Glad I never stop training but I'm maybe more glad they keep it at 20,000 for NA, you have my deepest sympathy EU. Fingers crossed that others stop playing to lower the competition to reach the spot.

I just have a few pokes left to catch (No items used! Woo!): Blaziken, Heatran, Yveltal, Mewtwo, Milotic, Onix and... uh... Fennekin of all things... and then I'm going training with my Water Killers for the contest. (Ampharos (Lvl 5), Sceptile (Lvl 5) Zapdos (Lvl 2) Raikou (Lvl 1)) I only got the last two recently, so I haven't had much chance to train them. I'm thinking of training on the Milotic stage.
Well, once more into the breach - my 2.5 hours has just run out.

No! If people stop playing they'll probably lower the number next time. We need lots of bad players.
Anyway, I played and scored about 13k. I used many of my coins to catch Zapdos and Railkou for the next time I play.

I have a feeling that the rank numbers are based on average daily check ins leading up to the event. Could be why Europe has a lower number (they possibly have less people checking in) there is no way to confirm this but it could explain a few things.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
One thing I remember for sure, this event got more entries in the 1st day then the last one. There was under 20000 contestants in the first 2-3 days with the Mega Lucario, this one have +75000 (NA) and it haven't been 24 hours yet. I just hope that they are not that good and/or stingy with spending coins.
I fear for the final hour.

I'm not worried about there being more entries at this point. If they did launch this event because the game got 3 million downloads where the last one only had 2 million (some may not be playing anymore) then that means we have more people entering into the game who do not have as many as the higher level pokemon we have and probably missed out on the free complexity to get past stages like mega Mawile while is stage 90. That means they have less resources by time they get to Ampharos at stage 130. Not to mention that they will have to pass Mega Glalie in the mean time. Raikou requires 85 S ranked stages to unlock and even then you would be underpowered to catch him.
I managed to get a score of 12135 with no coin items and a team of Ampharos (6), Zapdos (5), Raiku (5) and Dedenne (6). It would take a new player to level up and focus on those pokemon. At this point I also have about 5.5k coins and it wont take me long to build up 9k before the event is over to use a complexity if I need it.
The more established player will always have the advantage in the f2p world.
10k in Europe is such a joke. I know it's supposed to be adjusted to entry numbers, but still...
Anyway, tried the event about 4 times, once with both items. Got me 125th/60k-something and might be enough to get me through to the end (fingers crossed, I certainly don't want to spend more coins on the event). Almost done S-ranking and catching everything as well, too bad there's no way around spending coins for that.
Still waiting for my Groudon here, I really want my Groudon soon...
