Would it be possible to add a "preview post" feature to the forums? I've seen it in a couple of the forums I've used in the past where you can preview what your post will look like once it's posted, and I've found it pretty handy. It helps to identify any broken images or missed typos in spoiler tags before officially making the post. It's not really necessary since we can always edit, but it helps to avoid the panic scramble of fixing a post. I've posted spoiler tags with typos on here a few times and always worry that someone might see the spoiler before I fix the post.

@Cynas it's been asked for a couple of times... and I see the logic. I think the intention is that we'll move to a more pre-formated style textbox in the near future where you can see those kind of things as you edit, therefore shouldn't need a 'preview' at all - or at least that will be the aim!

@pikku haha, no thanks that is a relic of the past!

@X-Slayer I think the autologin cookie is set for 3 months; I guess it could be longer but at the same time it's good practice to re-auth every now and again. As for your password issue, it's more likely your phone remembered the wrong one or got confused somehow, we can't change your passwords and can only be done by the user themselves.

Would it be possible to add the option to upload images straight from your phone/PC into your post?
Or if you could just copy an image and paste instead of getting the URL and use the img brackets.

antdickens

@TommyTendo it's difficult; in theory, you could upload anything... therefore we could be in breach of copyright or it might be inappropriate/porn etc, therefore it makes more sense for us to stick to 3rd party services and then we don't have quite the same issues... I know it's a little frustrating though.

@X-Slayer Haha nah, when I first joined NL around 10 years ago there was a dedicated chatroom. Used to be silly fun shenanigans in there for a while. Then SonyLife and XLife rose to power and destroyed NL's little empire.

I really like the user score system on the site (I wish everyone scored their games).

Suggestion: Would it be feasible/easy to add 'number of user scores' to the search filters? It's a little misleading to see a search ranking where some games have 5 scores and some 600. I know NintendoLife did this themselves in the 'best games of 2021' feature by only looking at games with 40 scores, but it would be really nice if users could easily do this type of filter ourselves

I realize there are probably only a few dozen people who would ever use this so it's not high priority XD

If NintendoLife allowed users to score games on a scale of 1-100, it would provide enough resolution to treat the data as variable, which would allow certain calculations to be performed in the backend (such as margin of error at 95% confidence). This would help account for quantity of reviews, since a lower number would result in a wider spread for the margin of error.

Could then run filters for games whose lower bound is >= a certain score.

Or, at the very least, a simple +/- 2 standard deviations (to be capped if exceeding the low/high ends of the scale) added to the mean score could provide a range of scores for which the reader can be 95% confident the true mean lies within.

Alternatively, adding a simple "Recommended: Yes/No" would allow other strategies to be used. A simple correction for lower quantity is, "add +2 to sample size, +1 for Yes and +1 for No". The stats behind why that works is complex but, it works. So 2 out of 3 would become a predicted 3 out of 5, or 60% recommend. The higher the sample size the less the correction has an effect.

I also think it would be cool if we had a reviews from are users section, where not only we could place score, but write a small or whole review.

@FishyS hidden feature alert... you can do this, if you enter into the search box "min-ratings:1000" it will restrict the min-required number of ratings to include, example URL: https://www.nintendolife.com/games/browse?sort=rating&tit... So this does already exist, just doesn't have any UI options for it at the moment.

@JaxonH hmm I think that sounds a little too complicated to be honest, rating a game out of 100 is incredibly hard. For simplicity sake, we wanted to mirror our review scoring system for readers, so there is more parity. We rate out of 10, so users can rate out of 10. That said, I would like to show a more detailed breakdown of the score (so you can see the distribution etc) and even filter by country etc. Something for the future!

@Snatcher we've considered user reviews for a while... the scoring system is already setup to support this so it's possible we'll add it in the future.

@antdickens
Admittedly, it sounds more complicated than it is. On the user end, basically, this is what I mean

Untitled

An average user score of where the arrow is, but the margin of error showing the spread. Lower number of review scores would result in a wider margin of error. Understanding the math behind it can be daunting for someone unversed, but I would gladly volunteer to help if needed (if such a thing were to ever be implemented).

A simple, easy and effective approach would be to simply demarcate +/- 2 standard deviations of scores, which any spreadsheet can calculate (such as excel). Whatever software is calculating the average score on the site should also be able to handle standard deviation.

Only reason I suggested 100 is, a 10 point scale wouldn't provide the best resolution for measurements such as these. But it could still work. After all, it would just be a rough estimate for ppl to gage the range of scores awarded.

But ya. No worries either way. Just wanted to convey its perhaps not as complicated as I was making it sound.

Neat. Thank you for the reply @antdickens

Interesting to see Odyssey is the only game with 3,000 user scores. I agree with Jason it would be nice to see a statistical score, but unfortunately a lot of the data sets are too small even for that to tell much. Too bad we can't force everyone who uses the site to rate their games XD

Maybe a sarcasm font. Some nfl sites I follow have one and it makes sarcasm a lot easier to see and know it is sarcasm. I know for sure some people have blocked/ignored me a few weeks back due to a sarcastic post about nobody wanting switches and everybody wanting a PlayStation. I think the comment even got removed for trolling when it was sarcasm.

It would be cool to have an article covering what tracks have appeared in Mario Kart Tour so far. Given the connection that seems to be present between Mario Kart Tour and the Booster Course Pass so far it would interesting to see what the remaining Booster Course Pass tracks could be if it does end up being that all Tour tracks (new and retro) come to MK8 Deluxe.
