@swordx If you want to be really explicit (and rule out some errors), you can try to load and store the GRPs with a number after it. For instance, turn this:

GPAGE 1,3,1
LOAD "GRP:WHATEVER"
GPAGE 1,1,1

Into this:

GPAGE 1,3,1
LOAD "GRP3:WHATEVER"
'<Read the data>
GPAGE 1,1,1

And when you save:

GPAGE 1,3,1
SAVE "GRP3:WHATEVER"
GPAGE 1,1,1

Thank you @ramstrong for clarifying. I always explain things in a weird way. I'm just not good with words...

@randomous I never have to use GRP3 or such when I'm saving worlds in MCDS. I just do:

SAVE"GRP:MAPDAT16" 'or 32 depending on world size

If Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy & paste this into your signature and hope it happens.

Are you on the right GPAGE when you're saving? That'd affect it. Look at the saving code for MCDS. I made it overly simple and easy to understand.

Lol jk (but there is important stuff on there). Press A. Oh, and the barrier blocks are indestructible, so don't even try to break them...

I tested my save system on your game, and it works, but not on my game. WTF!

@Swordx what are you even supposed to do to save? And when you pick "Load game" on the menu,and you don't have your progress saved,it starts the game but it says you have zero HP,zero MP, and zero gold.

There's a save block in the town, but it doesn't work because WHY WON'T IT WORK!?!?!? Arggggg

Just use MEM files and MID$ to read it if you can't get GRPs to work.

@randomous when I get the chance, imma look at the save file for Village. This should be interesting...

But IT DOES WORK! Just not when used in conjunction with EVERYTHING else...

I was using RETURN and GOSUB (thanks ramstrong and IAmAPerson) for testing how text would work in the Cave Story game/port (if I ever get there). You know in CS where characters speak one letter at a time and there's a sound effect playing? I was trying to emulate it using those commands and BEEP 9, as BEEP 9 sounds like someone typing. But it doesn't really sound good (even though I messed around with the pitch). Is there any other preset sound that might sound like the sound it plays with the text?

This isn't a interesting signature. Go look at someone elses.

@IAmAPerson It looks like you're missing half the village. Do you just have nothing on half your village? Also, are you using 1.3.1? I added signs; it doesn't look like you've placed any (there'd be a whole bunch of color under right under the purple).

Oh, here's a quick explanation of the various sections of the save file. The colorful spots in the very top left are the objects in your village. The purple spots beneath is the meta data for the objects (things like the state of trees and flowers). The big pink L represents a pathway you have in your village. You could technically fill up all that blank space if you wanted; it's blank because you have no pathways anywhere else. The random 4 pixels to the bottom left of the L is a rock's moss. The massive white block on the right is the "permanent BG" information; those are BG tiles which cannot be altered in the save file. That's the base of the whole town; it's all that grass and junk. It's been compressed a bit so that only 16 different BG tiles are usable (to save space), but you should still be able to see the river grass running through it. All that junk on the bottom is everything else: your name, the village name, the last time you've played, your bag, the shop inventory, the catalog, how many of each item you've obtained, and some other stuff I don't remember. If you'd like to know the exact location of all this stuff, look near the very top of the code for a heading called "Where to store data in grp". All these numbers are the starting locations for the various bits of data strewn about in the GRP.

@randomous Can you add inside and outside house designing in village? you know furniture and stuff maybe different house designs?

Hi I'm Levi and I like Bloopys :^)

Lol! Yea, the right half of my village has nothing but the pathway, house, and shop. The left side is almost as thick as a forest. No I'm not using 1.3.1. Should I get it?

I'm probably not mentioned because of how quiet I am on this board. I don't talk much.

@ramstrong

Testing your alternate method, yes, yours is faster by 3 frames in a 4001 iteration loop due to reading 2 variables instead of 1 variable, 2 fixed numbers, and doing an addition operation, and by all accounts, more readable.

I don't know a beep for that, but I know a compact way to do the one letter at a time!

TXT$="You need a sword before you can go on!"
GOSUB @TEXT
...
@TEXT
FOR T=0 TO LEN(TXT$)
PRINT MID$(TXT$,T,1);
BEEP 'Beep here
NEXT
PRINT ""
RETURN

or if you want to overly compact it,

@TEXT
FOR T=0 TO LEN(TXT$):? MID$(TXT$,T,1);:BEEP <#>:NEXT:?"":RETURN

@Leviceljir I'm sorry, I'm not planning on adding the insides to houses. I hate to sound lazy, but it's going to take too much time and effort, and I want to keep my goals for Village realistic.

@IAmAPerson I mean, 1.3 adds a whole bunch of new stuff. In fact, it includes one of the things you asked for: purchasing a shop reset. You can also place up to 20 signs which you can write on (just pick up the sign and place it again to edit the writing), I've finally added all the animations and sound effects (nothing is done "instantly and quietly" anymore), smoothed some stuff over, and fixed the "Game crashes if you try to save a screenshot with a bad name" bug. I'd get it just so you can reset the shop whenever you like lol.
