Mario and Luigi for its humor and gameplay. Plus I could watch Mario and Luigi speak fake Italian for hours and not get bored. Paper Mario is cute, though. I just think Mario and Luigi is funnier. . And I've only played one Paper Mario game, sooo....
This is a very close one for me, but I think if I could only have one, I'd take Paper Mario.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
I absolutely loved partners in time (even though no one else seems to aree with me XD ) and I feel that the portable Mario & Luigi series is better for me. Although, when Paper Mario 3DS comes out, give me a ring and maybe I'll change my tune
Why do astronauts backtrack? They forgot the Space Jump Boots.
Mario & Luigi! Superstar Saga is my favorite game of all time. Paper Mario doesn't even come close, in my opinion. I hope to see another entry in the M&L series on the 3DS. EDIT: Just look at my signature.

Paper Mario. The Mario and Luigi games are just too convoluted and silly, imo, which makes me lose interest in the story since it's so ridiculous in every game.
Im surprised to see how even the sides are on this one. But Im glad to see that for the most part, everybody likes both of these series'. I'd have to say that Paper Mario is winning so far. Come on Mario and Luigi fans, speak up!

Mario of Paper for me, the Thousand Year Door saga won me over with its immense charm, adorable locales, and grand melodies. I especially adore the theme of Rogue Port.
Hard to say, each one has it's stinker in the series, and each one has it's ups and downs.
Mario and Luigi is a lot more faithful to the Mainstream Mario games. Examples include both the plumbers being silent, Mario being brave and acticve, Luigi being nervous and lazy. There are no friendly villages of goombas waiting to greet you. You see a goomba, they want to maul you. Instead, of using already existing enemies, Mario & Luigi will create it's own race of villagers. While both battle systems are really interactive, I'd say that the Mario and Luigi games are by far, much more interactive than the ones in Paper Mario. The writing is pretty good, and there are some genuinely funny moments. I get a good laugh every time people make fun of Luigi.
The cons are that it's been doomed to a handheld day 1. I always feel less incentive to play a handheld than I do a console game, I hope the 3DS might change that, and the over worlds in each game have never been particularly fun to traverse. I endure it because the battle system and the story is worth it.
Paper Mario has some really interesting characters in it. While you won't see anything like them in a mainstream Mario game, the friendly monster characters you get as partners are always somehow very appealing, and their dailogue will change depending on who is following you at the time. The games are also usually loaded with extra material that Miyamoto wouldn't even consider putting into mainstream games. There was so much interesting stuff to learn in rogeuport and flipside be it through the use of Goombella or Tippi, or paying for a story in Rogeport's underground. Another thing I enjoy is what I like to call the playable ending. Not only did you get to walk around town for a while after beating the boss, but if you start the game up again after the credits roll and you save your game, you are greeted by somebody who acknowledges that you completed the game, and you can actually see what some of the characters are doing now that the fighting is over. Princess Peach and Bowser actually did some pretty interesting things. Peach didn't feel like a helpless captive with her sneaking around the enemy territory to help Mario any way she could. Bowser shows his more lovable side, unintentionally, while still being a serious threat when he needs to be. Some people may consider this a con, because they hate any villain that isn't super crazy serious business every day, all the time.
However, Mario is very much a quiet avatar for the player, rarely emoting, and when he does, all it is is basically "Nod in agreement" "Shake your head" "Get suprised" and "angry stance" ...also "nazi heil" ( joke. But that's what it reminds me of.) not at all like the Mario and Luigi series. In fact, He's even less expressive in the Paper Mario games than he was in Super Mario RPG... Mario loved Charades in that game.
I think I prefer Mario & Luigi. I hope it gets a chance to be on the Wii U someday, since we got a Paper Mario on the handheld coming.
I don't always give myself signatures, but when I do, you just read it.
I genuinely can't decide. I loved the first Mario and Luigi, and I loved the second Paper Mario. The second Mario and Luigi was kinda bad, and the third is yet to grow on me. The first Paper Mario didn't do much for me, and Super Paper Mario was also kinda bad.
...I can't choose...I think I like Intelligent Systems in general (well, could never get into FE though. )...Bowser's Inside Story is pretty much awesome. I hope Alpha Dream continues on the 3DS. Also hoping that the new Paper Mario will be just as great as TTYD. (and yes, I like SPM....not the best game out of any of them, but still enjoyable)
