So, a lot of us have recently got their hands a shiny new 3DS, including myself. Now, what I've been wondering is what to do with the old one. Should I keep it, or sell it? It may just be me l, but I've grown quite attached to my special edition Zelda old 3DS XL, but I could really use some money towards games and amiibo. What would you do, or what have you done with your old 3DS?
I gave it to my bro who hasn't done anything with it. I'll probably take it back and hold on to it. I put stickers on it because I loved that thing so the resale value probably went down a bit there, but man I loved my 3DS like my lime green game boy color, my glacier GBA, my red GBA SP, my white DS lite.. without Nintendo handhelds I would've looked up a lot more over the past 20 years. Almost want to keep it for sentiment.
You have a Special Edition Zelda 3DS XL which is pretty cool, I would probably hold onto that because you'd probably regret selling a Limited Edition console down the line. My mate still can't get over selling his Pokemon N64. If you're seriously cash strapped then you might have to bite the bullet, but try your best, a Zelda console definitely goes up in value over time.
I sold my Zelda ALBW 3DS XL for €150,- as I am sure it will eventually only be less valuable with all the limited editions and the not so limited status of many 3DS's.
€150,- is just too much money to hold onto and let devaluate if you ask me.
I'm keeping my original black 3DS just for the day when it's possible to use emulators for the great 2D games (preferrably SNES ones) under the firmware it sports.
It would be great to provide my dad with a system that plays all these classics he bought us back in the day.
Keep it for those awesome old 3DS Memories. I'd never sell or trade in my launch Aqua Blue 3DS, heck. I still use it a lot more than my N3DS XL only because of the sharper smaller screens, better color temperature and secret 6th brightness. When it comes to playing on the go, like at a friends house I will only N3DS XL, but at home as my 'main', it's the original launch model for the reasons I mentioned above.
Had Nintendo released the standard N3DS with it's smaller crisper screens this would be an entirely different story.
Maybe Nintendo should have released a N3DS with a 2cm x 2cm screen just for you...
I sold my 3DS XL (it was just the standard red model) but I still have a 2DS for those out and about sessions as the 2DS is much more sturdy and I don't mind bashing that about as opposed to my New Ambassador model.
This topic brings back sad painful memories. I recently sold my launch day Nintendo DS, the old big fat gray one, because I hadn't played it in a year. And now I miss it. But to answer your question, don't sell it! You may regret it.
I plan on keeping my original cosmo black 3DS. I've had too many good times/memories with it to just let it go.
@Icarus423 I sold my original Xbox and all my games years ago and I still regret it to this day. My new rule is I don't sell any of my video gaming stuff anymore (despite how much I may dislike the game.
@luisesteban Can I use my old 3DS to streetpass with my New 3DS XL???

Yes of course, you just create streetpass on both system using the same cartridge, but each system should have a different save file I think depending on the game!
Systems: Wii U, Wii, New 3DS Ambassador Edition, 2DS
Amiibo Collection: Villager, Rosalina, Zelda, Sheik, Toon Link, Link, Marth, Ike, Robin, Lucina, Pit, Shulk, Fox, Yoshi, Toad, Squid Inkling, Meta Knight, Ganondorf (pre-ordered), Yarn Yoshi (pre-ordered)

Nice! I'd love to be able to Street Pass myself in ACNL in hopes of getting that seemingly elusive gold badge for StreetPassing 1,000 times. Thing is, I don't know how to download new software on my old 3DS now that my NNID has been transferred to my New 3DS XL. (A new (used) cart would probably be the only way to go here....)
Like @WaveBoy I am awaiting the standard n3ds but I agree with others on just keeping it if you want. I gave it some thought to part with my sea green 2ds when that time came but at this point I just...can't. I usually just trade in or sell a few things when newer stuff comes out but I feel the regret others here mention so I may get back some of the stuff I've gotten rid of at some point(even if it isn't the same, heh :l).
And, as mentioned above a million times, I'm enjoying the extra streetpass hits!
I'm going to give my Ice White 3ds to my Aikido Sensei in the hopes that she knows some family with a kid that can use it. I have 4 3ds units right now and since that one isn't limited and I prefer the LL I'm trying to off load it. I got my money's worth out of it anyway.

I can't get my two 3DS' to streetpass each other. But don't u need at least one of the same title on each of the handhelds? I thought they would still give me some Mii Plaza hits and thus give me some puzzle pieces or something....?
It could be that my New3DSXL is messed up atm....because I can definitely say its not acting right. (Parental controls randomly reset itself, had to change date because it will randomly change that, one time I turned on the unit and my 3DS home themes didn't load so I had to set that back up.....and I still can't access the eShop. I haven't mentioned those issues because I realize ppl here are tired of hearing my complaints.)
So......yeah, it could be my new 3ds is actin wonky and that's why I can't streetpass with my old one....?
