-nintendo-swit... has a date of Dec 26th (4 days from now) but was advertised to me by Google news. It can't be commented on yet but can be seen.

2. I randomly found one article by searching tags: https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/nintendo-switch-mario-games It has a stated publication date of 29th Nov 2023 (several days after I found and commented on it) but never appeared on the front page, so may have been seen by no readers but me.

I've gotten bad gateway errors the last few times I posted in threads... but my posts do show up, at least. I wonder if the site's all right... I'll edit my post so I can say if the error showed up.

Edit: No gateway error this time... weird.

@CaleBoi25 thanks, this likely only showed when viewing your first topic in that session (it only remembers topics on a per-session basis). I've updated the wording so it's different whether you are logged in or not.

@FishyS at the moment that is normal — it's when we chose to republish older articles, they are still accessible but will sometimes show a date in the future. Also, not every article is promoted onto the homepage (certain guides are not, especially if they are likely to contain spoilers).

@MarioLover92 this may be related to some background processes running, I've been getting the odd error come through myself, I will be updating this soon so it should have less impact on the live site(s).

I feel like email notifications should be able to be turned off in an easier way, like a button in profile settings to disable them or something, because as of now the only way to turn them off is through a small link on the email itself (which doesn’t even turn them off, as I’ve tried pressing Unsubscribe a bunch of times and it still sends me them, so it looks like it’s broken on there)

(Edit: removed a chunk of this post because I apparently replied to an older post lmao)

I've noticed some game overview pages list tags — for example Cult of the Lamb is tagged Roguelike. However other games such as Dead Cells don't have tags.

As a random suggestion, it would be neat if people could add tags (from a list). And then the top tags with enough votes could be displayed, similarly to the user review scores. Tags with 'non-official' genres like metroidvania, roguelike, visual novel, etc. are often more useful than the generic Nintendo genres such as 'adventure'. It would be a nice way to filter games, especially ones which didn't get reviews describing them.

@FishyS yeah, at the moment it just depends who is adding the game info as to how detailed they make it. I am keen to make the genre/theme stuff more comprehensive, and I do like the idea of getting the community involved — it would still need some kind of moderation over the terms though, so needs to be thought through — but it's a good idea!

@antdickens I'm referring to the emails you get whenever someone replies/quotes you in the forums, the option to get a notification on the website for them only and not an email too would be useful
