@Bolt_Strike Agreed. It's good to see they finally realised that releasing three or four versions of the same games is a dated concept, but I don't like him talking about ''games as a service''. Release a €20 DLC pack and call it a day, don't go the micro-transactions route.

Although I prefer to buy the third version as a cheaper add on, the Games as a Service idea makes me thing they’ll charge you the postgame, like a Battle Frontier, as DLC.
Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

I would be fine with a updated versions released as extra $20 DLC. Seems worth it and would be a nice evolution from the antiquated third-version. (Or, you know, they could just release a sequel a la B2W2!)

I guess part of me likes the third edition format because it means I can start a new file without buying the exact same game, or deleting my old file (where all those oh so friendly limited-edition-often-untransferable event items are).

I guess you are right about the profile thing.

i would rather them not make a third version at all....i hate dlc unless it's free and that's rarely the case. I really hope they don't go down that route and just do what they did with X & Y (not release a third version at all).

As much as I dislike going into Gamestop, I actually prefer that method to paying.

It would make sense at this point for Pokemon to go down the DLC route slight shudder, but I agree that pay-walled content on-disk would be an instant no.

Multiple save files would be nice, too.

I mean, as it stands you're paying $40 for DLC. So anything they're charging that's less than that would be more consumer friendly than third versions.

XY is definitely worst case scenario though. The base package left so much to be desired that it was just begging for some kind of continuation and ironically it's the only one that doesn't have one.

Gen 6 felt a bit rushed. As if they wanted to get gen 7 out for the 20th anniversary. I don't think this is way they originally planned the game, and it seems that everything they planned around Mr. McGrubbin-green-snake-face was moved over to gen 7 as well.

Moving Zygarde over to Alola was just mean. lol. Kalos getting its big legendary snatched away.

From what I've read, it very well seems that Pokemon Z was in the works at some point. I just think they wanted to get Gen 7 out the door.

So apparently the pokedex entries for the various mega evolutions are several variations of "mega evolution makes its existence miserable".

Mega Evolution was a neat idea until the murdered their own justification.

"It's to make less usable Pokémon viable".

Which is why Charizard and Mewtwo got TWO of them, and Metagross got one. Oh and Rayquaza, Lucario, Aggron, Salamence, Garchomp....

Z-Moves are a much more balanced approach, since they impact every Pokémon in different ways rather than one Pokémon in one specific way, via Z-Attacks and Z-Status moves usable by crystals locked to type rather than species, and exclusive Z-Moves for the unique spin.

Though I do worry that Ultra Necrozma, being an "Ultra Burst" WITH a Z-Move is a bit much...

As for Gen 6...Kalos was dull. I'm sorry. That game was a huge mess. Boring, very poorly paced and forgettable, and for whatever reason a lot of new Pokémon were the rare encounters, because they thought that was smart. XY is an example of a Pokedex being too damn big, at 450 Pokémon. That's a lot of Pokémon in each route and the new ones got outnumbered and buried.

Pokémon Z could've fixed that but didn't. Zygarde got so shafted, the poor thing, and the intent was "blantantly" obvious, but in reality, outside of it's useless original ability existing solely to cancel out the abilities of Xerneas and Yveltal, what relation did Zygarde have to them? None. Honestly the way those 2 legendaries were shoehorned into the plot so suddenly, Zygarde would have been more out of place than them!

And that's before even considering the Cells and Cores thing. Man, they really just threw XY together.

Looking back over S/M you can see areas they are expanding with building sites and tools and materials and obvious hints of "More" that we never got.

Makes you wonder, looking at how this game has every legendary from every generation, and every team leader, if this is what Sun and Moon was meant to be, but couldn't be ready in time for the 20th?

My head cannon is that they just left those areas 'under construction' so they could have an easy pre-established place to shove something new in for the future version.

On a side note, I really enjoyed XY and as an avid Pokemon fan I recall them being something really cool at the time. With their 3D stuff, clothing and the Legendaries (which I loved). It was a nice change for a series that continuously and still does roll in itself.

Does anyone know if the "Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Dual Fan Edition" contains the normal plastic cases of BOTH games AND the one metal case?
I like the metals case but I want to have the ordinary plastic cases as well for collector reasons

judging by what I can find online it does come with the ordinary plastic case and the metal case.

USUM are officially out in some parts of the world, but I'll try to keep spoilers for the rest of the week+end.

Mechanically though, apparently SOS was changed and a pokemon can only call 1 ally per battle (totems work the same however) and the only way for it to call more to chain is via the orbs.

This is actually the 2nd biggest complaint about SM that was fixed (the other being festival plaza being a mistake over gen 6's bottom screen accessibility.) as I can live with 1 encounter but I hated when even without the orbs as long as something is low from false swipe it called for help every time I'd just kill the help.

Box Legends are still shiny locked
Zygarde is still shiny locked
Necroma is still shiny locked
Guzzlord is still shiny locked

Everything else ISN'T including the other UBs and Legendaries.

Also datamining shows that there's no compatibility with pokebank at all, so I guess that will get patched in at a later date. (hopefully) atm the games look coded as if pokebank wasn't a factor for them at all, but we'll see, that was also the case for x/y.
