Okay, so I just recently got the new release of Omega Ruby last night, played for about ten minutes, then went to sleep because it was late. I woke up the next morning and began to get really invested in the game. I had been playing for about thirty minutes, and was leveling up the new Poochyena I had just caught, when I encountered something strange. The strange thing being, a shiny Poovhyena. I was very confused, because I had not been able to catch a shiny pokemon in X through breeding or chaining, and yet I caught this after 4 battles, in which I was not even trying for a shiny pokemon. Is it just luck or something?

Luck. Shinies are all about luck.

There's a 1/4096 chance of encountering a random shiny in the wild like that.

You are extremely lucky!

Was this bychance from sneeking up on it or just regularly walking in the grass?

I was walking around in the grass. Though I had just caught a normal Poochyena by sneaking up on it before encountering the shiny.

Hmm, for sure you got lucky, i'm 20+ hrs in and not seen any yet, and I thought the chance was 1/8100ish, but could be wrong one of the pokemon directors confirmed it at that a long long time ago.

I was on the route before Mauville City and saw a coloured Pokemon sticking out of the grass. Does that mean it's a shiny? I couldn't catch it because there was a trainer between me and it.
