Curiously, has anybody seen any grass in these trailers yet?
Yes, you can see it around 0:55 in today's trailer, but they've definitely been avoiding showing wild Pokemon encounters. I'm wondering if they've changed something about how wild Pokemon work.
7.0 Update Log

Well, if we're going by tryhard rules, then the sun isn't 'a big ball of fire.' Rather, it's a hyper-dense sphere of base elements—metals and gasses—undergoing nuclear fusion, which creates heat.
I thought of this too, but the sun is only made of about (I wanna say) .5% metals, the rest is made of gases, so I doubt that's the reference, but it's possible. Like @KO-Cub said I think if they were trying to reference the chemical composure of the Sun it would Poison or even Fire type, and Lunala might be Rock for that matter.
Though it is a stretch I think @nf_2 has a point, being that Solgaleo's description mentions storing vast amounts of energy and glowing, not unlike heated metal.
I think every legend from gen 3 up (skipping gen 5) were major things in the pokemon universe's balance. Ho-oh lugia, the dogs and birds, none of them were that special besides strength and legends, but groudon, dialga, etc etc all basically make the earth and keep it in balance, they're not just legends. (I take note of the "most" part)
The sun/moon legends would probably fall around the same importance of gen 2 legends, but we'll have to see. For all we know, the sun legendary might serve as an ozone layer protecting the world from the sun. (Rayquaza is on vacation destroying meteors now)
Well, for many of those legendary Pokemon we know they can do some scary stuff... But we don't really know for sure if their legends are more than just legends.
For example, we know groudon can cause a drought in a small area... But creating and moving whole continents? Not really. Dialga seems to be able to control time in some way... But nothing suggests its presence is actually required for time to work. Etc.
The fact that they're only legendary in their respective home regions also adds some doubt to their status as true "physical deities". There's also the idea that there can exist more than one of each.
*Note: I'm talking about the games. The anime can be as fantastical as it wants to be.
Going back to more organic legendaries that aren't said to be the new origin of the universe/regional gods would be refreshing for sure.
"I AM ARCEUS! CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE AND EVERYTHING IN IT! ALL SHALL TREMBLE BEFORE MY JUDG-" click
"Arceus was caught! Arceus' information was added to the Pokedex! Would you like to give a nickname to Arceus?"
And that is why the legends of the Pokemon world may be just that... legends.
Which is why we need a Pokemon MMO game... Game Freak is getting it wrong. There is only supposed to be a very limited number of legendaries which can be solved in a massive multiplayer game. Death threats and assassins will be sent around but eh... Legendaries have to live up to their names.
I do find it slightly funny that the most recentl addition to the legendary stable (Primal Groudon) seems to out-sun the 'Sunne' Pokemon in almost every way. It's ability is Harsh Sunlight, it's Fire type, and its Fire moves (and ground moves, for that matter) are super effective.
So an Eruption from Primal G would get a STAB boost, a x2 super effective boost AND a sunlight boost against Solgaleo. It appears the 'Sun God' wouldn't stand a change against its continent creating predecessor, simply because it can't take the heat.
@DarthNocturnal That's a good point, plus the potential to get outspend by Chlorophyl users. Still, I can't help feeling Solgaleo is looking a bit trumped in the game of "which Legendary makes the greatest use of the Sun".
But I am with the others in being disappointed Solgaleo isn't Fire-type. And I'm a little disappointed in its name... I'm going with that legendary so I'll get over it, but I really hate that name. For me it's awkward to pronounce. Sole-gale-eeoh? Is that how it's said? Sole-gah-leyo?
Those are really stupid things to be disappointed about. I just don't get how people can care so much about names and typings? They are what they are, it's your fault for making yourself have deviant expectations in the first place. You could have held off and not expected anything, so that you could have an accurately unbiased opinion. Your disappointment is your own fault.
i agree with you. Everyone assumed it was fire but I am actually glad it is not what we expected. I really like that it is steel and psychic. I cant wait until this game comes out. I wonder what new information they will release during E3.
Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
@BlatantlyHeroic Nice job singling out a post I made pages ago. Maybe you care too much what others think and can't let me have an opinion without telling me I'm at fault for not liking it?
The only thing I expected was that Solgaleo would be a Fire type, like many others did. How is that a "deviant expectation"? As for the name, I didn't believe the trademark leaks and had just hoped for something that would roll off the tongue easier.
And for the record, I'm used to the name now, and the typing is fine even though I just don't understand the basis for it. I'm not trying to make a big deal out of this, so chill out maybe?
@FriedSquid But naw, I just gave my thoughts on it. It seems illogical for people to care so much about things like that, when what really matters are things like mechanics and character/creature model quality. A name is a name, and no one uses legendary Pokemon for the most part, so I don't see what the big deal is (not to mention the typing hasn't been used on a useful Pokemon before, so it's a nice addition if you ask me). You may think that was directed at you, but lately a lot of people have been sharing the same opinion and you just happened to be that final tipping point.
Solgaleo not being Fire type makes me wonder if it'll get another form. Like how Groudon becomes a Ground type when it becomes Primal Groudon.
I wondered that as well, and it's the same with Lunala not being a flying type. My money is on them both getting alternate forms some time in the future, though perhaps not in Sun and Moon.
