Topic: Mixed Messages Won an Award!?

ign.com recently posted their game of the year awards, and this won Best Multiplayer of DS, beating out Spirit Tracks, Modern Warfare Mobilized, Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes and Crystal Chronicles. Guess it was better than I thought it was.

Anyone else surprised by this? I personally refreshed about 3 times to make sure my computer wasn't playing tricks on me.

Actually strangely enough, me and a group of 5 other friends played this today in study hall. We had an absolute blast and tons of laughs. Before we knew it, 80 minutes was gone just like that. Keep in mind our games were over the top explicit and extremely vulgar. I have played some games with the family that are always very clean and PG, not very funny or enjoyable at all. So, if you have a bunch of vulgar friends, this is an extremely entertaining game that I believe, under the right cirrcumstances, deserves this award.

I saw this, and I was very surprised. Surely the DS has better multiplayer games then this, which doesn't even NEED a DS to play, just pen and paper, really.

IGN's Nintendo Team is as adorably bad as ever.

On DSiWare alone, games like Pop Island own it in multiplayer. But that's just my opinion.

Not everyone thinks the game is terrible. But Best Multiplayer on DS for the year? I beg to differ... But yes, I'm thinking of a DSiWare title.

I don't think many people played this in the right context at all.

I've had a lot of use out of it when I've had groups of friends around. It's not a "sit down and play" kind of game so much as a "pass around while doing other things" social time-waster.

And it's utterly brilliant. I can honestly say it's had the most multiplayer use of any DS/ DSi/ DSiWare game I've got. Anyone can join in - gamer or no, and everyone can have a good time with it.

They choose one of the worst DSi games as a winner? That's patethic.

Except they didn't.

They could've given a serious award to the Animal Crossing & Mario calculators or any of the Master of Illusion Express titles. That would've been 100x worse.

Exactly. On sheer play time, Mixed Messages is my #1 most used game for the year in multiplayer. That's anecdotal, but if it was so bad the 30 or 40 names that are in the game wouldn't exist.

Oh, and most of those 30 or 40 names wouldn't have a bar of New Mario Brothers Wii. As good as that game is in multi, it's for gamers. Mixed Messages is for everyone - which is the very definition of a good multiplayer game.

Are you kidding me? That's like the worst game on the service (aside from EP Varvoice and Master of Illusion: Mind Probe according to us here at N-Life)!

I don't necissarily think that it's not a good multiplayer game, but there is one thing that is horrible about it. WHY NOT USE PAPER?! Sorry for caps, but seriously, why would you spend $5 on a game you can play on paper? Also, WaltzElf, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is not just for gamers. In case you didn't notice, Nintendo is always talking about the multiplayer aspect, and they are correct in what they say. It don't take a gamer to run and jump on goombas
