Topic: New VC games in Japan

Us catching up with Japan? Haha, that's never happened and sadly never will.
Japan will always be 20(+) games ahead...

Well, the fact that Europe got Wario land only 3 months after it released in Japan compared to the 3+ Months it's taking for Kirby's dreamland 2, they are kinda catching up to Japan. And not to mention we got Maru's Mission about 2 weeks after the Japan release (Though it was a bad game anyway, plus the Japanese version had better music.)

Of course there are going to be certain exceptions, but look at the big picture and how many other games besides those were released. You cant really say we're catching up with them on their VC just because a game they got came to us soon afterwards; look at all the others they got that havent made it here. It's not unexpected - but it'd be nice if Nintendo at least tried to make the amount of games even in all regions.

Kirby Super Stacker (カービィのきらきらきっず) is coming next week to the Japanese VC.

I've played that. Its quite fun.

Now I don't know if I should worry that Nintendo will start running out of good titles for the 3DS VC... Japan is getting all sorts of fantastic titles all at once! I just hope they take a little break from the Game boy and go the the GG or GBC after KSS comes out.

Hmm, maybe you've got a point. They've still got more Rockman, Castlevania, Squaresoft games, and others yet to come out here. I'm actually waiting for Game Boy Wars to start coming out.

What do you mean by "game boy wars?" Is that a obscure title like Catrap? Or is it one of those Japan-only titles? Either way, I just hope you guys get Game boy gallery 3 so we can get it over here shortly after.

They're Japan-only Game boy games in the same series as Advance wars.

Haha, you answered the question so I didn't have to. Yes, they are the games in the same series as Famicom Wars and Advance Wars. We got Famicom Wars on the Wii VC, so I'm hoping we get the Game Boy Wars games too. If you want there's videos on youtube of the games.

Haha. Yeah, the series wasn't called Advance Wars until the Game Boy Advance.

I immediately notice the GB Wars is hex-based rather than tile based.
I wonder how else it is different?
(Hudson Soft made them, rather than Intelligent Systems who made the rest of the series. Well, Hudson also made the canceled 64 Wars as well.)
Through the GBA, the series was named after console, until it seems Nintendo decided to stick with the Famicom Wars name in Japan and Advance/Batallion Wars in the west.

Actually, the series as it was in Japan was always just names after the system it was appearing in. When it was on the Famicom, it was Famicom Wars. When it was on the Game Boy, it was Game Boy Wars, and it became Advance Wars for the Game Boy Advance. For the DS, is was known as Famicom Wars DS. The series just changes its name depending on where it is shown, but mostly it is known as Famicom Wars. Its mostly known as Advance Wars in the west because that's where it first appeared there.

Oh, and BTW, the next game here in Japan to be released is another Game Boy Color game. Its called コトバトル－天外の守人－(Koto Batoru - Tengai no Moribito). Koto Batoru, or "Word Battle" as I guess it could be translated, is a card-style role-playing game based on Kanji, and that, coupled with the fact that it was a Japanese-exclusive title, means it will be this time around too.

Oh, and sorry to double post, but Intelligent systems and Nintendo did produce the first Game Boy Wars game, while Hudson made the sequels.

It seemed like kotobattle was developed by Alphadream, who I think helped with the Mario and Luigi Series, which is a cool little fact. Maybe this RPG helped them with M&L 2 years later?

The name looks a portmanteau of "kotoba" (word) and battle. And indeed it looks like you'd need to be pretty proficient in Japanese to be able to enjoy it.
