Well you can send items back to towns with certain jars or people you find in the dungeons. Some towns have storage centers you can store items in to use later. But if you die, every item you're carrying goes away and you revert to level 1 at the beginning town. Dying is part of the game though, and the story progresses.
You get 3 rescues per adventure so friends can come save you and send you along. It's a really hardcore game though, and not for everyone.
With how the game saves are setup, you can't just turn off the game when you die and start from your save. You can save anywhere along the adventure though, but they made sure to keep cheats out of it.
what do you mean the story progresses after u die? only 3 rescues per save file thingy? lol that does sound hardcore. i love hardcore games
Well when you die, considering it just teleporting back to the original town. All the people you talked to along the way remember what happened, you're just back to level 1 and off again. If you upgraded a sword and left it in a storage center, it's still there waiting to be picked up. Dying ends an adventure, so you only get 3 rescues before you die and start the adventure over again.
@Adam: Did you know that the man in the bar who gives you free riceballs will give you a big riceball everytime you complete one of Fay's Puzzles in the first village? It's true. I recommend picking one of the easier puzzles and once you beat it go and talk to him and he'll give you a big riceball. Make sure to store it in your warehouse before you take on the puzzle again. Repeat this cycle as many times as needed. It may be a little repetative but you'll end up with a good amount of riceballs for your journey!
I also enjoy taking all the items I find on the way to the 2nd town, and seeing if I can use them to rob the storekeeper of all his stuff. It's a fun little side game I play Most of the time he kills me.

It's $15 new at Best Buy, you could probably even get a used copy for 9.99. There will probably still be people willing to rescue you at Christmas, just let us know
wow $15 dollars? thats awesome. and for a game that sounds that great. is your avatar in the game and what role does it play?
It's from the game, a little weasel that follows you around. His name is Koppa. He doesn't do much, will translate what animals say occasionally and talks about the story. He's just cool
I never finished this game, it's one of the most difficult games I've ever played >_< I like rogue-likes, but really, this game is too unforgiving. That actually makes it a better game, but I admit it was way too much for me.
more than happy? like super happy? lol i just got disgaea ds and i am loving it so ill probally get this at christmas since i am getting 3 games in september so those will last me awhile so yea. but thanx sorry smiley overload lol

Dang, I was doing the best I'd ever done this time. I got to Table Mountain at level 15 with over 100 health and, despite six full jars of holding, a full inventory. Then the very first room I walk in is a monster room, and I already used most of my scrolls in an earlier monster room. Poor Oryu. I couldn't protect her.
Feel up to making a daring rescue, Wolf Ram Heart? The room has some very strong monsters in a small area that were able to take down all my health in one turn, making it impossible to win anywhere near my level without a couple scrolls of sleeping (which I stupidly put into a transormation jar earlier because I had so many duplicate scrolls and wanted to test out what the jar was).
Anyway, I sent out a request. Let me know what you decide to do! I'll be sure to give you something good if I can figure out how. I am pretty sure I can give you a reward for rescuing me but I couldn't figure it out last time. The menus aren't the most straightforward.
I've been meaning to this game for...well, only about a week now. I tried the SNES version, and it was actually pretty fun, much better than the other Rogue-like RPGs I've played, and that includes Mystery Dungeon.
@Adam: Sure, I'm up for the challenge! I'm currently in the middle of an adventure right now but when I die I can start my rescue attempt; is that is okay with you?
