Topic: Ideas for the site

As much as private messages sound cool for people that talk often solely to each other it can also lead to harassment and abuse. My solution is just to ask that person to connect on a platform with actual private messaging (Discord, Twitter, Insta) and take it from there, forums are inherently communities anyway.

Plus private messages aren’t bound to the same conduct rules as public forums.

Yeah private messages are a bad idea, there’s a reason why discord has harassment issues.

The only way I could see it working is if mods could see them.

Yeah that is the only way. Although it kinda destroys the point of a private message.

@blindsquarel It does but what else can you do, you add the option it will be abused, it has been every single time, it’s just better to not have it at all honestly, but if you must have it that’s the only way.

Perhaps a PM feature for talking to the staff tho? So we could offer suggestion etc.

There already are official ways to contact staff regarding articles and such including the contact button below. And this forum thread is basically the way to contact staff regarding website ideas (antdickens almost always comments here when someone suggests a new reasonable idea). The way they have it now allows them to get ideas and be contacted without being spammed (or at least without being more spammed, I bet they get a fair amount of spam through the official channels).

@EaglyBird I agree completely. Its not worth it the risk, heck I keep saying risk it’s a fact that it will be abused, at some point in time, someone will be affected, if something you want to say is that secret then trade emails with that person or something, but like you said, if it can’t be said in public maybe it shouldn’t be said at all.

We could have a system that sends everyone a private message about why we don’t have private messages.

What kind of gift we can send to another user?

@Anti-Matter a month of paid membership, like having the option to sub yourself with auto renewal as normal, or gift a standalone month to someone else.

It’s just an idea.
