Well I feel a little silly... I used up a free play today on the ALBW painting-style icons for the 3DS software icons, like the eShop for example. For some reason I thought I could replace the icons with these on my home menu, but I guess they're just normal stickers like the rest... Kinda disappointing cause those painting icons would match the ALBW theme it gave me yesterday.

Actually they do open the app, it just doesn't replace the eShop app, so I just moved it to a folder that I keep my extra stuff in lol

As far as I know, those special badges can be used to launch those apps.

Oh, you're right! Ok, now I feel even sillier cause I didn't even try just tapping on them. Still, I wish they would just directly replace the old icons so I don't have to find somewhere to hide them in my menu. @DefHalan Agreed.

I wonder why the Copyright has 2014-15 instead of 15-16. Also it's dreadfully slow to start up the app on my system. "Reading data..." takes a while.

I wish there was a way to "sell" duplicate badges for extra plays or something. Maybe 10 badges for 5 free plays or something. Sometimes I am trying to get a set and have to re-collect some badges just to get the one I couldn't last time. This would give those duplicate badges value to someone that only wants to collect 1 of each (like myself) and more free plays are always good lol

Because it came out in Japan last year.

Man, I hope Nintendo can keep things on about this level as they continue on the free-to-play (or "free-to-start") road. Like Steel Diver: Sub Wars and Rusty's Real Deal Baseball before it, Badge Arcade is pretty classy as those things go — I play for a few minutes each day, and between the free plays and training mode, I've already got 35 badges. I've dropped $1 each time some badges really struck me (Splatoon and retro Game Boy). I'm okay with this.

I actually think it could be better. You're forced to use any free tries instantly after you got them (you can't acummulate them) and the bunny tries to sell you more tries immediately after that, every single time.

It could be a bit more user friendly.

@Morpheel, those things haven't bothered me personally, though I would of course prefer to be able to accumulate plays. I tell you, though, in terms of user-friendliness, I feel like the logging in/buying/saving process could be better. The game takes a good while to get going (even on a New 3DS), and it's fairly clunky when you do decide to drop some cash.

Just been using free plays, and I've gathered quite a few badges.

Super Mario Bros set:

  • Jumping Super Mario
  • Goomba
  • Green Koopa Troopa (underground)
  • Super Mushroom
  • Starman
  • Coin
  • 5 Coins (underground)
  • 3 Ground Tiles
  • Brick (underground)

Mario & Friends set:

  • 2 1-Up Mushrooms

Pixel Collection set:

  • Game Boy
  • 2 SNES Controllers
  • 2 SNES Cartridges

I've set up a scene using most of the Super Mario Bros set badges I have, while I'm using the others to randomly decorate my folders (though the Game Boy badge is on the appropriate folder).

For some reason I have lots of luck getting tries and badges on my 2DS, but on my main N3DS... Not so much

No free plays since launch.

And I'm not going to pay real money for the "chance" of winning virtual badges. That's as bad as gambling IMO (or at least as bad as buying a lottery ticket). I'd rather be able to pay a one-off fee for unlimited plays (whatever that may be). All this F2P crap is getting ridiculously out of hand.

If you've been playing the practice catcher every day, you should've earned a few free plays.

@RR529: Wow, how did you get that many with free plays only?
And what is it with the special themes? Just went to the design shop and there was nothing on there.
Are they only in the US so far or how come? And how long do these specials last? Only one day?
How many tries do you have to buy for them?

Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.

I've been getting a free play every day from the 'boss,' and that's not including the ones I get from the practice machine. I thought everyone who logged in got those free plays too?

Anyway, I have a whole bunch of badges now from those free plays. I managed to snatch the new Bowser and Chain Chomp ones today too, along with a whole bunch I didn't want 'cause they were all knocked into the hole. Wooo. They're far better than real crane games, that's for sure.

You don't? Attempting to get a badge I want often knocks a whole bunch of others into the hole as well. Just with one free play, if you use the crane right, you could potentially get the entire set from a machine. I've done that twice so far. I haven't paid money yet, but with just free plays, I have gotten 41 badges so far. I'm waiting for Star Fox badges to come out before I start spending some money, although at this rate it's going to be a while.

I've only spent one dollar so far, and with that, I luckily got the entire set with the Squid Sisters. I'm happy with my home screen now!

Managed to get all the items in the first Super Mario level with the 5 free turns you get. It's a pretty neat game[?]. I could see myself returning to that crane game every day.

Got 3 free plays today (one from the "Boss", and 2 earned in the practice machine).

With those I got a Goomba Shoe (w/Goomba), Chain Chomp (comes in 5 seperate pieces!), and another Goomba.

I think the free plays you get from the "boss" may relate to how you answer the little quiz the rabbit gives you everyday. The only one I didn't know was the name of that Splatoon gatling gun, and that's also the only day I didn't get a free play from the "boss".
