Everyone wants to know what 3d will be like. Why not run an ad before a 3D movie in theaters so if you are wearing glasses, you can see it in action. Not glorified or anything. Just a simple commercial showing what it WILL look like. Plus, you already have your 3D audience in the crowd. It would be perfect marketing.
it'd probably be the closest the public could get to a 3ds aside from an in-store kiosk, but Nintendo really pushed the 'no-glasses' thing vs. Sony... i don't think they'd want to have to use glasses in order to advertise the system.
whatever they decide to do, advertising is going to be tricky for them.

sure they can, they'll just have to illustrate the 3D in the commercials, and then maybe invite people down to their local (blah-blah-blah) stores to try them out.

@tbd - this is exactly what makes me nervous about this next generation....The DS worked because people saw the system design and what it was capable of and went "hell yeah this thing wrecks"--then once the install base hit a certain level, people started seeing their friends (or in a lot of cases, parents saw other people's kids) using them and said "you know what--time to buy one of those."
Without that initial advertising push to get enough consoles into enough hands so that the peer-to-peer marketing can run its course, I dunno how it's gonna take off like the DS did. The fact that it looks a lot like the DS and keeps similar nomenclature will help....but still, I don't know many/any people in real life with DSi systems or DSi-XL systems--in fact, most of the people that became interested in DS systems lately have bought DS-lites--and you'd think that would work similarly. They're gonna need a seriously awesome initial software push (like the DS didn't have...at all...which is why it sucked copiously until Castlevania finally came out).
I guess we'll see how it plays out...and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna buy a first-run (as those are the only Nintendo consoles that don't fall apart in a year ), but I dunno if the rest of the world is gonna follow suit.

Nintendo doesn't need to advertise at a theater plus its against what there telling fans, remember no glasses and the theater has glasses. The Theater would think of the 3DS as a insult and a slap in your face thing because they want people to come see there movies in a theater where they can make money around the clock and your sitting with cheesey glasses on while you could be watching a movie on the 3DS without paying for a titcket.
If Nintendo were to advertise it would be better to advertise on Cartoon Network, Disney channel, Disney XD, ABC Family, TNT, SYFY, and Nickoloden and also mags, all these channels and magazines would be great for advertising to children, teens, young adults and adults. When the DSi was released in 08 there were lots of adds on cartoon network for the Nintendo DSi.
Also Nintendo relies on fans to tell there friends and then it keeps spreading. Were in a age were young people text so thats kind of like advertising for Nintendo.

So many Awesome video games coming out this year! So many games so little money! Crap!
I can imagine the ad totally ratting on the 3D glasses the audience is wearing. It say something like "Take your glasses off. Feel better? But look at the screen. Is there any 3D effect. Nope. With the Nintendo 3DS you would still have the 3D effect without those stupid goggles. You may point your glasses back on. Now enjoy this motion picture with those clunky, uncomfortable glasses. And you look dumb wearing those things, too." Yeah something like that.

Brilliant! Run an ad campaign for a glasses-less 3D game console that forces you too use the glasses in order to see the ads! GENIUS!!!

Nintendo would make a lot of enemies that way, and I bet most theaters would refuse to run that commercial because it insults their business.

That's like saying that the Theaters hate DVDs because you can watch movies on them instead of at the theater. Remember, a Theatrical Movie always hits theaters before it is released on other forms of media, like DVD and including the 3DS. The reason people go out to see movies is because they want to see it on the huge screen, in a dark room with sound booming all around them. I'm sure many people will still go see 3D movies even if they have a 3DS. Oh, and only one person can comfortably watch the 3DS at a time (and still see the 3D, since you have to view the screen straight on to see in 3D), so in the theaters you can experience a 3D movie with your friends and family (or you can buy a 3DTV and waste your money on buying the expensive glasses).
I'm pretty okay.

lol, there's no way the 3DS will ever replace the movie theater.

Admit it that it was still funny, would love to see that in the theaters. xD

Well, I think that it's fine for Nintendo to advertise the Nintendo 3DS in theaters, it won't the movie companies as they are already in deals with Nintendo to feature their movies in 3D on the Nintendo 3DS.
