Well everyone.. it appears that these tiles here from this tileset: http://s22.photobucket.com/user/Hyrule_boy/media/ultimate-GB-...
Total about 1176 8X8 tiles.
So no, it is not feasible to entirely re create link's awakening in just 4 tilesets utilizing BGU0-BGU3
But with tileset swapping, based on what tiles are needed it may still be possible.
Suggestions or ideas are welcome. Perhaps not an entire remake (not collosal) but a spin off that utilizes some of the more important
overworld tiles.
Then Tileset swapping could occur during dungeons. Same with over world swapping and pallete swapping (assuming all palletes are stored as data in the "rom" if you will )
What if I told you you didn't have to do any tile-swapping (in relation to the overworld tileset)? What if I told you that you could fit the entire tileset into 2-3 BG slots? There are a number of factors to consider, all involving that the current tileset does not use all unique tiles.
1) Just looking at the current tileset, I can see so many duplicate tiles. Reduce all 16x16 pixel tiles so that each one is unique.
2) These are 16x16 tiles running on hardware that uses 8x8 pixel tiles, meaning they are metatiles created from 4 8x8 pixel tiles. When splitting all 16x16 pixel tiles into 8x8 pixel tiles, you are now once again shown that there are duplicate tiles. Reduce all 8x8 pixel tiles so you have a unique set again.
3) You still don't have a unique set yet, because many of these 8x8 pixel tiles are simple flips of other tiles, whether flipped vertically or horizontally.
4) After steps 1, 2 and 3, you still don't have a unique set, because many tiles are the same but using a different color palette. Even the solid-color tiles are just a different palette to other solid-color tiles.
Of course, if you were to reduce the tileset to the basics and smallest factor, you're going to have to deal with constructing them to become what you see in the current tileset.

That would be amazing, but pretty difficult. Hey since you're chatting mind helping me with something else?
I've got this issue with tiles not showing up how I want them to in petit computer here: http://imgur.com/C3sKkxI
I don't have transparent selected when I load them.
I believe it has to do with BG layers , like the foreground layer of bgs being painted with transparent properties inside of your map demo found here: http://lazerlight.x10.mx/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/QR_BGTUT.png
I'm not really sure what's going on all I've done is LOAD before it reads the map (it uses Read data since i've appended the map data I want in testing)
is there a way I can change how it's drawing the tiles or how layers are displayed I can't find anything relating more specifically to transparent tile issues in ptc.

@Gimmemorecoinz The reason why the color in the first slot disappears when setting transparency is because in PTC (and numerous 2D-accelerated hardware), the first color in all 16 rows under BG mode (not GRP) is a transparency color. This is meant to allow seeing behind different layers. When all layers are disabled (via VISIBLE), only one color will show, and that is considered the "background color" that is assigned to the very first color slot out of all 256 colors slots. So, if you have black as the first color (kinda like what you have in the image), make sure every palette group you use has black as the first color to match and keep everything consistent.
A Lo Zelda Links Awaking remake? Good idea! I remember the DX version in color. It was a good game
I want to create a chapter from the Final Fantasy II story, before Fynn was burned down by the Imperial soldiers. I want to use the recourses from Dawn of Souls. But I can only setup 100 sprites, so I can't make lots of different characters. At the begin you can choose between a boy or a girl. Your hometown is Bafsk and your father is the owner of a Chocobo farm next to the forest. Thats all for now I geuss. See for yourself when the demo is done.

@T-bender
To load an image from grped: LOAD "GRP0:filename"
To load a background from scred to layer zero: LOAD "SCU0:filename"
To load a background from scred to layer one: LOAD "SCU1:filename"
To load a user sprite group: LOAD "SPU0:filename"
I believe this loads user background tiles: LOAD "BGU0:filename"
You can add: ,FALSE so you do not see the load screen. Add: SYSBEEP=0 to turn the loading sound off. Make sure to turn in on after it loads.
The number zero may change and you may want to send to different screens. gtg
@justlink you realy have a zelda obsessions!
i wanna help you with the story and sprites if you wish. ganon is back. he has stolen all the fairies of the hyrule kinfdom. you have to get them back. but when you're doing this, princess zelda will be kidnaped by vaati, so you have to get her back!
i can also help you with some map editing, but i'm busy, so i can't do much in a little time...

i am making a zelda game. is there any volunteers to help make the game engine, sprites, programming, and story, so around a group of 5
why do you need 5 people? one does programming, one does sprites, and one does music. you could even have one person do multiple things. also, making a zelda game isn't just something you can decide to do and get finished in a few days. making games like that takes dedication and a LOT of free time. sorry if it sounds harsh, we've had multiple people supposedly make a full zelda port or start making a zelda game and still the closest thing we have is drow.
also, making a zelda game isn't just something you can decide to do and get finished in a few days. making games like that takes dedication and a LOT of free time.
i plan to put a lot of hard work into it and already have some ideas for gameplay mechanics and main story elements. The game takes place about 1,000 years after the events in spirit tracks. The Hylian race is flourishing, but the Kingdom of New Hyrule and it's history is gone, the land now being called Dertera (just a name). The main game mechanic is based around a phone, which Link can use to hack things. The main villain actually starts out as a big corporate giant, but is actually just a new incarnation of ganon. Link is touring an ancient castle on a school field trip. Zelda and him stry from the teacher and visit the last princesses room. The see a ghost named (). The ghost begs for Zelda and Link to stop the war. Zelca and Link are confused. The ghost grabs Zelda and she disappears. Link runs away to find help. He tells the teacher Zelda's missing, but the teacher dismisses him and says "There is no Zelda in our school". Link is forced to leave. He sneaks out to the castle that night and returns to the princesses room. He finds a journal that wasn't there before.
"Day 10: It's been ten days since I've been trapped here. I have decided to write this journal to hope that he sees it and comes to save me. Things are not good here. My supposed father has past, leaving me in charge thinking i'm his daughter. I have a corilation tomorrow. Link, come help me.
Day 15: New people have landed on the shores today. I am losing memory of home, and they're being replaced by things i never knew. I must meet these people today, hoping they're here in peace. I remember you Link, please come save me.
Day 20: The people have declared war on us. I'm scared and i am drafting men by hundreds to protect the kingdom. The history behind it is great and I believe we will be victorious. My life is here, but I remember someone, and i believed i would see them again
Day 30: The war has been going on for time now. The front line's of the enemy are to close to the castle. I am being moved to Anouki village now. I will write as soon as i get there." The pages end. A noise comes from behind Link.
"The princess was diagnosed with amnesia. We believe she was thirteen when this journal was wrote. We also believe the princess had died before making it to Anouki Village as there were no more writings of the princess afterwards. The Kingdom fell and was soon rebuilt as a democracy."
Link realized it was only a tour guide description box. The ghost reappears and sees Link.
"Hero of the Castle, return and protect the princess once more."It screams, grabbing Link. Link faints and reawakes in the same room, but it was brighter and warmer.
"Hi there", a voice said. Link looked and saw Zelda.
" Have the spirits left us a new hero?" She said.
So, hows that for story so far? I know its very broad, but its just main ideas. Also, i need a team because i can't 1). do sprites, bad artist 2). i'm only a basic programmer, i'm to learn collision but with no avail (also trying to learn Link's awakening style scroll between areas), and 3) yes, i don't know how to make a game engine.
Also, i would request twin and iamapersons help as the have made 3d games, and i would like Zelda: Ghost Castle to look like spirit tracks. I also need an artist, and a good programmer
Do you like videogames? If so, you must know
It's dangerous to go Alone.
if you're a BASIC (punpunpun) programmer i don't think you should start with a zelda game. even some of the best programmers on here have trouble with this kind of stuff. you should start with something simpler while you're learning so 1) when you do get better you don't have to get rid of the project because of bad code 2) it's going to be hell making this if you're a beginner 3) you can actually learn and not get 30,000 headaches trying to make a sprite move
if you really want to do this, by all means, go ahead. just know that it's going to be very hard if you're still a beginner programmer.
twin, i i'll list what i know.
Spset, spofs, spscale, spanim, spread, goto, gosub, return, save, load, append, locate, print, how to use string$, input, linput, if and goto/gosub, if then else, bgput, bgpage, bgfill, bgmplay, data (music use), bgmset, bgmsetd, btrig(), button(). Thats most of what i know, so i need to learn collision boxes, sidescrolling techniques, and then i xan experiment with a simple sprite moving game. If u can help, i really like to learn sprite collision. And twin, i really think its cool u and imaperson were able to make big games with an app the developers made to show kids and adults how programming works

other people make better games than us, mine isn't even released yet.
making games isn't about knowing commands. listing commands that you know means nothing.
i have no doubt you could make it, but it wouldn't be easy, even for the best programmers.
if you want help with sprite collision there are plenty of tutorials, just do a quick google search
twin, i know its not about just knowing the code, its also about knowing how and why to apply the code to a center place and what it will do for your program. funny you say to search it. I did, but i can't really find what i'm looking for. My first big project i ever started was called petitbook, a facebook clone. Its qr codes are at page 80+ i believe. I dont knoe wat version it is, but my updated version includes: Password and login name, friend list (changeable), ability to change background (background remains even if program closes), ability to send messages like the ds's pictochat, and recive messages, status changing ability, and ability to change password and username. During that project, i used this community for help, and i learned a lot to. So if i start on a small thing, such as a small rpg using collision, i could learn a lot of things that way.

JustLink I suggest downloading a scrolling zelda demo found in the QR code sharing thread. It seems to use an SCR file and would be a good place for you to get aquainted with what it takes to make a game like that.
Also I plan to release a full working zelda ish game demo/engine. Perhaps you could build on that it could be easier.
Have you seen my map editor system yet?
