Okay Adam, Mission Accomplished! I just rescued you and I sent you a little something for your troubles! I hope you like it! Just watch out for those monster houses! They can be brutal! Your secret identity is Corn? Ha, you are Weird!
Bad reviews? Craziness. Nintendo Life reviewed it quite positively.
I don't think you can go wrong with either, but you'd find Shiren for cheaper. I got it for $15 new.
It depends on what you like. I can't tell you which you'd enjoy more. NL has a review of each game, explaining the basics and what works well.
They are different kinds of games, but I enjoy both for an engrossing and very replayable experience. Shiren is a dungeon crawling game very similar to other Mystery Dungeon games (the most popular of which seem to be Pokemon Mystery Dungeon here) or the computer classic Rogue. Disgaea is more like Final Fantasy Tactics or Fire Emblem.

Awesome! This rescue business is so cool. Thanks for the gift, though my current sword is 4 points stronger. Never hurts to have a back-up though.
Weird that the rescuer can give a gift. I assumed it would let me give you a gift, which would be more appropriate since you went out of your way to rescue me while I just lied there doing nothing, haha. Oh well. If I ever rescue you, I'll make sure to have a gift for you since I couldn't give one this time.
By the way, my companion wasn't revived with me. Guess I don't get her back until next time I die. Just letting you know in case you ever fall.
Great idea SUPERZELDAMAN! They are both great games, I'm sure you will enjoy them both!
@Adam: Any time! It was fun rescuing you! If you ever need help again just ask! Wow, sounds like you got a pretty good sword! If you happen to come across a plating scroll make sure to use it on your favorite sword so it won't rust. There are some monsters who will rust your swords and shields(if they happen to be metal) and it lowers their strength. Gold, wood and hide shields do not rust. Oh yeah, thanks for the riceball!
I gave you a rice ball? Uh, sure, any time! Haha, I don't remember selecting a gift. I wonder if it was chosen randomly or if I'm just a cheapskate and forgot what I selected?
Oh, and thanks for warning me about rust. I might switch to your sword now as a precaution. I didn't think about rust. I'm used to taking off armor when I see Aquetors or whatever in Rogue, but for some reason didn't think about it occurring in Shiren.
Also, I just stayed at an inn in the next town, and my companion still didn't return. I guess I really do need to die again to get her back. I miss her.
Don't worry Adam, she will come back eventually. There are two other companions that will eventually join you; that fat, dumb guy who tells you that he is your brother and that old man who offers to give you a massage. Also don't worry about the rust monsters until you get to the swamp area. There is a town right before it that warns you about the danger beforehand.
Haha, it's funny you say that. I just was in the swamp, and I suddenly noticed my good sword was no longer much better than the gift sword. Oh well. I died not long after that. And even now that I died the girl hasn't come back. I guess she comes back at the second village. As you can tell, I am quite obsessed with her, even though she blinded me like three times before joining.
Which monsters cause the rust anyway? I didn't notice a warning from the villagers (though I was skipping text quickly), and I didn't notice any game messages when the rusting occurred, either.
Poor Adam, she has blinded you with love! You will actually see her again in the dungeons, not the villages. When you do spot her just go up to her and speak to her and she will ask if she can join you again. I'm pretty sure that she won't blind you again! I think she stops doing that to you after you save her from those goons in the town. She is a pretty useful ally! Keep in mind that the game is pretty random when it comes to characters and events so you may or may not see her on your next play through. Just keep a look out when you are roaming the dungeons! The monsters that cause rust in the swamp are those slime monsters. They are those balls of goo that jump on you and sometimes multiply when you hit them. I hate those things, they suck! Just keep an eye on the messages in battle, you should see a message if your sword or shield strength goes down. Oh, and just for fun check out your adventure log at the main menu! It keeps track of everything that has happened in your game and I do mean everything! Just don't be afraid of dying because its going to happen a lot in this game. The story progresses every time you start over, there is always something new to see!
Wait until the massage guy kills you with one on accident. The first time I met him I was low on health and he killed me.
Your brother will keep asking for rice balls, it's annoying at first but this is how he levels up. Once he's fully leveled up he will stop asking for them and be a really tough team member. Try not to stand next to him in battles first either, he accidentally hits you sometimes until he's leveled up.
Be sure to bookmark the Shiren wiki community. It will help you out and explain some useful things. Here
Thanks for the tips. I just recruited my supposed brother yesterday. He's no replacement for my blind date, but better than no one. I hope she won't be jealous if she sees me exploring the mountain with someone else.
Also, that's cool that the game still has an active community. I wouldn't have expected that.
I don't know how Adam is doing in the wandering department but I'm still at it. Off and on actually. I rescued the Golden Condor awhile back and realized that the game was far from over. Which is a good thing! The bad thing is those new dungeons that appear in each of the villages are absolutely brutal! I got 11 floors down in that Kingy dungeon before I was slaughtered by a group of monsters! Right now my so-called brother wants me to accompany him so he can try out bungie jumping at Janus Valley. I'm sure that will turn out well!
Bungee Jumping is fun, and will unlock another dungeon. It will sometimes kill you though.
It took me about 30 hours just to beat the main mission, and I still have stuff to explore and beat. Probably less for some people, but I throw caution in to the wind and don't worry about dying and starting over, and just have fun wandering.
Yeah, dying isn't so bad in this game because there is always something new and exciting to see whenever you start over. Wow, that trap-fu dungeon is tough too! I'm really looking forward to unlocking that new dungeon when I go bungie jumping now! I always wondered what was the significance of Janus Valley. I haven't set foot in some of those other dungeons in a while so I guess now is as good a time as any to try and conquer them.
Heh, I doubt I've gotten anywhere close to the Golden Condor yet. It's a shame I tend to be so awful at some of my favorite genres. It took a lot of tries just to get back to the mines, and only just recently did I get past the swamps. Once I got to a giant monster room and killed them all with that blast scroll. That was awesome. I forgot how I died after, but I'm sure it was something stupid as always.
By the way, do you feel like rescuing me right now? I don't think I'll ever get to the end without using rescues, sadly, and I'm going to be playing Wii Sports Resort for the next few days, so it's not like I'm going to be starting a new Shiren file anyway.
Edit: Actually, I remember how I died that one time (and many other times). It was starvation. I have the worst luck with food. It never seems to appear when I need it. It's such an anticlimactic end.
Be sure to talk to the bar man in the first town every time you start over, he will hook it up with a big riceball. Keep them in jars so they don't rot, and remember to eat all your herbs and weeds if you start getting hungry. Don't eat your rice until you're under 10 hunger. Sometimes I'll let a ricechanger change some of my items on purpose, and when you beat the Chef side quest you will get free food in the 3rd town. Buy all the rice you can in the 2nd town. If you go back to the previous area, and come back to the 2nd town the shop items will change and you might be able to get more food.
so there isnt any saving in the game? wouldn't that suck soooo much if you got to the last dungeon...lol wait for it..................................................and died!LOL!
