IMO, they should release a more powerful 3ds in a year or two, but don't unlock the memory/resolution for developers for at least a year after the release. This way, they don't cannibalize sales/alienate users but they will be able to move to their next gen handheld seamlessly.

Would I like a higher resolution version? Sure. But at what expense?

Higher resolution would mean they'd have to upgrade the SoC to handle the higher amount of processing to push the extra pixels. That's also assuming the games would support the extra resolution. And the battery would need to be beefed up so battery life doesn't take a hit.

It's really asking for too much. I'd rather they just release an entirely new generation of hardware and games than to release a higher resolution update as suggested.

High resolution is great in some ways, but not so great in others.

The Vita has a very high resolution, but a higher resolution is more taxing on the CPU. This means that there are less resources for high quality textures, lighting effects, and anti-aliasing. Many of the games look good, but they seem to sacrifice polish and detail in order to manage that higher resolution.

Something like Resident Evil: Revelations on 3DS however, seems to benefit from a lower resolution. It has a great amount of detail and polish, making it more visually impressive than any Vita game I've played.

in 3-5 years yes, today no, because I'm all out of money and I wouldn't buy other 3DS before having a WiiU.

goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

I'd rather just have the next generation of handhelds upscale the current 3DS games instead of having another revision of the current gen 3DS.

I personally would not. I have a 3DS XL and it's resolution is fine enough and I'm getting a little miffed at all of these different models of 3DS that Nintendo is releasing. I knew an XL 3DS would eventually hit so I held off on the traditional 3DS and ruled out the 2DS due to the smaller screen, so I'm all set with what I've got. I read a rumor that there may be a 2DS XL in the works as well as a 2DS pocket with a smaller screen than the traditional 2DS, but as of right now it's just a rumor.

2DS pocket is a stupid idea, just think of the tiny screen

Yeah, anything smaller than the actual 3DS/2DS touch screen would make it very hard to play touch games. It is already the smallest touch screen in the whole DS family.

It's not like with the GBA.

Bloop.
