@Gimmemorecoinz I mean, the animation doesn't have to be smooth as butter. You could just have like 4 frames for regular standing, and another 12 or so for various "standing actions" like scratching his head or something. Unless it just has to be butter lol.

Edit: Ohhh, you're making them 32X32. Well, never mind then.

32*32 sized sprites are a pretty huge thing on petit computer but tbh they're the only thing that'll do in my opinion in the spirit of preserving
the graphical quality of an end goal. Here's one frame of mario in the smash bros demo I'm making!
I have several frames of animation done but I want to save until the demo is ready! http://imgur.com/pnIELTF

Did you take that from Mario and Luigi games? It looks great!

@Hairmanban19

It's definitely better with the SCU0 files, I can tell you that.

Okay everyone. :3 just to demonstrate how fast I work.
Here's a sample of some of mario's sprites for this smash bros demo already completed, they just need to be touched up.
I'm adding some of his moves now. and thinking about how I'm going to code the input.
I'm finding that I'm already limited on how many frames I can use but that's OK I'll work around it by loading out of memory one sprite sheet in favor for a currently un used one, and then i'll check if a sprite sheet is loaded before I try to animate a specific motion. Hopefully that works and doesn't lag the game demo too much when I start fully coding it

@randomous I need the 32*32 size because it won't let me use 24*32 sprites and I'm too lazy to try to code around that by having 3 8 by 8 sprites
for each mario frame.

@swordx: I took it from a sprite sheet on the web. I'm going to be using alot in this sprite sheet.

If you notice those are just MARIOS animations. I'm not using all of them.
But basically this means that each sprite sheet=16 frames of animation.
That isn't alot to work with. His standing pose is over 21 frames and uses two sprite sheets.
Led alone all his other moves. I'm doing sprites first so it's easier to know what I'm doing when I start coding.
I do have a plan though for this.
I need to get his movement animations next, and get basic platforming into the game.

Mine will be easier, as I'll be using original, 16x16 sprites.

Keep up the good work, I'll be interested to see what you have done by tomorrow.

Here's mario's running poses completed. I have to do a few more sprites before I can start actually coding mario's movements.
I'm not going to dissapoint

I cant wait for all these ssb games. I just got my computer back. Can I judge the ssb games? I can choose a winner

Just your average talking boot. FC: 0791-4881-1672 for Smash and Pokemon.

Well my mario character uses up to four sprite sheets so far.
That's alot considering you only get... seven?
It's not too bad actually it means I can have up to two sprites on screen at once (two different onces)
if the sprites are of the same quality. This is kinda limiting though.
I might shrink the sprites down to half their size making them all sixteen by sixteen but I think I"ll lose too much quality.
We'll have to see I guess? Mehh
Now onto the hard part. the coding. and the stuff. I'm going to be lazy because i've been at this for quite a while now today and just code up the demo so it's ready and i'll worry about making things perfect and smooth later. :3

lol but mr. Waffle says dat he can haz 4 spritrs at once.

I hope your SSB turns out well. It will probably be better than mine, as mine will only be an extra in DA 2.

@Swordx i'll start making sprites tomorrow. Will you be able to upload the new DA2 video today?

Tomorrow, I will post some QR codes at the Petit Computer QR Code Sharing Thread proving that 3d movement is possible in PTC. I have made a controllable moving 3d box. Not much, but definitely a good start to a whole new realm of PTC gaming! What I use are arrays for each corner of the cube, then a chain of algorithms that the arrays go through to make movement. It is pretty compact for what it does (only about 70-80 lines), as it uses the same chain of algorithms for continuous movement. I'll explain:

DIM BACK(9)
DIM FRONT(9)
'There are 8 corners to a cube. There are 2 arrays per corner, one for the X-axis, and one for the Y-axis. The "back" and "front" represent the dimensions of the cube
FRONT(1)= 'Setting up the coords of the cube
FRONT(2)=...
...
@LOOP
'Right here are a lot of complex algorithms. Example:
FRONT(7)=(FRONT(7)/1.00125)+0.17
GOTO @LOOP

The loop cycle will animate the cube as long as the loop is going, as the algorithms change the coords differently each time. Of course, there is a lot more to the code, but this is the just of it. You may open the file and look at it. To add more movement, you just need to add a IF BUTTON() AND loop and another section of algorithms. I hope this will inspire some 3d game creation.

If Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy & paste this into your signature and hope it happens.

I know that feeling. Were you pasting in code? Cause if so, I found a trick on how to paste in code without it crashing.

Cool! Are you gonna make games with it?
