Topic: Ideas for the site

Not necessarily an idea but a question: Are alt accounts allowed if you specify in your forum signature that it’s an alt?

If it is allowed, I feel like it should be specified that normal alt accounts are allowed in the community rules then

@DiamondCore I don't see any logical reason to have alt accounts on our sites to be honest, that is why currently they are against our community rules.

Yeah… At worst, an alt account is a shady way to circle around rules and get away with stuff… And at best it’s just a messy confusing way to interact with the site.

I’m not sure why, but whenever I have to log back in on my apple devices (iPad and iPhone) using touch id/face id, the site seems to somehow struggle. It will take usually between two and five tries before it actually logs in.

It goes like:

• device does the “log in using the saved data” automatic thing
• page loads the login form
• device offers again to pre-fill the inputs
• page loads the login form
• device offers again to pre-fill the inputs
• page loads the login form
• device offers again to pre-fill the inputs
• page loads the login form
• device offers again to pre-fill the inputs
• the page actually logs me in

@Eel you might be doing it too fast, and therefore the invisible reCaptcha thinks you are a bot — try it slowly next time (to see if it works first time). Let me know how it goes...

@antdickens right now it seems to be working fine on both, perhaps it has no reason to check the captcha so soon after a successful login? I’ll try again next time it logs out automatically

Edit: Ok it just happened on my laptop again (it's a MacBook with Touch ID), it made me try twice, even doing things intentionally slowly.

I always had an idea for a community board of some kind! Like people who have an account can put their pfp or a drawing (only one per person or change it) on the board, so people could look at it and see how many people are on the site or have at least contributed to the board!

I know it isn’t well thought out, just and idea I had lol.

Uhmmm, I dunno if this is where I put this, and if it is, I dunno if this is a good idea. But perhaps a search bar for posts in a thread? Like, using keywords or something to find a specific post? As I said, I dunno if this is a good idea, and if it's not, I'm sorry for wasting your time

I'll second @EllaTheQueen6 . It's a little odd you can search for a keyword and find the right thread but it won't tell you which of the 125 pages your search terms appears on... Being told where your result is and also being able to specify one thread to search rather a whole forum would be nice.

I know I’ve posted a decent amount to this thread already but there are a few more things I’d like to see added to this site:

1. A way to heart/upvote/like specific forum posts
Often I find myself getting a notification for a reply to my forum post that doesn’t warrant a reply-back, but if i ignore it I worry I come off as “rude” or something similar, a way to just upvote the post would be nice. And if it can’t be added due to potential notification spam, it could just be implemented in a way so you’ll only get a notification if the person you’re replying/quoting too upvote

2. A way to lock topics ourselves or easier accessibility to request a lock on a post
I feel like this should be a no-brainer, I and many others have old forum discussions that are inactive that aren’t locked, and I wish there was a way to get them locked either by pressing a button next to edit/delete/reply, etc or a button to add the discussion in a queue to eventually be locked

3. An easier way to send images
As it is right now, you have to go to another website cluttered with ads to get BBCode to upload an image to a forum post, I wish there was some sort of button where you just upload the image directly from NintendoLife itself, take itch for example; when making a post on there, there’s numerous buttons including one for uploading images, something like that would be nice and convenient to have

Also, there’s some sort of bug going on the site for me where the UI isn’t laid out correctly and the date/time of the most recent forum posts is inaccurate (as seen in the photo)

If it helps, I’m using the Safari browser on an iPad Mini with iOS 17.
Anyway, that should be all I’ll post in this thread for now

@EllaTheQueen6 @FishyS at the moment you can only search threads; searching within posts for a specific thread should be fairly easy to do — I've added that to my todo list thanks!

@EaglyBird that's a nice idea; not really a priority feature but will add it to the list

Could you possibly add some sort of Message Wall/Private Message feature? It would be helpful for small talk stuff, such as complimenting a PFP, that you wouldn’t want to clutter up a comment section with.

@CaleBoi25 People have asked for Private Messages many times in this Thread. antdickens explained that it would cause more problems than it would fix so it likely won't be added. I agree it makes small talk hard, but fundamentally this is a news site rather than a social media site. For short one-off things like complimenting a pfp, my personal go-to is reply to say something about the actual topic at hand and @ someone with a side-message in the same reply so it is not too distracting.
