Yeah, I've been using underleveled Pokemon and just replaying Level 37 with my 5 hearts every few hours. I should have enough for one more go at the competition if needed.

My top score is 14,801 using that free Complexity -1 they gave us a while back and a Disrupt Delay (I'm not that good at the timed stages lol)
Currently 2816/145000 (North America)
I'll watch my ranking as the competition continues and if it looks like I'm going to slip out of the top 20k, maybe spend more coins. I just like hoarding my coins/jewels xD
Feels weird, a day ago I was ranked around 4000 and there was over 14000 players. I have to keep a better eye on the rank during the last day just in case.

Is it just me or do Pokemon in later stages like to escape the ball even at decent catch rates? I know 60-70% is only like a 2 in 3 chance, but it actually seems like 2 out of 3 Pokemon with that catch rate will jump out and run instead of the other way around (not to mention those with lower percentages...) Maybe it's bad luck, but I swear it wasn't like this in early stages.
Currently on Mega Gengar and I still refuse to buy anything or use any coins/gems/items that I got. Those are for S-ranking when I'm through the main stages and the EX stages I can do without help. I also hope the competition rankings won't change too much over the next 3 days. I'm currently 3800ish/85000ish which should suffice, I think.

I want to say it's you, but then I remember catching Moltres on my first go (in which I beat the stage) with only 1%. Those odds can be weird at times.
I find that Mega Genger, Mega Glalie, and stage 150 were the 3 stages I need a Disruption delay to beat (and then some to S rank). I think my team was Genger, Mismagius, Gastly, and Haunter.

It took me five tries to catch Stunfisk, and I never had a catch rate below 60%.
As much as we want to think we're special, we're not. The catch rates have randomness to them. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
And yeah, I've only been playing Meowth's level with my five hearts, and I'm managing 6k+ coins a day. Not too shabby. I used them for powerups on some of the last expert levels, and now I only need to get an S ranking in every level so I can have access to the 20th and last Expert Pokemon. Grinding time.
So it's plain old RNG-Goodness... or Badness or whatever.
Mega-Gengar is a pain. Especially since, unlike Mega-Glalie, I often whittle him down to 5-10% of his HP, but then that's it. No more moves.
Good thing you can only play for such a short time, kind of keeps the frustration at bay.

I've been spending my time grinding exp on Meinfoo(?) instead of grinding coins, does anyone know if there's a level cap on the pokemon? Lvl 100 would seem a bit ridiculous!
130 is a good profit, but the optimal would be 330 coins per try.
You know right after I posted that I booted up Shuffle and got 330 for all 5 of my hearts... Now I have enough for the two items in the chalenge, just wish I had better pokemon. I am thinking of waiting until the 22nd to try it. We will see lol
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
Take powerful, but not super effective Pokemon. Immediately try to move coins so that you wind up with the initial three in the column all the way to the right. Try to get two together, space, then another coin. That way when the 4th coin comes a few turns in, you can make a 4 in a row and net 300 coins.
Once you've done it a few times it becomes fairly easy to work out. 9 out of 10 times I get 300 or 500 coins. That 10th is usually because some combo landed and made me beat the level too quickly.
