They aren't the first legends with meh abilities, are they?
Bruh, one has Multiscale, I'm TRIGGERED.
Still, it's not so bad. Their signature moves have built in Mold Breaker. That's a kick in the nuts for Zekrom and Reshiram. Or for most Legends as they can only have one ability, to these having basically two.
But I gotta say my thoughts, one is just a better Metagross. Psychic/Steel is unnecessary for an iconic Legend.

The leaked names were right, but oh man how wrong we all were on those legendary types. How is a sun-based fire-breathing Pokémon not Fire-type?
Like many, including myself, have suspected, Alola consists of more islands than the one seen in previous trailers. At first glance, they all seem to represent a different type of Pokémon habitat. I assume this will work in a manner similar to the coast, mountain and central areas in X and Y. If that is true, it might mean there is a separate Pokédex for each island like they did in those games.
And what's up with Rotom being in that Pokédex? Will this also be a new Rotom forme you can actually use in battle? I'm curious how this will work. It seems they actually use it to give the Pokédex some kind of personality. I can see this being kind of a Navi-esque thing.
Anyway, here is the updated list with Legendary types:
Rowlet - Grass/Flying - Grass starter
Litten - Fire - Fire starter
Popplio - Water - Water starter
Unnamed bird Pokémon - Presumably an early Normal/Flying-type like Pidgey
Unnamed mammal-looking Pokémon - Looks like a Normal-type to me. Briefly spotted in a trailer for the game.
Solgaleo - Psychic/Steel - Legendary Pokémon. Mascot for Sun.
Lunala - Psychic/Ghost - Legendary Pokémon. Mascot for Moon.
Magearna - Steel/Fairy- Mythical Pokémon. Likely distributed through some special event.
@Haru17 Except you can use them online, so long as you aren't in the ranked modes. The PSS equivalent battles allow you to use whatever. Plus there's been plenty of tournaments that have allowed legends.
Yeah, that's the weird thing I noticed about Solgaleo. It's Steel-type, it's ability is Full Metal Body, and its signature move is Sunsteel Strike which is probably a physical Steel-type move (even though it looks Fire).
So even though it's an "emissary to the sun", it really has no attributes related to Fire at all. Makes me wonder if it doesn't learn any Fire-type moves either. People joked that it's Mega Pyroar, but it actually seems all they have in common is being based off lions.
I just find it odd since you would think it would be Fire-type... I can't think of any reason that a Sun Pokemon would be Steel-type. Maybe this is just another one of those cases, like Palkia being Water and Zygarde being Ground.
Yes, you can battle your friends with them. Happy day.
And you can't use them in singleplayer except for the equivalent of hunting racoons with nukes. There's nothing challenging to fight with a legendary after you get them in the story. Not even the battle subways and such allow them.
Skims through posts that resulted from the news explosion.
I seriously forgot more info was dropping today until I checked online earlier. XD I'm equally confused about the types, but Solgaleo's typing makes even less sense. Still, it's my favorite of the two legendaries in terms of design. Unless Moon has a ton of exclusives I'm fond of, I'm still going with Sun as my choice.
I definitely guessed (like many others) that the Alola region had more islands. While I'm excited to explore it, a small part of me groaned inside since I'm not fond of a ton of water routes (the return of Dive may alleviate this for me a bit). Hopefully there's a ferry service and not an overwhelming amount of water types.
The Rotom Pokedex idea is awesome, though as someone mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm getting minor Whisper/Yo-Kai Watch vibes. While I sorta doubt that this Rotom will be used for battling, this sorta confirms that the player can "have" seven Pokemon on them at once. XD
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
I like everything I've seen of this game so far. Of course I'm a Pokemon fan so I'm 'biased' but I had my expectations higher for this game that what I would normally have for Pokemon games (due to their not wanting to reinvent the series too much) and the few main additions that we've seen from these trailers as well as the new Pokemon that I do like means that I am very excited to see more.
@Octane True, I guess it's possible there's hidden deeper meaning to the typing. But my point was more that all of Solgaleo's attributes are steel-themed for some reason, and based on its description I can't figure out any connection. All we know is that it is honored as an emissary of the sun and that it is capable of storing great amounts of energy. So you'd think it'd be Fire-type and be more themed on that right?
Maybe there is a really obscure reference to some mythology or metaphor that could explain it. I'm just curious as to why it's not Fire-type which disappointed me, but either way I like Solgaleo and will stick to getting Sun.
Edit: Now that I think about it, if it stores energy from the sun, maybe it's based on a solar panel. At least that's what I'm going with for now.
Well, if we're going by tryhard rules, then the sun isn't 'a big ball of fire.' Rather, it's a hyper-dense sphere of base elements—metals and gasses—undergoing nuclear fusion, which creates heat.
Curiously, has anybody seen any grass in these trailers yet?
Yes, you can see it around 0:55 in today's trailer, but they've definitely been avoiding showing wild Pokemon encounters. I'm wondering if they've changed something about how wild Pokemon work.
