Super Mario 3D Land had online. It was for the ever exciting passive sharing of those Toad house-like levels, forgot what they were called.
I'd like to see online play, but it seems doubtful, especially considering the description above this post (though that is a cool feature if you have a local 3DS buddy).
I really hope Wario is in this game in some way, shape, or form. Since Bowser is going to be the villain once again, that knocks Wario from the possible post. He could still be a playable character or just a story character who may be behind the coin extravanganza. I would be surprised if he's not in the game at all, since this game just screams Wario.
Me too! This game needs to have Wario. Wario's obsessed with gold! It would be cool for there to be an actual story besides "Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach...again" Somehow though, I know that Nintendo won't take the opportunity to make this game even more awesome.
I can't even tell the difference between 2D and 3D lol did Nintendo even try with the 3D effect
most 3DS games are left eye dominant, so if you close your right eye and then open it you can see what objects are on what different planes. mario and every object in the levels are placed on the same plane while the backgrounds are slightly further back and the HUD is slightly farther forward. it looks weak because there are just 3 levels, HUD, mario/level, then backdrop.
it'd be cool if they put some objects closer to the camera to get a better 3D effect, like the snowflakes and sparkles in the video, but they don't. they're all kept at the same mid-depth as mario and the level, maybe with a few in the backdrop level. you get the sense that they're really trying to keep the 3D effect from being distracting, to the point where it's not even worth bothering.
So no online multiplayer after all. Can't say I'm surprised. Did they actually say what the game is using Nintendo Network for and I missed it, or are we suppose to assume it's just for DLC? As of now I'm not getting this game.
@Retro
Because of lack of online?
In a Mario game?
How can anyone consider something like that a deal breaker?
Whatever. Everyone is free to their opinion. Enjoy...not enjoying this game? Or enjoy not not enjoying this game.
Does anyone else notice that the music is EXACTLY the same as New Super Mario Bros. Wii? Seriously Nintendo. I was just now getting excited for this game, but now I notice that both the main theme and desert overworld are the same. Does this mean the whole soundtrack is just copied and pasted from the Wii game? I don't know. Call me weird, but I look forward to new music whenever a new Nintendo game comes out, because they all have a high standard. Guess this game isn't so "New" after all.

Look what you've done now.
No. Because it looks like NSMB just with a lot more coins. Coin rush and exchange you record via Streetpass. Big deal. It just doesn't interest me. I'd rather save the money.
Completely agree with your feelings on online, Waveboy. It just can't match playing with your friends in the same room. I guess voice chat slightly fixes that. Really wish Nintendo would actually use that dang built in mic. Still, no online is never a deal breaker for me if the single player is actually fun.
This might be the first Mario platformer, 2D or 3D, in the history of the entire franchise that I won't be picking up. So totally recycled and copied-and-pasted. Hearing that exact same NSMBW music at the 3DS conference and seeing that World 2 is, for the third time now, a desert kind of sealed the game's already dangling fate in my eyes as a half-cooked also-ran of a game. I predict that this will be the first ever Mario game to get mediocre reviews.
So, what do you guys and gals think and/or hope will be the reward for reaching (Dr. Evil) ONE MEEELION coins? I'm hoping for an old game unlock. I'd say it could be SMB 3, but Nintendo would lose out on future SMB 3 3DS VC sales that way. Old arcade Mario Bros.? All right, your turn.
@GreenDream
On a side note, love your signature. So true! I talk with my cats and dogs all the time!
This game doesn't attract me in any kind of way. Mario is going for the gold? He is already doing that on the Olympic Games in London (well, that game isn't really a lot better). But the idea to collect as many coins as you can feels more like Wario. Oh, and the lives? Overkill.
But that's not it, it's just that this game doesn't appeal me, even though there is Mario on it. Besides, 2 new New Super Mario Bros titles with only little space between... Yep, there is the overkill again.
Don't get me wrong, it might be a nice game to play, bit it just doesn't do a lot to me.
Changed name: Old name was JDT! Ponies will take over the world. Just deal with it. 3DS FC: 1375-7189-4496
I think the aspect of collecting a million coins might prove more interesting than some of you think (yes, there are a lot of coins in the game, but a million is a BIG number).
Also, it looks more difficult than the DS NSMB at least (I've noticed a lot more moving/tilting platforms than usual).
To end my post. Come on, it has freakin' Renzor!
