In honor of the new Shantae game coming out, I'm running through the first two. I made it about half-way through the first game today. Hopefully tomorrow I can seal the deal and move on to RR.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
Even if each Shantae game takes an eternity to release, I always forget about getting the previous games and playing them. I would like to take them on in chronological order. The only non licensed game of theirs that I have beaten is MSF HD and I liked it a lot. I still pledged for Half Genie Hero, though.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.
Well, it's out. I'm playing through the original Shantae right now, then I'll play Risky's Revenge. Hopefully I'll get these done by the 10th so I can DL Pirate's Curse and hopefully get to it before Half-Genie Hero comes out.

Considering how long Pirate's Curse was in production, and considering also that HGH met a bunch of stretch goals, including one that added multiple playable characters after the Kickstarter was over through Paypal donations, I think you're probably safe if you plan on playing it anytime in the next year or so.

They have yet to announce any delays and they've always held the release date as this month of this year. I fully expect a delay to be announced soon, but I don't think they'd wait until the very last minute to delay it a full year...

I'll be amazed if it even comes out by early-to-mid 2015. Here's hoping you're right, though.

It's 15 hours. it's not like risky's revenge which was like 5 hours to 100% and 2 to speed run.

What is worth $20 in your mind, then? Also, if somebody says it's 15 hours long, they're either lying or rediculously fast. It'll probably be twice that long (8 hours for Shantae GBC my @$$...)
Reviewers rush through games, unless you also rush through like your life depends on it, I wouldn't really say a review is a good judge of length. :/
@arronishere All of those games were full priced when they released over a year ago (Snake Eater was over 2 years old...) except maybe SMTIV? But the latter was a pity price because it took them forever to get it over to Europe...If you're willing to wait for a price drop, that's fine, but I still find your comparisons horribly unfair.
I hate it when people judge a game by it's length. One of my favorite games last year was Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, which is about three hours long. Did I feel scammed at the end of it? Nope, because I thought it was a really fantastic game. Complaining that you're getting at least 8-10 hours of gameplay for $20 is just silly to me. There are a ton of $60 big budget releases that only give you around 10-15 hours of gameplay, so why is it such a big deal?
Just to mention: Risky's Revenge's problem isn't that it's short, it's that doesn't make good use of its time. You have less things to do than in the first game, and the ending makes it feel more like a prologue. You don't get what feels like a full character arc in the story, and in any other game, that part would've simply have been the first half. In Portal, for instance, it's short, but the whole game builds up to a satisfying conclusion, so the time doesn't feel as punctuated as it is.
Another case where I felt like a game could've used more was Final Fantasy XIII-2 - it was 60 hours long, but may as well have been half that considering how little accomplish other than setting up the next game. And it really didn't need more to do, it just needed better endings - not a single ending, even the "true ending" actually involve you accomplishing what you originally set out to do, and it really just makes the experience feel hollow story-wise, especially since the 3rd game didn't feel necessary outside of the single set of cutscenes where you end every character's arcs...

Not sure what you mean. I've played the game at least 3 times completely, and my kid nephew has messed around with it for an hour here or there, and I've only played the game a total of 22 hours. If you allow even 2 hours for the kid playing it, which, in my experience, is wrong, you still end up with 3 playthroughs in 20 hours.
And I've never done a speedrun of it. I always take out the time to collect all of the warp squids and dance for money.

Which one? The new one or the original GBC game? I was meaning that whatever a reviewer says, it's always going to take a lot more time for the average person to complete the game than they say, especially if no guides are used. It took me almost 20 hours just to complete Shantae once, and that was after looking at guides to speed up the collection part. Some stuff is very well hidden...

Sorry, I was responding to the comment about the original Shantae.
I do agree with the gist of your statement, though. Unless you press through a game as fast as possible, you're probably going to spend more time with it than the average reviewer. And if you do, you have no right to complain about the length. I actually like soaking in the game world and seeing all it has to offer.
Something I wouldn't mind (after finishing the game) is some sort of hard mode. This game was lots of fun, but reaaaally easy. Hard mode could maybe increase the damage enemies deal (except for the wolves, they should deal the same damage, and half that in normal/easy mode), and limit your inventory to one of each item at any time. Maybe even double the cost of healing items so they're especially precious.
Also in regards to the previous conversation, after finishing the game 100% in just under 10 hours I still feel like $20 is not a bad price. Everything about it is very high quality and there are tons of enjoyable moments. I often spend more on longer games, but then don't enjoy what is there as much as I did with this one.
