I also remember there being a very slight frame drop in X/Y on the route with the day care center when you get an egg. That might have been intentional though.

Well, that explains why this game's world is so tiny...it's just the first island. lol

My guesses on the final type combinations of the starters if there are any:
Rowlet: Grass/Flying (get your ice beams ready)
Popplio: Water/Psychic (wild stab in the dark based on the circus vibes)
Litten: Fire/Dark (would give us a fire/water starter stalemate)

Completely agree with @FriedSquid that the overworld looks great, and has definitely come a long way in the short time since last generation. A think a concern for many was that, with Sun and Moon coming so soon, it would look and feel too much like XYORAS.

As for the battles, I don't think there's much they need to do with the look of them...all I hope for is that they make the use of the extra processing power of New 3DS so that we can get smoother battles in 3D. In X and Y it was always a compromise between having a smooth frame rate, or seeing your Pokemon pop out the screen, and I always opted for the latter.

Edit: Just seen people's concerns about the older 3DS models being left in the dust...I imagine they could easily get the battles to run smoothly again without 3D. I don't recall there being any frame-rate drops without 3D in XYORAS, and even if they were, I imagine they were very infrequent and ultimately insignificant in a turn-based game.

@Megumi_Sagano: There's only one or two towns on the island, I thought that was pretty obvious from the beginning. The real question is: How do you travel between the islands? Something like in Hoenn, where you can use a ferry to get you to various places until you obtain Surf?

Buizel

@Octane: Lapras? Maybe this is the Orange Islands game people have been talking about for >15 years? Haha.

Who knows? Maybe we'll get Surf a little earlier than one would expect. Maybe with an island-based structure, the game will become a little less linear.

...is this gonna be another 7.8 from IGN?

@Buizel: Orange Islands was an anime thing, I don't think we will ever see a game based on those islands. But who knows? Maybe they'll give you a Lapras with Surf after the first gym or something. That's a pretty cheap solution, but I wouldn't be surprised seeing how the games got easier with every iteration in that way.

A ferry or other such limited transportation method would be ideal to lead the player through the intended path early on.

It kinda makes sense now though, now that I know that this one is based on Hawaii.

Someone probably thought of this before me.

However...I want to do a play through of this game at some point where the Pokemon I use are Spheal, Sealeo, Walrein, Popplio, 2nd Evolution of Popplio and final evolution of Popplio.

Navy Spheals, anyone?

@Octane: I was being a little tongue-in-cheek with the Orange Islands reference there, I highly doubt it was anywhere on their minds. I don't see how giving you a surfing Pokemon is a particularly cheap solution though...surely giving you more freedom to explore would add challenge to the overworld parts of the game? Who knows.

Did a list of all the new Pokémon back when Black and White where revealed and then again for X and Y, so why not again?

^For some reason the "un-named bird" reminds me of Hawlucha, myabe it's the green wings and round head. I do hope it's pre-evolution for it as Hawlucha is one of my favourites.

@jump: I'm guessing this is the typical 'early bird' and not related to an older Pokémon. Many - including myself - have suspected it's based on a woodpecker.

But I want baby-Hawlucha

@jump: The wings aren't green, they're just selected in the model editor.

@Buizel: If it's a Pokémon like Lapras? It's just that X&Y literally gave you plenty of strong Pokémon during the early parts of your journey. I know it's cool, but it doesn't make the games more challenging. Anyway, it appears that the island has some sort of dock, so presumably we travel by boat between the islands.

@jump: It's actually a woodpecker. The colours match and most importantly, the feet match those of a woodpecker. They have very distinct feet for holding on to tree bark. This Pokémon has the same feet; two fingers pointed forwards and two pointed backwards.

The island makes me think this region might be a bit more realistic as a place inhabited by humans than every other region in the series... You can see some buildings and natural places here and there, but nothing like the traditional miniature towns separated by random routes from the other games.

It looks like it could be a real tiny island where people live

Can't wait to see more of the region.

@Meowpheel: I think the map shown in the trailer is just one part of the game. I guess there will be multiple islands, each with one Pokédex and a distinct environment like the central, mountain and coastal areas in X and Y. That large town alone makes up like 25% of the map, so there will probably be more not shown in this trailer. I can imagine that working very well in a game where the world is based on a set of islands. Add in Surf and a ferry, like in similar places such as Hoenn or the Sevii Islands, and you can keep it diverse and interesting throughout your quest.

I'm actually pretty excited for Pokemon Sun and Moon. The games look great from what we've seen so far of them.

The multiple islands idea sounds neat and has a lot of potential.
