Not really since it only loads the (whole) next area when the character goes out of the screen (and relocates the character accordingly). There's a short loading screen between areas though.
how short? What about persistant sprites that can also travel between areas in the game?
or I'm guessing, the previous area is completely out of memory at this point of transitioning to a new area?

@Morhptorok Pft, loading screens. I only have one incredibly long one, so mine is obviously better (sarcasm).
Hey, have you played Village lately? What do you think about fish/bug rarity? Everybody keeps saying that it's too easy to fill the journal, but it's too hard to catch certain fish/bugs.... it's contradictory, and I'm confused lol. What do you think about it?
@damolii: the loading time is just the time it takes to draw the whole area, smaller areas equal shorter times, but I use the whole area available.
The previous area (and every other area you're not currently in) is not visible, but the characters can still use the graphic file where the map is stored as a reference to know what's solid and what's not... So, your character won't get stuck in a wall or tree when you go to another screen, because it simply won't be able to go to the other screen at all.
@randomous: fishing is incredibly well implemented in Village! I really loved it, it's just like in animal crossing!
Though yeah, although I haven't captured many different fish yet, I could complete the bug list in a night!

@randomous
even though you didn't ask me
Couldn't sleep lastnight then my air mattress popped so now I don't have a bed. so I played village.. really too long.
so now..
I learned today
the shop only refills once a day..
I accidentally sold my fishing rod and shovel
I have over 40, 000 gold.
I got that i just the first day of the game.
Fish are kind-of hard to catch.
I haven't got a bug net yet.
I replicated the glitch with the skin again but this time I had gold to replace the negative gold in my safe.
So I didn't mess up my save file. :3
I like the journal. I showed my friend and he said it was really a good game
@morphtorok: you didn't exactly answer my question. could npc's move from one area to another ? if npc is in area 1 and player is in area 2, could there be a way for you to process an npc in area 1 (collision, movement, or simulate it over time) and then maybe have that npc come into area 2 where the player is Or would it not be possible? I'm asking because I'm interested in larger maps like this.

Well, I did answer. Even if the character is not currently visible, it would be able to move around using the grp file as a reference (or it could simply get paused until it's its time to be on-screen). I still haven't added npc characters yet (and don't think I will!) but it's entirely manageable.
@GimmeMoreCoinz Did you update your game? I thought I fixed that bug... I tested it over and over! Lol go to the "Roll Credits" option and see if you're still using 1.1.0. Tell your friend I said thank you for the compliment!
@Morphtorok Thank you! I originally had a Minecraft style fishing system in mind, which is basically Pokemon fishing but with a visible bobber. However, after speaking with my roommate at the time (who helped quite a lot, he's in the credits: Adam Roberts), he convinced me to go the extra mile and just make it like Animal Crossing.
I'm going to change the rarities again (ugh, I've changed them like 10 times so far!) so that there's a "rare" set of bugs/fish and a "common" set of bugs/fish. Each set will have a range of cheap to expensive stuff, so you can still make money if you're catching common stuff. This won't impact the journal layout or anything, it just means that you'll catch more of the common junk and less of the rare stuff while still (hopefully) making money. Thanks for the feedback!
My brothers are extra-super critical about this kind of stuff, so they might be able to help me sort out the rarity issue when I see them tomorrow. One day... one day things will be right lol. Then I can finally add that arcade machine I always wanted...
Sorry everyone. I meant to get this out within the hour, but after creating the QR codes (all 139 of them), scanning them in, and trying it out, I noticed some problems. I will try and correct this ASAP.
@discostew: that's ok I know your working hard i'm excited.
@everyone else: I guess I Should go ahead and say that my super smash bros v1.2 LITE isn't quite ready for the checkpoint release yet.
There's still some bugs, and I haven't even began to add physics. Maybe sometime tommorow. I know you're all waiting. Atleast I think you are? ^^;
Plus after I get link's sprites in there's still the issue of adding the other two new characters! that'll be four characters in total. I have alot of work cut out for me.
Maybe the checkpoint V1.2 LITE release will only have link and mario. I haven't even fixed mario's pallete issue yet. I hope to fix that with V1.2 LITE revision. We'll see.

@randomous She was a good cat. I get sad from time to time when I realize the absence, but I'm overall ok.
Regards to packaging, you use the SAVE command, but you tack on a 2nd parameter that specified which assets to include in the PRG you are saving. Rather than specifying actual names for each asset, it takes the currently loaded assets (via LOAD). You choose which loaded assets by bitwise relations. For example. SPU0 is the 1st bit. SPU1 is the 2nd bit, and so on until SPU7 at the 8th bit. If you wanted to include all of them but SPU5 and SPU6, your binary layout would look like this - 10011111 (big endian). I haven't used binary interpretation, but it also accepts hexadecimal strings, to which this particular layout would equal &H9F, or "9F". GRPs occupy from bit 19 to bit 22. To save just GRP0, you set your hex string to "40000". So, if my program was called "MYPRG", and I wanted to package GRP0 with it, I use this
SAVE "MYPRG","40000"
The list for all available assets that can be packaged into PRGs is in the PTC manual. Understand that when you load a packaged PRG, it will load all included assets with it too. Also be aware that if a packaged file is later saved without the package string, the assets won't get saved to it, so you have to use the 2nd parameter each time. I know the variable PACKAGE$ stores the last package string from LOAD, so I would assume you could use that variable in its place each time you save afterwards, but I haven't tried it myself.
One other thing @randomous, regarding the demo. It was 139 codes before because I increased the error-correction at the time, but this time, I put the error correction back down to reduce it to 99 codes. I supplied not just the codes, but the actual PTC file on my website (~260KB), so if you can't read the codes, you can grab the PTC file, and go to the PTC website to extract the higher error-correction codes that way.

That's some very useful information!
pretty good and helpful.
can it be posted in the tutorial section or something ? Or maybe.. somehow we need an index of advanced topics for petit computer.
I've been getting more advanced with dealing with sprites. @discostew I read that you used tiles for the larger boss "Sprites"
I'm wondering how practical is it to "move" or "animate" those tiles as well, as sprites. You'd need a table as well right for which tiles for that large sprite correlate to which frame. I'm assuming the dragon boss will be animated as well. ?I'll have to try the demo out but not tonight.

@Discostew Ooohhhh duh, I should have realized that they had space reserved for GRPs. I really need to read thoroughly rather than skim; first the GPUTCHR thing and now this lol. I'm currently using the same packaging method for SPUs and BGUs, but I didn't even think about saving GRPs with this. Thanks, and thanks for the PTC files too.
What is this? The forums have advanced 2 pages since I last checked it... ONLY 8 HOURS AGO!!!
Anyway, so that you guys can't accuse me of off-topic spam, my question didn't get answered from earlier. I was working with my multiplayer chat, and said "Hmmm... Doing LOAD"FILENAME",FALSE will load a file without a prompt screen. What about SEND/RECVFILE"FILENAME",FALSE?" So, I tried it, and it gave me a "too few operands" error, being indicative of a way to do what I wanted. Question is, what parameter am I missing? It's not in the help menu. (@randomous you're a boss at PTC, do you know?)

Oh and one more thing - do you guys think that I'm expecting too much of basic when I start thinking about infinite worlds, survival mode, and terrain generators for Raycraft? I'm also considering renaming it Minecraft DS. You guys' opinions? (Btw I call everyone a guy, so plz don't be offended if you're a girl)
EDIT: I don't think that Mojang would be happy if I were to rename it and it get popular

@IAmAPerson20 I think you should name it minecraft ds and people on the wiki will go crazy. for send/receive file do sendfile "mem:memname",0. last thing, im the person on wiki that cant get the blocks to change size no matter how hard I try. on a unrelated topic, I have been working on a game for the past day. I got out my old gamecube and played some wario ware inc. so I grabbed my ds and programmed a cool little wario ware demo.. it has a grp file cutscene and a couple micro games. now I need to learn how to use qrs
