I did not even think about that! XD
For some reason, I was thinking about just Giant lightsabers.
So...would the weapons there be made from robot parts and have the ability to form Voltron when combined with other weapons?
(At this point, I'm not even joking, just being stupid)
It's probably X because the game involves stuff from the generations of monster hunter.
An in-universe crossover.
That makes sense. What's the top image's town from, though? I never played anything before Freedom Unite...
The top one in the diamond array on the site? That's the new town, airships, mountains, sheep and all.
I was hoping that was new. Looking forward to it, especially if it looks prettier on the N3DS (which I still don't have...but I might get once I know more details about the NX next year).
Kind of an aside here, is Capcom the best in the industry when it comes to combat systems?
Street Fighter is arguably the most deep, nuanced, and polished 2D fighter series on the market.
Resident Evil 6, while being a pretty bad Resident Evil game, had incredible TPS mechanics and a godly melee system.
Lots have tried, none have succeeded in doing giant bosses as well as Monster Hunter.
Devil May Cry 4 is probably still the most technical and deep skill-based action game ever made.
Dragon's Dogma lets you interact with enemies in ways I've never seen a game in its genre do before.
Even Asura's Wrath managed to make QTEs kind of fun.
Yes. It's not even a question. Hell, they were (as in, up until 3 or so years ago) one of the best in level designs, too, which generally means they had the best action games going. (excluding their Dynasty Warriors rip-offs)

I think 3D Zelda singlehandedly hands Nintendo the level design trophy, not to mention 3D Mario, Metroid Prime, and Paper Mario.
But, yeah, Capcom is pretty stellar when it comes to fighting mechanics. The only genre they haven't done much with is first person games, FPS mainly. But FPS is a crap genre where you point at things across the map and they die, so who cares? It's loads harder to make a good melee action game, just ask almost any western dev if they have good, complex AAA melee combat that isn't the Batman / AC auto-targeting style.
And Monster Hunter really is something else. I've not seen a deeper combat system in anything, and now that they're adding 4 different permutations on each weapon... There's so much damn diversity in that, especially when you consider how many monsters there are that will be brought back.

Yeah...its awesome. I barely notice that though. In my mind, it's beat the living hell out of the monster, dodge or block, use items as necessary, exploit weakness if it's possible.
PS: is there underwater combat? Also, will the bear like beasts come back?
On a different topic! I know this sounds corny to most of you, but I hope that the music intensifies when a monster rage.
So according to Famitsu and this video's translation of it the 4 hunting styles are:
-Aerial attacks & air dodges
-Classic (same moves from previous games and a flat buff)
-Super-duper attacks (it buffs the new super attacks, perhaps shortens cooldown times?)
-The last one is still a bit of a mystery, but it does correspond with the dual blades' leaping through the Rathalos fire and striking in the trailer. It is apparently more technical and let's you turn 'risky situations to your advantage,' so perhaps it's something to do with I frames or countering.
The super attacks are new, somewhat independent of the styles (though obviously modified by the third one.) You can apparently choose between a number of moves for each weapon.
Just look at that SICK tail-biting concept art XD.
So Capcom showed a demo for MH Cross, which looks pretty dope (the talk show masks notwithstanding.)
Apparently the aerial style adds a jump (looks like the flippy night elf one in WoW), presumably mapped to one of the face buttons. It can be used both before and after your weapons is drawn.
The front flip move itself is rather modest, not going too high as well as consuming stamina, but you can do aerial attacks during it. However, if you attack during it you seem to get an extra height boost, much greater than the original jump, as well as another chance to do aerial attacks. So far, we've seen this move with the sword & shield, great sword, and light bow gun.
The last thing they showed were a few of the super moves. You can watch the video to see them all, the main thing is that they work like the LS's spirit gauge; building up energy by dealing damage and expending that to use a super.
The developers say they are tweaking the guns a bit to the point players will actually want to use them?
I just hope that the gunner weapons will be more easy to use effectively without absolutely having to have a specific skill or advance techniques or whatever.
Yeah, the best things about Monster Hunter are positional combat, diverse attack options, and physical feedback, which the bowguns seem to lack much of the time. I hope they get new moves to liven up their playstyle, besides just the new supers. The aerial style with LBG looks really fun.
The aerials in particular are great now that you can do multiple attacks for weapons like the dual blades. It never made sense how switch axe & great sword got the same number of attacks as sword & shiled & the dual blades with such a large damage disparity, even with the special launch moves for the dual blades.
I think I'm probably going to main either the aerial or technical styles.
And, damn, that long sword is lookin' reaaal smooth.
Got to agree LS is looking so good in MHX, will definitely be maining it again.
How should I put it...? The long sword is my comfort food weapon. I put so much time into it in 3U and 4U after starting with the switch axe in Tri that I keep telling myself to try the various lances and bowguns more often... then I pick my long sword back up and start cutting some fools. I feel guilty for not giving other stabbing implements more of a chance.
