Lunar Knights. It’s an action RPG from Konami's Boktai series developed by Kojima Productions. Unlike Bokai you don't have to be in real sunlight to recharge. It may be a little difficult to find though. I bought the game when it came out and is one of my all time favorites.
And that's what counts. At the very least you gave me another way to look at it. It's just that in the end that moved it to a must-buy for me.
And to no one in particular: I was considering Etrian Oddessey, but I was a bit pit off by the difficulty. How hard is it, exactly? Do you die a lot, and the only way to avoid dying is to grind? Or, If you use your head, should you be able to avoid dying? And how does Etrian Oddessey compare to Dark Spire(a very similar game that I've also been interested in)?

Aw yeah, I loved Lunar Knights! I got it, like, a year or two ago, after going to 3 Gamestops. It was so worth it, though. I opened it up on Christmas day and spent all day playing it. Loads of fun. I kinda got purnt out on it after that, and stopped on the second to last level. I just picked it up again the other day, and remembered why I loved it so much! It really is a fantastic game. I'm hoping to finally beat it soon and start on my Game +, I can't wait.
Now that's how you do a grind-a-thon proper! You hear me Children of Mana!? This is how you do it right!
Yeah, I've heard really good things about it. I just wish I know how it compares to Etrian Odyssey. ...except Etrian Odyssey is freakin' expensive($40-$80?!), where as The Dark Spire is $13 new. Well, that was an easier decision than I thought it would be. Dark Spire ho!
The Luminous Arc games are also way too expensive, so I'll probably pass on those as well.
If u like RPG's with randum encounters, then you'll like Final Fantasy IV. Great story and characters and music. Has cutscenes, though they're not quite as good as say KH358/2D's cutscenes. The difficulty is a little bit up there, but it isn't impossible. And battles are in 3D, so it makes it more awesome.
Another good RPG is DQHeroes Rocket Slime. Has some great characters and a lighthearted story, and is extremely addicting. Basically you ram into your enemies and have some awesome tank battles with your main character- a slime! Only downside is that the game is pretty short.

I'm waiting on the VC release since it's cheaper...and I really don't like the art-style in the DS game. Thanks anyways, though.
But I will say that the cutscenes in FF4DS are bloody fantastic! It really made me wish they made an FF4 movie!
And Rocket Slime was epic, one of my all-time favourite DS games! ...and while I hate to knitpick(actually, I love knit-picking, but in this case, I'd hate to do it), I have to say, there is not a single aota of RPG-ness in it. It's more of an action-adventure-platformer, more along the lines of the legend of Zelda. Which is why I bought it and loved it, oddly enough - I was never a fan of the Dragon Quest RPGs. Still it was a very humorous and charming game, and I simply cannot get enough of it.
The World Ends With You- It's as unconventional as an RPG can get, and the badge-based, toch-controlled battle system is one of the most creative and entertaining combat systems I've ever seen. Music's good too.
Final Fantasy III- The job system is fun, though the game can be a little tough.
Oh, I forgot to mention. Retro Game Challenge has an RPG in it, called Guadia Quest, which is pretty fun. It's a bit short (~6-7 hours), but it's not the main attraction of the game, so it's all right.
I guess I'll throw in a few recommendations of my own:
Contact - I haven't played this one as much as I should, but so far it's been pretty good. Got a lot of customization, a Final Fantasy 2-style stats and leveling systems, and gameplay and combat reminicent of old-school PC RPGs. The story is pretty charming and quirky, although I was rather disappointed that the Main character doesn't have much personality, nor does he ever interact with you(the game's "hook" is that it's a big fourth-wall breaker, yet it never really capitalizes on it when it should).
Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer - Great Rogue-like game. It very well polished with fun an interesting combat that requires a lot of strategy. It's a tad basic for a rogue-like, but that really just makes it easier to get into, especially if you haven't played Rogue-likes before. Of course, even if you do like Rogue-like games, especially other Mystery Dungeon/Chocobo Dungeon games, you'll probably love this one, too.
